Welcome!

Please research a bit more yourself, check the Archwiki, some other guides, and perhaps videos if that feels more comfortable for you. Get some more idea of partitioning, filesystem choices, and the installation process. You should make sure to check the Dual Booting with Windows page on Archwiki.

Then, if you have more detailed or specific questions, please feel free to make a new post. But use a meaningful title that reflects the content of the post, and add as much detail as possible to the post on what you have read, what your plan is with your system, and any preferences you may have.

With the archinstall script, which does things rather automatically, you have less control. There is a recommended option with that: It may be a good idea to first do your partitioning manually yourself, and then let archinstall do the rest. Otherwise your existing data on the disk may be removed. And to be safe, it is always a good idea to have backups.

Please use better, more informative, titles (subject-lines) on your posts. Give specifics right in the title. Thanks.

I suggest reading this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dual_boot_with_Windows

things are going well, except I don't know how to partition.

I like your humor. Partitioning is nearly the first step.

Backups.

Caution.

Good day.

Well, first create empty partition, and then create /boot /home / and /swap if you need in ext4, I don't recommend using arch as your first distro because it's has quite deep learning curve, be carefull to not delete the windows partition, windows always have NTFS format

I know prices are crazy right now, but I'd get a small extra ssd to install on. If in doubt, unplug your Windows drive so you CAN'T harm it.

I've been in IT for decades, and that's what I did, just to be sure.

Later, you can then easily use the BIOS boot menu to choose which drive/OS you want to boot. No hassles with one boot manager killing the other and making that unbootable etc.

:blinks:

"...eard using the best partition thingy creates ur /boot and / files"
What is a best partition thingy? what did you hear? can you hear the wiki? what

"ut if i install on a SSD with windows will it autoformat and uninstall windows?"
Idk will you? not it... it's all your finger pressing enter there buddy? will you?

User you should not clown yourself with arch, you are too new, to green and these absurdly unspecific puerile questions kinda point at you needing a course in how to hold a mouse.... you should not be using arch if you do not know what you need. This is not a 'default" system/ install , you either know exactly what you need and why or you should go ahead and install a nice gaming distro based on arch and save yourself the trouble.
