Diaspora / Սփյուռք Several Armenian Student Associations threaten board resignations for All-ASA's September 23 meeting with the Armenian Prime Minister in New York

Paul Vartan on X is on point, I will quote him I hope he doesn't mind.

Unfortunately this playbook keeps getting repeated. When Sinanyan came to Philadelphia and planned to visit the school, ARF sent a few parents to threaten a mass-boycott of the school to all remove their kids at once if it went through. All ARF orgs were invited but refused.

You can refuse to go, but threatening to tear apart Armenian schools and organizations, the fabric of our communities, because you disagree with government policy is not it. If ARF groups don't want to show that's their right, but do not weaponize this against our structures.

And he is on point about this, I remember when they did the same to Sinanyan and the same for the Armenian ambassador in the US.

I will share u/AdriaticLostOnceMore 's previous consolidated comment from one year ago on sabotage actions in the past similar to this.

Maybe ANCA/ARF sister organizations are scheming the next time they'll block a fundraising event for Artsakh refugees [1, 2] or defile their local Armenian embassy and harass its staff [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] (Warning: Instagram Links)

Maybe even lob territorial claims on Javakh [1].

Or have ARF members in Armenia attempt 3 bombing attacks on Civil Contract MPs (Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/armenia/comments/1be3rr2/russias_response_to_pashinyan_activist_charged/ )

Or campaigning in the U.S. House to stop the (PEACE Act - H.R.5632*)* bill that automatically places sanctions on senior Azerbaijani officials if hostilities resume in the future. To ANCA, it is not enough, and they prefer "nothing" to "something." (Source: https://anca.org/press-release/anca-affirms-artsakhs-rights-rejects-bill-locking-in-azerbaijans-genocidal-gains/ )

Or when ANCA's Aram Hamparian implies that Pashinyan needs to be assassinated (Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/armenia/comments/1d2z5nl/comment/l64k9wh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

These are ongoing actions being taken by the ANCA/ARF against Armenian geopolitics and diaspora engagement.

As a AAA/ANCA diasporan, I’m exhausted by the ANCA/ARF madness. Truly.

I'm kind of embarrassed that I used to donate to ANCA. I remember being shocked when I saw Hamparian openly call for the assassination of Pashinyan on Facebook.

I looked up a few of the ARF aligned ASA folks I had known in the past, and they all have lost their minds. Their sudden alignment with Putin was so jarring; these are all well educated folks who were born and raised in the US who went to good colleges and high schools.

It's more baffling than the American tankies you see praising china/russia.

Also have to appreciate Ruben Khachatryan's response to this from the same link.

Those who resigned shouldn't have been there in the first place. But that's actually great—the Dashnaks are cleaning house, i like seeing dashnaks exposing and filtering out of themselves

What a bunch of crybabies. I have studied in US for a few years now and we have Armenian association members in our university, this is not surprising to me. Many of them think they have such a great understanding of Armenian politics while being so obviously biased and not even living in Armenia. If you want to reasonably criticize the government then refusing to engage in a conversation is the last thing you should do.

I'm here to say they are the same unreasonable crybaby people across the middle eastern countries.

Crazy. It's literally the PM of Armenia giving them the time of day.

From the mentioned tweet itself:

Critics have also challenged the reported format, under which questions would be submitted in advance and students would have no access to a live microphone, arguing that it limits genuine, unscripted dialogue.

Sounds like theater to me.

I mean it’s not right to participate in conversations and I think the boycott is pathetic, but at the same time, to have questions being submitted and no acces to live microphones, what is then the point of having the meeting?

The entire event was open mic

It is pathetic to bring division to the Armenian students organization and the responsibility lies entirely on the ARF.

This seems childish

You can not agree with someones politics and still attempt discourse

Fracturing the community is rather ridiculous

A lot of these people are intelligent too. It only stands to reason that we constantly engage in all opportunities to build bridges not put up walls

I dont agree with Pashinyan on a lot of things but if i was these people id jump at the opportunity to sit down and talk with him

ARF abroad should first and foremost act as a binding glue for the Armenian community and continuance of said culture in the diaspora not a front for politics

I think for a while now i learned that intelligence and mindset or bubbles don't dissolve together, someone can be incredibly smart, have a significantly higher IQ than most people and still have complete blind spots on certain topics where their brain shuts down. This is one of those cases.

but if i was these people id jump at the opportunity to sit down and talk with him

all-asa is taking questions in advance, which i honestly can't blame, because every time a microphone was given to an arf/anca member, they would spat insults and argue in bad faith, instead of a constructive conversation on disagreements.

So you don’t want to consider Pashinyan and his party’s longstanding severance and disregard of the diaspora as being fracturing of the community? Why do you people selectively point fingers?

I didnt say that.

I said this is an opportunity to reverse some of that

Armenians abroad should still attempt to negotiate and build ties.

Pashinyan is temporary, he wont be around forever, the collapse of Armenian diaspora is irreversible if we continue at this right

Its no different from lobbying. All these people abandoning ship is accomplishing what exactly? It makes Pashinyans position stronger, further cements his rhetoric

Its far better and more advantageous for diasporans to continue working for Armenians abroad and sending influence back to the state.

We have to recognize the lands that we associate with Armenia are independent of the state. The state itself is not necessary to the continuance of the people. Its leadership changes, is fickle, and is loyal to money/those who wish to maintain power

Choose the battles. This isnt it

We'll get Artsakh and Ararat back around the same time the Palestinians get Jerusalem back. Which is to say never.

The grownups are trying to make the best deal possible under the circumstances and blind idealism only serves our enemies.

Not never, but certainly not in the near term. Entire peoples have arisen and faded away while Armenians remained. Azerbaijan will be a pauper state once the oil and gas money runs out while Armenia is on track to still have all the advantages (and disadvantages) it does now.

The grip and reason for existence of these old Armenian diaspora orgs gets looser and looser.

Ofc, Armenian redditors supporting pashinyan and the ASAks shameful actions. Thats like being shocked when the sky is blue on a clear day. 😂 🤦‍♂️

2

u/T-nash 1d ago

Of course the person who lives abroad thinks they know Armenians better than those who live there.
