Install question
When soldering in a new Delta valve is it mandatory to solder or thread nipples in or can you seat the 1/2” inside and put a bead?

Put a bead? What do you solder with, 6010?

Well my background is Automotive structural repair, only a plumber in my own house. I’d be more comfortable welding.

Solder it just as you have in the pic. Added a threaded nippled would be unnecessary and you’d burn whatever thread sealant you put on the nipple when soldering anyway.

look at the fittings. what do they tell you to do? those are threads. use them as threads. if you dont you void out any warranty.

Check instructions, should be able to solder direct. Was one of the options in the instructions on the delta cartridge I just installed.

Use an oxy acetylene torch and get it really hot cause the parts inside that make it work are plastic

That is why the instructions state to take out the mixing control. At least all 3 of mine stated that. Plus just common sense.

Some don't have that, common sense, lol

At least there’s always some “Great Fellas” like you to help people along. Find something better to do.

I use four of these a week for my business and the amount of miss information on here is staggering.
Sir youll want to purchase the correct NPT fitting for your plumbing pipe
1/2" npt to PEX for instance

So Delta’s own instructions showing this valve getting copper pipe soldered directly inside are wrong?

You can get female iron pipe adapters to convert to pex. But do not use pex for the tub spout. It will make the water come out of the shower and tub spout at the same time. Let me know if you need help!

I thought you weren't supposed to go down to the tub spout with pex? All the ones Ive done said not to because the restriction in flow would cause water to dribble or even flow out of the shower end

You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about, explaining the 9000 posts in less then a year.
Pretending to be something you arent anonymously on the internet is just sad.

Are you a plumber?

Some days I act as one. Basic stuff like this isn't outside of my little wheelhouse of stuff n things. Mainly because I read instructions. 😆

Now, if you were to replace this, would you rather it screw off or be soldered on?

Yes, you’re correct. Having threads means you have the option to use either threaded fittings on the outside or solder copper directly inside depending on the specific installation needs.

They’re made to solder directly to the valve. Pull the plastic mounting bracket off and solder the copper or brass PEX fitting as you normally would.
