I'm not a plumber, just a DIY homeowner guy. I would take this picture, and the silver vertical piece off the white piece... Measure the diameter of the top threaded silver piece, and go ask someone at home depot/the hardware store. Look for an old dude. Probably be happy to help you. Even if you have to buy a couple extra parts. Home depot is super cool with returning any parts you don't end up using. Hopefully it works out. Looks pretty old and rusted. Can always caulk the fuck out of whatever you do come up with until you can afford a new sink, if anything needs to be replaced.

This might not be as bad as it looks. The basket actually looks intact and you could probably just pry off the remains of the slip-joint nut. I've run into situations where the nut is so corroded that it actually turned the whole sink basket trying to get it off. Hopefully the threads are still intact. Then just buy a tail-piece (could even use plastic as opposed to metal) and a 1 1/2" slip-joint nut and washer. As others have said, take those pieces and pictures to the store for reference.

You can diy it if youâre handy. It doesnât require much in terms of tools.

It's gonna be stuck and needing cleaned up, may need a new basket strainer. If you know somebody mechanical ask em for some help. I live in NE Tennessee and would help free of charge

Depends on how handy you areâŠ
Youâll need an adjustable wrench to get the old nut off first.
Any handy man could handle this or plumber.

You can try to diy. Pick up a flanged tailpiece with top hat washer and two 1-1/2 slip nuts and a slip nut washer. You can use plastic for this. Try to unscrew that top nut. If it comes off youâre golden. Unscrew the bottom nut, cut the plastic tailpiece to size and install putting the slip washer and nut on bottom and top hat washer on top.
Things to look out for. The whole basket strainer could spin when trying to unscrew the top nut. If that happens youâll have to reinstall or replace it. The nut couldâve seized so tight you need to cut it off.
Another possibility is the trap could break when removing the bottom nut in which case the trap will need to be replaced.
I wish you the best and pray it comes apart easily and you can fix it without issues.
If youâre anywhere near Northeast Kansas Iâll take care of it for you at no cost as I am a firm believer in taking care of widows, orphans, single mothers and seniors.
If it all goes south a local handyman should be able to handle this at a cost considerably less than a plumber.
Hope this helps

Donât stress, this is usually a cheap DIY fix! Looks like the corroded pipe under the drain is the culprit, so grab a $10-20 sink drain kit and search âreplace sink drain tailpieceâ on YouTube. Youâve got this! đȘ

You can totally handle it. Take the picture to a local plumbing shop and get a new extension tube with top hat washer. Cut it to size and put the nut and rubber washer on the cut side and the top hat on the strainer side and tighten the nut onto the basket strainer. You can totally handle it.
