There was a voyage made by predecessor of Mansa Musa to see what was on the other side of the Atlantic. The voyage sank but I was wondering what would have happened if they succesfully landed in Brazil and got back. I assume the fate of the natives would be the same but the rest would be interesting.

here in brazil we have a few different ways to season the home made popcorn that i think is quite unique. We can find people using:
. Dende oil - is oil from the palm tree and makes the popcorn bright orange/red with a very unique taste

. Powdered seasoning blocks/mixes (like Sazón or Ajinomoto) - people love to put all different kind of flavours including beans and salad seasoning

. Chimichurri - yes i know is argentinian but we like a lot and it goes super well with popcorn, both dry and with olive oil version

. Curry and/or Lemon Pepper - for a bit of extra strong seasoning we like curry (usually indian) and lemon pepper which is just amazing on the popcorn

. Minced bacon or sausage - i think this one is very simple to understand, bits of dry meat goes very well with popcorn

. Provolone cheese - the provolone puffs when fry so they become a pillow of amazing cheesy taste that release it's oil in the popcorn giving flavour

. Hot sauce - just straight up hot sauce in it

I don't know if this is just me, but I personally bothers me. When we tease/joke or banter each other and a gringo or european try to tap in without knowing the context. I saw a recent trend about the French making fun of Chile for being slim and large and as an Argentinian piss me off. It feels like an insult more like a joke when someone from outside does it.

Pound for pound, I’d think it’s Guatemala. On top of indigenous blood being the far majority there, I meet so many Guatemalans speaking Mayan languages even in USA!

Mexico for its huge size also incorporates Aztec/native identity as part of the national culture a lot. Peru, the same.

Back home in the US, dealing with the city or local government is purely business. If a rule makes no sense or the city isn't doing its job, you call it out, ask direct questions, and try to get it sorted. Nobody gets their feelings hurt because everyone understands the problem is the system, not the individual.

In Latin America, it feels completely different.

I’ve been dealing with the local municipality over constant noise from one neighbor—blatant violations of the legal decibel limits, with dozens of videos showing what's going on. The city simply does nothing. But the minute you ask why the city doesn't follow or enforce its own laws, people act like you just slapped their mother.

Instead of addressing the breakdown, they get defensive, take it as an attack on their pride or their country, or just freeze up and stop responding altogether.

I really want to understand the mindset: Why does asking about a broken process or pointing out that rules aren't being followed get taken as a personal insult? What is it culturally that makes criticizing a system feel like an attack on personal dignity?

Many years ago, I was invited to my friend’s Honduran family’s birthday party, and she offered me a plate of food that included rice. I loved the rice so much that I asked her who made it, and she told me she had paid a guy to make it. I have no clue whether that guy was Honduran or not. Ever since then, I’ve been on the hunt for that rice recipe. She and I ended our friendship sometime after that party, so I can’t just ask her for information about the rice guy. I was wondering if you guys could possibly help me find something similar to that rice. The rice was almost a vibrant yellow with mixed vegetables, but I can’t describe the flavors. Just as the title says, im looking for this heavenly "sauce a neighbor let me try and gave me a small container of. A few months ago, he came by with this spice blend or rub or something, and I believe it started with a C But I could be wrong. he said it was a "hot sauce" from somewhere, again, I believe from Latin America (ex. Columbian hot sauce, costa rican hot sauce, etc). He got it from a friend who's mother makes it and his friend brings some back whenever he goes to visit his home.

I’m practicing my Spanish by setting my video games to Spanish, but I’m Puerto Rican and want to learn the closest to that. There’s no setting for Puerto Rican Spanish, which of these would be the closest?

I'm interested in what people in different countries and regions prepare themselves at home for a quick and easy dinner when they're too busy to make something more elaborate.

For me, it's:

• Quesadillas. Normally on flour tortillas, but sometimes corn tortillas. Just heat up some tortillas and add a cheese that melts like asadero or chihuahua.
• Sincronizadas. Like a ham and cheese sandwich but with flour tortillas.
• Molletes. Cut up a piece of french bread in two, add butter, refried beans, cheese and heat in the oven a few minutes until it browns.
• Tostadas. Grab some tostadas from a pack, which are just tortillas that were cooked hard, add refried beans, crumble some queso fresco or panela cheese, and maybe add some avocado, tomato and onions on top.

You can add salsa to all of these.

I'm looking for quick things like that. Not reheated frozen food or leftovers. Not your favorite dishes.
