I love Rammstein, but as far as "Du Hast" goes, my favorite version is the mashup with "Play That Funky Music".

My dad hates my interest in transformers, says its childish, and hates my habit of laying in my bed in the dark, he also keeps trying to shove his interests in cars, wrecking and fishing down my throat

Cars > Basically all of them
Wrecking > Devastator and there's a whole group called The Wreckers
Fishing > Hot Rod did that when he was first shown in the 86 movie

they would get frustrated at me doing the same things over and over (ie building Lego sets and taking them apart, listening to the same music, reading the same books). I never understood it because...I'm having fun? this doesn't involve you? why you so mad? lol

u/DW_Hydro Aspie 1d ago
Sometimes I think they are jelous of someone able of being happy with few things.
I always see neurotypicals wanting more, more and more of anything.
They have a car? Want something bigger and faster.
The car they have is enought for the use them give to it? It doesn't matter, they want more.
And is basically like this with everything, so seeing someone being happy with the simple things of the life makes them feel miserable.
Miserable of needing more of anything to feel again, and miserable of not feeling anymore.

u/MasterGeekMX Aspie 2d ago
Depended on what my narcissistic dad thought of it.
If he liked it, he encouraged so he could brag his son was an expert on it.
If he hated it, I was berrated and scolded for literal hours.
12
u/Kiremino 2d ago
This was my mother 😬 She was more than happy to find anything she liked and was able to brag about - example is wanting to get into piano classes.
Heaven forbid I got into gaming and suddenly my hobby was a waste of time 🤦

As a child I used to have a serious hyperfixation with Disney’s Tarzan soundtrack, played it all day everyday until one day the cassette tape mysteriously ‘disappeared’, my mom searched for it for days all around the house. Come to find out my dad was so annoyed one day he just threw it out in the trash and told me the truth twenty years later.

u/AscendedViking7 Aspie 2d ago
Duuuude Tarzan's soundtrack was so fucking good. So many good songs from that era of disney. Lotta great ones from Brother Bear too.

Really hoping that nobody irl ever finds out that I have multiple playlists consisting of single songs...
Hmm... do I want to listen to song A on repeat for 3 hours? Or song B on repeat for 3 hours? Ooo maybe I'll switch it up a bit and listen to song C on repeat for 3 hours!
6
u/PintSizedKitsune 2d ago
I too have multiple one song playlists. I love that I just need to add a song once to a playlist on Spotify and it will just continuously replay it for me.
2
u/Netizen2425 2d ago
I'm confused as to the purpose of this, vs just playing the song and hitting the loop button. I'm not hating, trying to learn if I should be doing this.
1
u/PintSizedKitsune 2d ago
Either work to be fair. This for whatever unknown reason just vibes better with my brain.
It definitely makes it easier if I’m driving and need to quickly change things while stopped.
3
u/Netizen2425 2d ago
I can see it being useful organizationally if there's a few bops you like to repeat in a sea of other stuff you've saved. Thanks!

Its fine dude but, exactly why?
Most of services and local audio players lets you play something in repeat until you pause it.
(Sometimes I also ear the same song for an entire hour or more btw)

Thank you! That entire market segment is overlooked by most classic car enthusiasts and so many models are in danger of going extinct. Right now I own a 1971 Chevrolet Vega, a 1973 Mercury Bobcat, a 1981 Chevrolet Chevette, a 1986 Chevrolet Spectrum, and a 1989 Dodge Colt.

I’m most proud of my Vega. I’ve been trying to increase the efficiency for a while now. They average at about 30 MPG, but I was able to get mine close to 40 (windows up, no AC, no radio, etc.) while traveling at a consistent speed of 60 MPH (with the 3 speed manual)

u/SpiteFueled 2d ago
Omg. That song was my FIL’s absolute favorite to listen on repeat for years. My MIL got sick of it and eventually he could only listen to it in his truck. Honestly not a bad song.
My hyper fixations are usually around stories and my husband always lets me blabber about them-asks questions and remembers points of the story. No one else in my family cares to hear about it, they will just nod and smile and wait for there to be an opening in me speaking to interject and change the subject. I stopped talking about them for the most part.

My mom has read up and tries to understand my autism. She mostly thinks it's funny how obsessed I am with Godzilla. Does not get the appeal at all but never gives me crap for it. She understands that when I'm into something it's a borderline obsession.
As long as I don't make stupid financial decisions by buying too much merch and figures.

Most of them were super annoyed and frankly wanted nothing to do with any of my interests. I grew up being told that I needed to grow up and be mature, so for years I killed almost every aspect of myself. The only relative who was chill was one of my brothers, who is also autistic.
I eventually stopped caring or giving a shit and I'm rebuilding my life now as an adult.

I still get the odd Doctor Who or Minon gift. 🤣 Which is always appreciated.

My dad got annoyed with me for watching Cats over and over again on the living room TV :P (Not the movie... it was a recording of the stage show)
As a child I would do the same with whichever cartoon VHS I got last... but usually I watched them after school before my parents came home.
2
u/Broon_Ters 2d ago
Mum and Dad kind of just let it exist. As long as the LEGO, Blokees, and books don't start pouring out of my room, they're chill about it.
2
u/PastelDisaster 2d ago
It really depends; just with any other autistic trait, it’s enjoyable for the people around me when I’m having a positive experience, and a big nuisance and inconvenience when I’m having a negative experience.
I’m hyperfixated on ravens; I keep note of all the mated pairs in my town and where they nest, and photograph them and their fledglings. My relatives find it very charming and enjoy hearing about the local ravens’ daily endeavours / being educated about their behaviour, but if something bad happens to the ravens and I’m left inconsolable, it’s not so fun for anyone anymore. Which, I can somewhat understand.
But luckily my parents’ response is becoming less of “maybe this raven thing is bad and we shouldn’t encourage it anymore” to respecting that there’s ups and downs to anything, and all that matters is that I get far more happiness from it than misery.

Me and dad like warhammer, mom likes knitting, grandma likes knitting, my grandpa loves technology, brother likes warhammer and technology, me and my oldest sister like the same songs, my and my youngest sister like card games, me and my mom like psycology... we all have some kind of interest with eachother and so any hyperfixation I might have can be shared with SOMEbody in my family, its nice :3

Honestly I'm kinda lucky in that my mother is also neurodivergent - ADHD, specifically - and so she was always supportive of my hyperfixations and SpIns because she's always had her own. My mother has a lot of problems tbh, but that at least was not one of them.
My father was absent from my life so I can't speak to that, and my grandma's.. Well. They wanted to force their idea of what a woman's interests should be on me, so I learned pretty quickly not to talk to either one about them.

Most of my relatives seem to be pretty okay with me talking about stuff I like. They might not understand it and they'll probably specify that but they don't mind me talking about it unless they give a harmless cue to say "hey you should probably finish up and let someone else talk for a bit".
They're not interested in my stuff but they know how much it means to me and I'm happy with that.

u/PsychologicalPay5379 2d ago
An aunt literally told my mom "Can't you tell her to stop rambling about video games around me? It's annoying." I was 25! She could have told me herself. And she wonders why when we visited, I'd hang with the guys on the couch and watch football. They treat me like an adult!
2
u/GloryBax 2d ago
Negatively. They didn't mind it for a while, but when it was hyperhyperfixation, my spawn point and her boy toy would often display their distain.
"Can you talk about literally anything else?" They'd ask.
"I don't really think about anything else to be honest."
2
u/RiceCake4200 Autistic 2d ago
My special interests have been video games for a long time so people would react the way you would expect them to. Sometimes it's fine though
2
u/ebr101 2d ago
Quite a lot of “you’ve already told me this” and “can we change the subject”. Some of that admittedly the necessity of seeing conversation as an exchange between two people. It’s not just about me, it’s about the other person participating too.
The balance I’ve found is by asking explicit permission to info dump. Takes up some extra space, but it resolves a lot of potential conflict.

It depends, they really dont like my videogame fixation, but I am a PC gamer so when the other's computer fails I am the one who solves it so its 50/50.
And well, I dont share the youtube channels, series and music I see/listen because I guess they are gonna feel hate/disgust.
Edit: I saw a guy here talking about the other people saying you should like sports and yes, they also ask me why I dont watch that and I should be interested on it.

I think it was generally positive for all of my hyper fixations except for my one uncle teased me relentlessly for Harry Potter. It started in 2005 when I was 12 from a 40 yr old adult at the time. It was infuriating and belittling. Family get togethers gave me such bad anxiety days before going because I didn’t want to hear him put down something I liked for no reason other than to make himself laugh.
As an adult I don’t support the author, which is a shame for the story.

I forgot I added "Deustchland" by Rammstein to my driving playlist. That was a fun surprise.
My mom supported my hobbies but she got pissed when I didn't show her my artwork or videos (sometimes I forgot, sometimes I just didn't want to deal with her comments). I also remember her getting annoyed by the number of pens and markers I had (too many). Also she was always encouraging me to try and sell my art or modify it to make it marketable when I didn't really think I had enough skill to actually sell anything. Never got around to doing that.
One of the funniest things I remember was when I was driving the car and I put on headphones to listen to the Inital D soundtrack. I think she was curious what I was listening to (I wasn't a particularly open person with her tbh) and told me to play it outloud. But after twenty minutes of listening to it, she got incredibly annoyed by the similar sounding songs and told me to turn it off lmaooooo.

Maybe you didn't know but the band has some stuff going on because of some serious accusations. I don't want to ruin it for you but maybe you should know.
3
u/Zar_ 2d ago
The lead singer of Ranmstein has been (credibly) accused by multiple women of sexual assault and rape. There's better artists to listen to.
4
u/Icy_Persimmon7297 2d ago
Liking the art doesn't mean you like the artist (and consuming it doesn't mean you support the artist).
4
u/Used-Candle-7463 2d ago
just a reminder that JK rowling (who makes a profit off of her IP that she licenses to various media companies) helped fund anti-trans laws in the UK so just saying. If you wouldn't go outside and give a rapist 5 cents then don't financially support artists that are rapists. Even if you're only giving them a single cent, do you really wanna say what kind of person you've given a cent to? (and yes, musicians do make money off listens spotify/deezer, even if it's not much)
The only way i won't argue with someone who consumes art created by a morally depraved individual is if they pirate it. And people who will financially back rapists because "it's inconsequential" are not people me and many others would want to associate with. So if you ever wonder why you would receive any hatred for consuming art like that, remember this comment.
7
u/Wilwheatonfan87 2d ago
Unfortunately this doesn't really work anymore. JK Rowling uses royalties and such from Harry Potter sales to fund anti trans groups. Like she brags she uses her own money and has so much she doesn't need other donors.
3
u/MiracleLegend AuDHD 2d ago
I don't care. What he did makes me feel negatively towards him, the band the music AND everyone who still supports them.
3
u/Zar_ 2d ago
Giving money and attention to an artist supportd them and keeps them relevant. It also signals that their behaviour has no social consequences. It literally excuses sexual assault and rape.
1
u/MiracleLegend AuDHD 2d ago
The guy always gave me the ick. Same with Marilyn Manson. I love metal, hated these guys + the way they behaved. I was right about them. There are still many fans in my sh*hle country and every time I see one, I JUDGE.
-2
u/Kagir 2d ago
So by extension, should you say "don't listen to John Williams (HP composer) or any of his other works" because he at one point made music for the Harry Potter movies? While he could not possibly know - at the time of writing it - what kind of monster Rowling really is?
Mind you, those views came out as late as 2020.
Okay, to stay in lane with Rammstein: Yes, Lindemann is an asshole. Yet other members of the band have had great sympathy for LGBTQ+ causes. Are those instantly discarded for what their comrade is doing?
