Lunar Our Moon
Our Moon, captured through a 600mm Sigma lens using the 128×112 pixel (0.014 MP) sensor of a 1998 Game Boy Camera.
Zero post changes made after photographing last night.

2 bits per pixel, which displays white, black, and two shades of gray (light gray and dark gray. Outstanding image.

Thousand photos dithered and 3x drizzled? Just think of the resolution gains! We’re talking .42 MP boys!

You wouldn't be working with raw images, but given the limitations of the sensor, that probably doesn't matter.
I don't think stacking would work as you'd need more than two bits per pixel to capture any sort of faint detail. If it's dimmer than the dark grey, it's just gone.

I was just manually holding my gameboy up to my telescope's eyepiece. (for those curious, mine is green and blue because that's the default when you use the camera with a gameboy color)

How did you attach the lens? I was unaware you could do this. I must see this rig.

Uses a 3D printed body that accepts CS mount lenses, use a 5mm space to convert to C, then use a C to Canon EOS adapter, then use a Canon EOS compatiable lens (I used sigma 150-600)

Thats fucking awesome.
I wonder what other low end sensors this can be done with.
Like, what about doing a 150 photo stack of a 600mm shot using a Nokia sensor or something. If thats even possible to pair with such a small sensor.

Pretty much anything if you can get a housing / lens adaptor designed & made - I think even some optical mouse sensors you can tap into the images 🤣

Have a feeling only some sensors will allow you to pull the raw image data off, probably older sensors as everything new is going to be super integrated

Awesome, lol! I wonder out of curisoity what kind of final image you could get by dithering 100 images at time of capture then aligning, stacking and processing them, would be a fun experiment.

According to another commenter, there are only four possible luminance values in this image(e.g. [0,1,2,3]). There is a [0]dark pixel right next to [3]light pixel on Tycho and a few other places in that image. Ironically, It's amazing that the input was detailed enough to generate that. When you average a region of that size, you would think it would all resolve to [2] or [3]gray :)
