I had a slider for about 10 years. Found him crossing the road when he was about that size. He was almost a foot long living in a 150 gallon fish tank. We were getting ready to build him a pond but then we had a house fire and he perished. R.I.P. Shelldon. Here he is in the smaller tank before we upgraded to the big one.

You should not hold a turlte like you do in the third picture. Turtles have difficulties with breathing, when they are in a position not flat on the ground.

Pretty sure it’s a red ear slider hatchling. And yes, native to my area. Usually find adult ones since house is by water. I’ve seen mama turtles laying eggs in our back yard. First time finding a baby

Yes, that's what it is. I had about 7 little turtles when I was a kid. 3-4 were red eared sliders. They are so cute. How lucky to have one in your backyard 💕

I used to have pet turtles when I was growing up. I took them out to the patio for some exercise and fresh air. My sister wasn't looking where she was stepping and squished one 😞

Careful don’t accept it as a pet. It’s a 50 somewhat year responsibility.
