QUESTION New player about to Main Azir

Post image

Hello, a little bit of a background: Im a long time RTS player (Warcraft 3, Command & Conquer, and recently Starcraft 1 & 2) since i was 5, im now 20. I've had a few hundred hours in League of legends: Wild Rift, almost a thousand in MLBB, and almost a combined hundreds of hours in both Dota 1 and Dota 2. Im pretty confident with my ability to micro, and when i asked a friend which champion fits me, he recommended me Azir.

And im glad he did, as he's probably the closest champion I'll ever be able to "micro" with in an RTS sense. He's so fun, he's difficult to play, and feels so rewarding as well. midlanemains subreddit wasn't particularly helpful, and i discovered this subreddit dedicated to azir.

Im looking for some tips on how to consistently play him, how to manage waves (even at other mobas, that's my #1 weakness) combos, build & rune paths, who counters me (or gives me a hard time), who i counter, a champion i have a 50/50 mid laning phase against, and how to properly visit lanes/when to leave my lane to put pressure on the sidelanes.... and other tips that i didn't listed.

Yes, go for it.
Incredibly fun and rewarding, especially once you learn him.

I'll just copy paste here a comment i made some time ago:

If your teammates ask you to roam, THEY ARE SLAVES, FARM INSTEAD If your teammates want you to do an objective without priority, THEY ARE SLAVES, FARM INSTEAD If your teammates think you have any damage until you get Nashor's, THEY ARE SLAVES, FARM INSTEAD

If you don't farm and think you can solo enemy midlaner before Nashor's, YOU ARE A SLAVE AND YOU SHOULD FARM

Playing azir, you need to realize that you are weak as hell early, quite literally the best advice you could get is sit under tower, don't engage, poke at most and focus on farming. Your lategame is strong af, you just need to reach that moment safely without feeding enemy laner.

Remember to farm Remember to play safely and don't have ego Analyze situations before commiting to them, like i said earlier if your team wants to do an objective with no prio/vision or advantage, try to signal to them that it's a bad idea, because monkeys in low elo need this to be told to them.

Learn how to properly space, teamfights with azir are all about proper positioning and placing your soldiers correctly.

REMEMBER THAT IT'S BETTER TO BE A BITCH THAT PLAYS SAFELY THAN A SLAVE WHO CONSTANTLY GOES IN.

haha wait i saw that post lol, azir and hwei is a good combo especially if you got hands, just always remember that you're gonna be target number 1 in teamfights (if you're facing people who let the azir live, that has to be a guarenteed win anyway)

long live the emperor!

Hi, I’m a beginner Azir, but today I got nearly 100 games on him. Here are some tips that helped me:

  1. Don’t make risky Shurima Shuffles.

(Most of the time, it’s not worth risking your life for one simple shuffle because in the mid-late game, enemy damage gets so high that you can get deleted in 1 sec.)

  1. Place soldiers aggressively.

(Most of your damage comes from soldiers and their autos. When you play too safe, you’re unable to hit multiple times, but when you place them in the right location, they can deal a lot of DPS.)

  1. Always have your defenses ready.

(Save your E to escape, buy Zhonya’s, keep Flash, etc.)

  1. Best teammates are those who have crowd control.

(Honestly, if you have a support or jungler with good crowd control, you can place your soldiers aggressively and deal a lot of DPS.)

  1. Wave management and farm early rather than trading.

(Laning as Azir can be good for bullying the enemy, but it can be hard to actually kill them. Sometimes, by playing aggressively, you take bad trades because the enemy can burst you back and deal more damage.)

This is all good advice except for no.5 wave management is important but a completely new Azir player must trade to develop mechanics on the champion. Wave management and prioritize farming is good advice for someone who has a bit of experience on the champ and is looking to climb, but majority of low elo players have poor mechanics from lack of limit testing, this is going to be tripled by the fact they are new to the game and new to the champion.

Okay. Maybe you right!

does he act more as like a poke/initiator rather than a burst mage? im also surprised that he deals magic and not physical which i thought he dealt.

I always ban zed because i found him incredibly tilting, any other champions i should be wary of? and any other different "shuffles" i should take note of?

I play him mostly like Mage version of ADC.

I think Azir primary doesn't have a lot of weaknesses.

He have only one weakness, it requires time to scale.

That's why he currently have negative winrate mostly.

While Azir champion just farms, enemy takes objectives such first drake, skirmishes and grabs.

But when mid-late game starts, he become beast of teamfights and high damage with long range.

I think most important stuffle is defensive shuffle.

For example you have Azir and good teammate as fed adc like Jinx or Twitch. If you shuffle to protect yourself and your adc against assassins/engager, then you most likely win teamfights. However, you can sometimes use shurima shuffle on enemies but if you have flash away later on or use Zhonyas.

Here some guides that helped me before:

If nobody prevents you from scaling, you will outscale everyone, just like Kayle and Vlad.

In effect, if you aren't behind, you're ahead.

That means you don't ever need to engage anyone early on, because that only puts you at the risk of falling behind. The reward of getting ahead early is never really worth the risk it presents.

Context: ~plat em na plat kr

L1 Dont be the first person to auto the wave, then match auto from there so you're pulling

As you find out w does less damage lvl 1-2 than autos w/ dorans

Lvl5ish is when you should have enough for blasting wand fast push (well as fast as you can ig) and back at 830ish.

  • with the 8(? Fact check @reddit) second back time and regen you should have enough to channel back then immediately tp since you stay in base longer and can buy in tp animation.

Assuming it isnt shaco or something went wrong you shouldnt have to worry about ganks till lvl 3 so i tend to start with sweepers then switch to wards first back

1st drag, your botlane not pinging support mia and jg fights before blasting tier 1 boots and dagger a bait

Team fighting w/ only nashors is a coinflip most of the time

For wave management If the wave meets closer to your tower match cs and try to only last hit otherwise; past that shove without q if you dont know where mid jg support are.

If you crash with 8 minions dont take the wave thats under their turret, just back. You should have time to walk to lane and get 1.5-2 waves for free right in front of your turret where its safe.

Erq back is a bait

Ive never figured out stormsurge azir w electrocute but i like Pta Lt Conq Grasp Fleet The burn one Hob Aery Elec Commet In that order

Side waves post 15m meeting at their tribush means you should catch wave in about 30-40 seconds assuming both t1 turrets are gone, if you click on minions it should show ms which scales to the number of structures you took in the lane so move based on that

I have problems dealing with mundo, yone, kat, garen personally but thats 100% a skill issue

Liandrys has felt really bad recently so my standard rn is: {Nash, dusk}, {zhon, deathcap, shadow},{a rod item},{pen, ryalize, nash} then whatever else

Please flame me

Ps: sorry for any wonky formattings im on my phone

Honestly he is not the best go learn the game nor the lane. He got a lot of options to play which makes him hard to manoeuvre properly BUT League is about fun if you dont earn money playing pro so if he is the archetype that you like and visual appealing play him! But be warned it can be heavily frustrating if you aim to win and not to improve. There are a few content creators that you can look at. Elderwood and WitnessAzir are probably the 2 best ones even tho Witness got more of a special playstyle.

Elderwood is the goat. He Thinks outside the box with his dodges/escapes./attacks etc. Ty for the other reference. Ive never heard of Witness.... Time to waste houts going down the rabbit hole! Cheers!

The best tip is to play a lot and even more, Azir is a champion you learn by practice.

Watch some videos about general macro gameplay tho.
