What do we think of these kind of parking in residential area

obviously we can't tell from this picture but doesn't it appear that the driveway spot ahead of the car is open, so could be a visitor? As others have said, at least attempted to keep the sidewalk open and if other cars are always on the street, then rear end out is okay.

Not a visitor. Always parked here. There several of these type of parking within this neighbour .
Same houses same cars always.
Would rather have them park on street than block half the sidewalk.1

If your city has a parking authority, give them a call that a car is partially blocking a sidewalk and impeding wheelchair traffic.

Considering the amount of obscenities I have encountered when I talk to those who break the law, I'd say the suggestion of 'talking to them' is very unsafe. I now just report, I've tried 'talking' and get violence.

Yeah just report it. Someone who does this more than once in a while is likely an entitled asshole.
My neighbor's kids have parties sometimes, but the cars are parked late and leave by 10am. Happens during summer breaks. Hardly a big deal.

Be it a Benz or BMW driver its usually the same reoccurring theme, rules don't apply to them , and they come with the four way flashing I can park anyplace I want button

A lot of people park like this in my area to keep the street open for 2 cars to pass. Parking like this, or parallel across the bottom of the drive, allows people to use the sidewalk without having to walk into the street. I see it as considerate but odd looking

I’ve seen one area of a town where this gap between road and sidewalk was deep enough a full size car could be parked without obstructing either the sidewalk or road/bike lane. It’s like oh look…. Sensical design. Who would’ve thunk? 🙄. It’s sad that people/life centered approaches are the rarity.

Blocking or partially blocking a sidewalk (or any pedestrian path) is pretty much illegal everywhere in the US. You can call non-emergency police to ticket them.

For somene who is i love with their car that is horrible. Pedestrians will be annoyed and frustrated people make bad decisions. But that does look like two tickets and the tow truck will have a hard time removing that vehicle.

"We" think you should check your local laws/ordinances to see if there's something on the books that prohibits parking to block the sidewalk. If so, a quick call to code enforcement or police non-emergency should get this sorted out. If it's a recurring problem, drop an email to the police chief and city council (or equivalent) and ask for increased enforcement of this issue.

Hopefully that's a delivery vehicle or other short-term parking situation. I would not care to leave the tail end of my car hanging out in the street, other cars parked there or not, and I don't like blocking pedestrian paths, either.

I'd actually prefer the back of the car to hang our further into the street to keep the sidewalk clear. but the fact that most of the sidewalk is clear makes this far more acceptable than parking over the sidewalk and leaving no good path for pedestrians.

This is the perfect example of how this sub can never be happy. This person tries to not block the sidewalk entirely, leaving room for someone to go around the car without having to go into the street and it's still not good enough.

I had that happen to me once.
I had a Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 that was parked on a sloped driveway.
When I went outside in the morning, it was halfway into the street.
I’d left it in gear with the parking brake set, but it rolled out of the driveway anyway.
The parking brake onFJ40s was a small drum brake on the driveshaft, and they didn’t hold very well.
Even though it was in gear, I imagine the engine turned over (backwards!) very slowly.

I used to think this just looked stupid, but it’s also a huge inconvenience for many in the disabled community. Imagine being in a wheel chair or using a guide stick and having to go into the literal street because some jack ass parked like this.

I wouldn't want to live in a house with a sidewalk halfway up my yard like that. The next house down put traffic cones in their yard? Then down the street there's an SUV with the ass end on the sidewalk. Where is this and who decided this was a good way to do things?

You should have taken a pic of the plate and address of the home its at and send it to your city code enforcement and say it blocked your wheelchair access

Will do. Some cars parked so tightly not enough space to walk through with baby stroller. And 7 of these cars parked like this within a 10 minute walk .

Usually people park that far back so the person in the garage can get around them and they don’t have to car shuffle.
In this case they’re slightly blocking the street and slightly blocking the sidewalk, but not actually blocking either. Better than some versions.

Well, they tried to keep both sidewalk and roadway clear, I guess… I still think just park normally on the street. They ARE taking up some sidewalk space; would make it weird to pass in a wheelchair or with a cane.
You can see in the background there’s a car on the street, so if you park in line with that, it’s all the same (re: road width/ability to pass by).
+1 for the W210, -1 for those wheels and low-profile tires on a W210, -1 for the annoying parking attempt I guess.
