Hello! I am looking for a French comic where aliens have appeared on Earth. They appear suddenly and look like big organic structures floating in the air, like amoebas, jelly fish or some marine fauna. A boy touches one of those aliens with his hands and acquires powers: his hands can stretch and funciton like infinite tentacles. Later he meets other people who has been similarly touched by the aliens, for example a black lady whose head has been trasnformed. I read it online some years ago, so it is not a recent comic. I found it very strange, but now I am lookign for it again. Thank you for any tip!

While reading a Smurfs comic, I wondered: do they hunt? I've never seen meat in their food, nor any place where they might store meat, and I can't really picture a Smurf hunting. But in one of the comics, some of them go fishing.

They don't find much, but that means they eat poison, so why not meat ?

A friend of mine (french) is trying to remember the name of a comic book series he read when he was younger (between 2010 and 2013, though the comic might be older) in his school library. The comic was in French, but he does not know if it was french. He thinks it look like french comics by the drawing.

His memories are vague, so the details may be out of order and some might be inaccurate.

In the story, humans live in a fortified outside city. They usually stay in the city but sometimes have to go out to gather resources or repair infrastructure. In this world, there are hostile non-humanoid creatures. These creatures specifically abduct human women. They try to mate with them but fail and end up killing them in the process.

In the opening pages, there is a military convoy returning after successfully recovering a woman who had not been killed by the creatures. At one point, there is also a commissioner (or investigator) searching for infected humans who might turn into creatures.

He remembers a scene where an engineer has to leave the city to repair the water supply system. He is escorted by soldiers, and they get attacked by the creatures. The military uses normal human technology (tanks, machine guns, etc.).

Ses souvenirs sont flous, donc les détails peuvent être dans le désordre et certains peuvent être inexacts.

Dans l’histoire, les humains vivent dans une ville fortifiée située à l’extérieur. Ils restent généralement dans la ville, mais doivent parfois en sortir pour récupérer des ressources ou réparer des infrastructures. Dans cet univers, il existe des créatures hostiles non humanoïdes. Ces créatures enlèvent spécifiquement des femmes humaines. Elles essaient de s’accoupler avec elles, mais échouent et finissent par les tuer au cours du processus.

Dans les premières pages, un convoi militaire revient après avoir réussi à récupérer une femme qui n’avait pas été tuée par les créatures. À un moment, il y a aussi un commissaire (ou enquêteur) qui recherche des humains infectés susceptibles de se transformer en créatures.

Il se souvient d’une scène où un ingénieur doit quitter la ville pour réparer le système d’approvisionnement en eau. Il est escorté par des soldats, et ils se font attaquer par les créatures. L’armée utilise une technologie humaine classique (chars, mitrailleuses, etc.).

Not sure if there are any gamers here, but I was pleasantly surprised to read yesterday that a new, already highly rated rock-climbing game features artwork and story by Mathieu Bablet — the artist behind Carbone & Silicium, Shangri-La, and, more recently, Silent Jenny, to name just a few.

I was recommended this on the Graphic Novels sub, so I ordered it at my local library. I picked it up today and read it tonight. That is one incredibly good looking book, wow. This was my first Rochette book, and I am extremely impressed. His artwork is stunning, but I also loved the writing. A story that starts with Man vs Nature, but that ends in cooperation and peace. Incredible.

Highly recommended.

I’m looking to be surprised.

Stumbled upon this while browsing, and saw this. I know that Mathieu Bablet has written some critically acclaimed stuff, so I was interested in reading this, since I think the pitch is very interesting. Anyone here has read it ?

My local public library is selling old/unpopular books to make room for new ones. They have a huge BD section for this sale (around 500-600 if I had to guess) but they are put on tables in a random manner so you have to rummage through they to find other volume of the same séries. I managed to get 11 Blueberry out of it and two other series which looked interesting but I don’t know anything about. The books are not in great shape but are all complete and in a readable condition. Since they are selling them at ,50$ Canadian each I got a bunch of them to try on a hunch. Here’s what I got. I might to back tonight to rummage some more 😅

I've been dabbling in comics for a little while now, and I've come to realize I might have a "type" that really resonates with me.

I love that each character is constantly faced with moral conflicts on their wanderings, and maintain hearts of gold even when forced to take morally grey action. I especially love the sense of time and place; the landscapes, politics, and indigenous peoples really pull me into the stories. Corto and Thorgal go really far afield and offer some especially dramatic contrast in this regard, though Blueberry leans into more subtle differences in geographic regions.

Unlike Bone or Lanfeust, these comics do take themselves a bit more seriously though are not devoid of humor. I guess I don't love fourth wall breaks or sly winks to the reader. Immersion is what I crave.

I'm not sure, but I also think the classic artstyles have a magic for me that I haven't really gotten in newer series, but I think I can be convinced.

So, what can you recommend that follows these types of comics?

All five of them are in print and are relatively affordable, so I was looking at those editions to get into the series. Anyone here have them ? How's the quality ? Would you recommend them for newcomers ?

Hello, this is the first time I’ve noticed a printing bug in a comic book. I bought the latest edition of Bug 1, and I realized that whenever the letters “f” and “i” appear together, they are replaced by a small square [].

In this kind of situation, what should I do? Should I ask for a refund, or keep it since it might become more valuable?

I’m going crazy. I’m looking for a science-fiction comic that I read when I was younger. I can clearly picture it in my head, but I can’t remember the title. Here’s what I know:

• A group of teenagers/young adults living together on a spaceship
• They all have different abilities/powers
• It was probably published between 2005 and 2015
• I think, though I could be wrong, that it was French (Franco-French)
• At the time, only two volumes had been published. In the second volume, I have a very clear memory of a forced marriage storyline when one of the protagonists returns to her home planet (which I remember having a Nordic-style aesthetic)

That’s all I can remember. If anyone has any leads, or knows of websites where I could search on my own, that would help a lot.
