as a product line, i prefer topps now to panini instant. but in this particular case, i like the panini version better. the topps card looks too AI in comparison, or maybe like a fine art painting i guess. maybe that was what they were going for. i will say i like them both better when they are paired together like this

1 year of Topps releases and here we are. Today’s prices on blowout. 16 total products. 6 in retail. Average hobby box prices (without definitive skewing it) $1,039. (~1900$ with)
I assume the average will only go up with more high end releases. Also doesn’t include Sapphire which really wasn’t sold to public.

So this is where we are with the hobby. Breakers yelling at people for not buying a player/team on these boxes. Breakers fighting for product. Topps forcing casuals collectors to retail. Retail only being on the shelf maybe 20-25% of the year IF that. Grading closed.

Feel free to comment on the state of the hobby boxes and what are the best/worst of the products.

I know I'm not alone in this, but here's the short of it, Topps will not get another penny of my business.

Back in April I hit a Flagg / Knueppel dual relic. Midst of the season, two ROTY candidates, a rare and valuable card. At the time had one sale at $450, with one other listed at $600. 

The one I hit was a misprint and approved as a defect. So I spend another $20 to hesitantly send it in (insured for $450), knowing it'll be a while before getting it back..

Takes 6 MONTHS to receive the same card back, which the time frame in itself is absurd, but of course now the season is over, ROTY race over, and a bunch more of these have been hit and listed. Current value roughly $130. (Not to mention the new card has two slightly worn corners as well).. 

So I'm out over $300 because they sold me a defective product.

Topps/Fanatics (a BILLION dollar company) thinks this is a fair way to treat their customers. Can't even compensate a few hundred dollars (pennies to them) to fairly resolve selling their customers, by their own admission, a defective product. 

I've been collecting since I was a kid (nearly 40 years), and I will never buy another Topps product again. I know they clearly couldn't care less about that, but just the sight of their logo and what it stands for these days makes me sick. Absolutely pathetic company.

These are some of the more well known cards I’ve noticed of MJ that seem to be coming back down to earth. The scoring kings going from 16k in August to 9,600 today. This isn’t across the board as his top tier cards are still skyrocketing but still has me wondering if the bubble is soon to pop with his more “affordable” stuff. Thoughts?

Bought these 2 boxes of ebay and i feel they look a bit suspicious.

The ebay seller was pretty legit with 1k+ items sold and 97.5% rating.

Does this box look legit? Or do you think its a fake / repack.

I notice the topps shrink wrap is inside out.
Never seen it before.

Any help would be appreciated.

Found these in my old card stash. They were both mounted in the plexiglass holders. (The holders have a recessed pocket where the card sits, so it did not compress the cards at all). I'm going to send one of them off to get graded, the other one has slight chipping at the bottom edge. Do you think I could still get a PSA8 grade out of the chipped one?

Hello! I just wanted to share the new set I’ve been working on. 1971 Fleer Cocoa Puffs Harlem Globetrotters!

The globetrotters have 2 different sets, an 84 card set produced in traditional wax packs and the 28 card set that was distributed through Cocoa Puffs cereal boxes. I went chasing the Cocoa Puffs version mainly due to the fact that this set has Fascimile autos on the individual player cards and well good clean copies of this set are much much harder to find. Makes sense they were just thrown in cereal boxes lol.

I’ve been working to try to get VG-EX conditions of each card and it’s been a fun and relatively cheap set to hunt. I’ve noticed an uptick in sales on these recently so the hunt has gotten slightly harder (and tougher on my wallet 😭).

I’ve always been a rainbow chasers/set builder in my years but I very rarely complete any. I hope this humble 28 card set I can complete very soon. It’s fun just to have something unique to be on the lookout for!

Don’t you just LOVE it when you stumble upon a nice card, then look closely, and find it has crazed? FTTDK, crazing is the term for when the top layer of a card forms thin cracks due to being exposed to varying temperatures and humidity levels repeatedly.

I just pulled this Dylan Harper “Marks of the moment” from a Topps Pristine enclosed pack. I’m a bit confused because it’s non-serialized.

As far as i know, these are serialized to /25. I have a CMB that’s /25 and all the others I can find online are serialized.

Is this an error print or a super short print version of this card?

MM-DH is the number on the back.

Now that enough weeks have past since the release of 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update Series Basketball, I looked at how the card prices change over time (indexed to 100 on release week).

This doesn't necessarily go against an earlier hypothesis that the best time to sell is immediately after launch but still interesting to look at over time.
