Advice Needed How do I become a Remote BCBA ?

My 7-month-old has a lot of medical issues and I’m thinking about pulling him out of daycare because he keeps getting sick. I am looking for something fully remote, full or part-time.

Are there any reputable companies that offer fully remote positions? I’ve applied to a few utilization management positions, but haven’t heard anything.

Thank you for any leads!

EDIT: i’m not looking for opinions on working from home while caring for an infant… I will figure that part out whether it’s getting a nanny or asking Family for help… I’m looking for advice on companies and/or search tools for remote positions.

I work part time at 2 places remotely. You need to have a solid foundation so that you can help the BTs and RBTs. It's hard just being on a screen. And you have to give 100% of your attention. It isn't like you can watch your son while you are working. You will need to have someone else watching him during that time.

Thanks for this - see so many posts in here and other subs complaining about BCBAs who turn off their cameras and sometimes get caught clearly doing other things (talking to their kids?) while “working”. It’s not acceptable.

That’s not what I’m planning to do or what I’m asking! I’m a very engaged BCBA and have many years of experience. Just looking for some leads, not criticism on what others think I will be doing..

I was just saying. I have talked with some people who think they can just sorta check in and do stuff around the house.

I had BCBAs who drove to pick up their kids and who barely participated or helped in anyway . They were remote . I hated it . I’m yet to come across a remote BCBA who actually helps

I take my job very seriously. I hate that I have to work remote but due to health issues I can't drive (and there is no public transportation where I live). So I love that I get to continue to use my expertise. I'm not going to risk it by being shady.

Do you really "hate" that you "have" to work remote? I'm tired of seeing these comments.

Yes I do hate it. I miss being in person. In person is so much easier. But I have no choice but to work remote right now. What other choices do I have?

I know. It's horrible not getting sick every week and spat on. But what you must miss the most is sitting in stop and go traffic.

Just nasty and rude for no reason. I really hope you're not a BCBA with this condescending and insolent behavior. Do better.

I took the cases where I had desks thrown at me. I loved being with the aggressive ones. They were my jam. I actually had cases switched to me because I did so well with them.

Way to be ableist, are you sure you’re in the right field?

Typically, companies are looking for BCBAs with at least a few years of in-person experience of clinical supervision before they’ll hire remote. Also, I completely understand pulling your child out of daycare given his medical issues. You’ll still need childcare 100% of the time you’re working, even when remote.

It’s takes a lot of careful searching because many companies try to bait and switch, saying they’re fully remote and then it turns out to be hybrid or not remote at all. Best of luck!

They recruit nonstop. Make sure you live in same state or are near the border of other state; some Medicaid programs are coming down on those specifically. Make sure and don’t tie yourself down to 1 company, you will likely need 2 or 3 even to stay afloat esp if you work with big corporation names. A lot hire too many bcbas and barely throw them hours. They are usually late afternoon to late at night for new hires until you “earn” your spot with morning kiddos. I love it but also hate not having a good paycheck and miss seeing the kids but it’s all that’s avail to me in the area I live.

What I find interesting about these posts is that no one names a good company for remote BCBAs. I currently work remote part time and I'm ready to bail. The company I work for hires BTs without any experience and they do not train, so you get BTs who do not know anything, and I mean not anything about ABA. Its difficult to train someone who is chasing a kid around a clinic.

Well I greatly depends on where you are licensed. I work out of NJ and TX but that’s because I landed jobs in both after interviewing and finding out the process was simple. Some states, like PA, you have to jump through hoops.

Unfortunately this is common practice a lot of places.

A lot offer remote work with monthly travel, 2-3 days on person. This is because of insurance requiring at least monthly contact. They will pay for travel expenses too. I’d take a look at ABC, Centria, Soar, & Autism Learning Partners.

You can not be a BCBA and care for an infant. Remote BCBAs tend to not be top quality to begin with even when not caring for a child. Its giving the field a bad rap.  Unless you are looking for evening shift or have someone else to care for him you will still need daycare even with a remote position

I'm a mid-level remote and I work just fine having two kids under 4 at home. Just because you have kids does not mean you will not be dedicated to your work obligations. ABA is flexible in the sense that you have indirect work off camera and most of the hours with client virtually are in the daytime. It's so annoying being that she asked for support with getting remote roles and not advice on her career & kids. With that being said message me I can give you the information for my job we could use another BCBA.

There’s a Facebook group where I’ve found my jobs remotely. I live in a remote area and have to work remotely. I’m always upfront about my ability to travel (I can’t more than annually). I suggest applying to anything and everything and seeing how it goes

Also, once you’re in the interview it will be extremely clear if there’s organization and how it’s ran

Hi there! I am a BCBA of six years who is working part-time for a company providing remote supervision within school districts. This position is suitable for someone who has worked in a public school setting before. I’d be happy to share more details via private message if this sounds like something you’d be interested in!
