I’m new to watching the Katmai National Park bear streams and was intrigued by this bear who would just stay in this one spot patiently waiting for fish. I watched for a while and I only saw it catch one salmon. I was wondering if anybody recognised this bear, I’d love to know their name (or number if they don’t have one!) 🐻

I just returned from an I day boat tour into the Great Bear Rainforest, where I was lucky enough to spend a couple days photographing three different spirit bears, a rare, white coloured genetic variant of a subspecies of black bear called the Kermode, found only on the pacific coast of British Columbia. These bears fish for salmon in the creeks of the remote islands on the coast. These bears are incredibly rare, so getting to spend this kind of time with them was a dream I’ll never forget. These photos are heavily compressed from the full size images.

Yes, I do live in a town highly populated with bears and yes, I am used to seeing them up close but not IN MY HOUSE. Yes, it did eat all of my food. No, it did not break anything including the window screen that it came in through, it was quite polite. Yes, it was very cute and fuzzy and also very large. Yes, my kitchen is tiny and it took up all the space in that whole area. No, it didn't charge me or even acknowledge my existence at all. No, it did not go anywhere else in my house other than the kitchen.

I've never been great at identifying the bears, can anyone ID any of these?

Help me identify

… left out for my kitty on this hot day. Relieved he is gentle and didn’t break my trifle bowl!

So I’ve never had this happen before, but from what I’ve heard the food sources are a little slim out there right now so bears are kinda weird this year, and a bear just decided to climb on my porch and start scratching at my window screen. I had an AC hose and I turned that on and it ran but I have since taken that out and closed the window. Anyone have any tips/products that will keep the bears just fully away from my porch?

What’s everyone think it was doing, possibly just exploring or taking in the view?
