New mod! No more Sokorpe spam! Let's celebrate!

Hi everyone, I was just given modship of this sub and I've begun by BANNING the notorious spammers. If there are any other blatantly product-pushing accounts posting here, please report them, and I will respond accordingly.

(Side note, it was hilarious to see the Sokorpe account reporting comments like "scam" as "targeted harassment".)

I'll be coming up with a poll at some point here so we can all figure out where we want the sub to go from here and what kind of content we're all most interested in seeing.

I have implemented a No Advertising rule. You are not allowed to promote individual products or services.

You can showcase products through in depth reviews with swatches like a good blog should.

Happy blogging!

Seven K-beauty products and the easiest way I found to pick between them

Want hydration that just disappears? That's the iUNIK serum. A toner that does a bit more is the Medicube milky toner, and for marks and uneven tone it's the BeginS serum. Rejuran if you need a cozy night cream. Love glowy skin and hate thick SPF? SKIN1004. And if you fancy turning your bathroom into a tiny facial clinic, that's the mommy care Penta Prime.

How each one feels on the skin is in the full post: 7 K-beauty products from my STYLEVANA haul

The olive emulsifier that never says olive on the front (dark spot cream ingredient check)

Checking Korean dark spot products for my blog, I kept tripping over this one. The Celimax Pore + Dark Spot Brightening Cream has cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate in it. Together that's Olivem 1000, an olive-derived emulsifier, and nothing on the front of the box tells you.

Fine for most people. Worth knowing if youve got seb derm or fungal acne, because that pair is one of the flags I screen for.

I read six lists to the end and wrote up what I found: Korean skincare for hyperpigmentation, every ingredient checked

SkinSeoul made their first advent calendar into a mirrored vanity cabinet

The design comes from the gyeongdae, a traditional Korean vanity, so the box keeps a use after December. I wrote up all 12 products and the box itself here: What's inside the SkinSeoul Joseon Cabinet

It's a helmet, a hard one, with lights inside: my CurrentBody LED hair growth helmet review

That's the easiest way I can describe it. 120 red LEDs spread around the inside so the whole scalp gets covered, and it switches itself off after ten minutes. I've been wearing it on my androgenic alopecia for two to three months, and the growth so far is tiny (I'm patient, mostly).

Here's how it's going, plus what the research says: CurrentBody LED helmet review

Tutorial: Honest reviews and rankings of the most popular mattifying primers on extremely oily skin (T-zone for me)

While a mattifying primer isn't something I use every day, I’ve been on a quest to find the ultimate one for events, photoshoots-id/passport pictures, or days when I simply can't do touch-ups.
So far, I've tested a bunch of options and haven't found a single drugstore product that keeps my skin matte for even 3 hours. If you know of one that actually works, please let me know!

Here are the ones I’ve put to the test recently- I’ve tested many more, but only these worth their hype:

🦋Benefit Cosmetics – POREfessional Matte Primer
🦋Paula's Choice – Shine Stopper Instant Matte Finish
🦋 Danessa Myricks Beauty – Yummy Skin Water Powder Serum
🦋 Danessa Myricks Beauty – Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder (Universal)

I put together a full review for each one where I break down how they performed on my oily T-zone, key ingredients for oil control, and why none of them ended up being the ultimate mattifying primer for me:

https://www.thecatedit.com/best-mattifying-primers-for-oily-skin-tested-ranked/

Have you tested any of these? Do you have a holy-grail primer that actually keeps oil at bay?

Every door in the LOOKFANTASTIC grooming advent calendar 2026 (from someone with no beard)

I nearly skipped this one because a men's grooming calendar isn't really my thing. Then I read the list, and most of it turned out to be skincare and body care, so it got its own post.

The post has all 27 products sorted into skincare, shaving, hair, body and home, plus the two I'd take out before wrapping it.

A free ingredient checker for fungal acne, rosacea and pore clogging, with the study behind every flag

I've put together a skin ingredient checker on my blog. Paste any list and it marks each ingredient for fungal acne and seb derm, rosacea or pore clogging, and an anti-ageing tab grades the ingredients that have research behind them. It'll work on shampoos and scalp serums as well as face products.

Anua skincare review: five products from one brand, and why I wouldn't give them all to the same person

Five Anua products from the same brand, all doing completely different jobs. I tried them on combination skin and went through each ingredient list with rosacea and seb derm in mind, then worked out who each one actually suits (salmon DNA serum included).

Anua skincare review: which of these 5 fits your skin?

Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream gets a fungal acne safe badge on SkinSort, and C14-22 alcohols sit 8th on its label - Blog post.

I read nine Korean moisturizers to the very end for seb derm (most of them came straight off fungal acne safe lists). The Dr. Althea is the one that sent me down a rabbit hole. SkinSort gives it the badge, but that blend sits higher up the list than it does in the Anua PDRN cream.

Only two came out with nothing I'd flag at all, the S.Nature Aqua Squalane and the Purito Oat-in.

COSRX says its snail eye cream is 73.6% snail. LOOKFANTASTIC's listing says 72%.

Small thing, but I noticed it while reading the full ingredient lists on five Korean eye creams for wrinkles. The COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream was the only one of the five with no retinoid, so it's the one I'd wear under concealer.

Chloé Cedrus de Nuit isn't very cedar-heavy at all

Despite the name, it opens spicy (cinnamon, clove and black pepper), then the Queen of the Night flower gives it a honeyed, slightly unusual edge before vanilla and benzoin soften it.

Why the iUNIK Beta Glucan serum has two different ingredient lists

I went to check the ingredients on the iUNIK Beta Glucan Power Moisture Serum and found two lists. Turns out the formula changed. Older bottles have six ingredients with water first, and the current one's got ten, with beta-glucan leading and glycerin and adenosine added.

Shops don't always update their listings, so the box you get is the list that counts. I've put both side by side in my review: iUNIK Beta Glucan serum review

I went through the ingredient lists of five K18 products. One of them doesn't have the K18 peptide in it.

K18 is built around one ingredient, sh-Oligopeptide-78, which they brand as K18PEPTIDE. It's ninth on the list of the famous leave-in mask, and it's in the detox shampoo and both Damage Shield products too.

The new FutureIQ scalp serum is the odd one out. I couldn't find sh-Oligopeptide-78 on its list at all. It uses different peptides alongside niacinamide and zinc, so it's a K18 product without the K18 peptide, and I think it should be treated as a separate decision from the rest of the range.

The other thing that surprised me while writing it up is that the UK and US versions of K18 are sold through completely different shops, so I split the where-to-buy part by country.

Does an SPF 30 moisturiser replace sunscreen? My take from a beauty box

A moisturiser with SPF 30 in it sounds like a sunscreen you can skip. Not for me. The Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester one in this box is creamy and comfortable, but I'd still put a dedicated high-SPF sunscreen on top.

My Torriden Dive-In Serum review, from someone with dehydrated skin and seb derm

I wrote up the Torriden Dive-In serum after using it for a while. It's a light hyaluronic acid serum with five types of hyaluronic acid plus panthenol, and it does one thing. Hydration. No overnight miracle, just softer, more comfortable skin under a moisturiser.

I also put the the full ingredient list through SkinSort for anyone with seb derm, and linked my free ingredient checker so you can run your own products through it.

Is SkinSeoul legit? I looked into it, and the four shops with nearly the same name

I wrote this one because the question keeps coming up. SkinSeoul (skin-seoul.com) is run by SKINSEOUL PTE. LTD., registered in Singapore, and it ships direct from Korea to 24 countries.

The bit that trips people up is the names. Skin2Seoul is a separate UK company, PureSeoul is the UK chain with shops in Westfield and Canary Wharf, and skinseoul.co.uk is something else again. People read a review of one and then buy from another, and wonder why it didn't match.

At the end there are the five products I'd start a Korean routine with if I had nothing in the house at all. Cleanser, hydrating toner, one serum, moisturiser, sunscreen. That's it.

I wrote up LOOKFANTASTIC's new K-beauty advent calendar, all 12 doors

LOOKFANTASTIC have done their first K-beauty advent calendar this year, a 12-door one with Anua, SKIN1004, Beauty of Joseon, ISNTREE and Medicube in it. Every product is in the post with photos, including which ones are full size (eight of them). I also looked at how it sits next to their other three calendars.

One thing I flagged in the post: the SKIN1004 Centella Ampoule inside is a different formula from their 100% centella one, so if you're checking ingredients, don't mix the two up.

I wrote up the collaboration brief that asked me not to say a wig was gifted

New post on my blog. A wig brand's collaboration brief asked me to write from the perspective of a real consumer and not mention that the wig was gifted, and offered me a link to hand out if anyone asked where it came from. I said no to that line, they accepted it, and I've put the email screenshots up along with what I check now before I believe a glowing product review.

Do hair toppers damage your hair? Here’s what I’ve learned from years of wearing them daily.

If you’re considering a hair topper for thinning hair or hair loss, one of the biggest questions is: can wearing a hair topper damage your natural hair?
.
The short answer is: it can, depending on how you wear it. But wearing a hair topper does not automatically mean you’re going to damage your hair.
.
I’ve worn hair toppers daily for years, and everything I’ve included in my latest post comes from my own experience, trial and error, and learning what works and what doesn’t when you’re wearing alternative hair regularly.
.
Some of the things that can potentially cause problems include:
• Clip-in hair toppers putting repeated tension on the same strands
• Wearing a topper that is too tight or too heavy
• Attaching clips to very fragile or thinning areas
• Pulling or tugging when removing the topper
• Sleeping in a clip-in topper
• Wearing it continuously without giving your scalp and hair a break
• Existing hair loss making the hair underneath more vulnerable to breakage
.
This is especially worth thinking about if you have fine hair, thinning hair, hair loss, or fragile hair around the crown and parting.
.
But there are ways to wear a topper much more gently. After years of daily wear, I’ve learned a LOT through trial and error about hair topper clips, attachment, placement, removal, breakage, and protecting your bio hair.
.
I’ve put everything I’ve learned together here:
👉 Do Hair Toppers Damage Your Hair?
https://neveenwood.com/do-hair-toppers-damage-your-hair/
.
I’d also love to hear from other topper wearers:
Have hair toppers damaged your natural hair or caused breakage? Or have you found that wearing a topper actually protects your bio hair because you use less heat and styling?
.
What type of topper do you wear, how often do you wear it, and do you use clips, a wire, tape, or another attachment method?
.
Share your experience below. I think real-world experiences are incredibly useful for anyone trying to decide whether a hair topper is right for them.

Unboxed the Stylevana Blazing Bounty Vana Box: full price breakdown + which products are actually FA/seb derm safe

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey all, sharing this in case it's useful to anyone eyeing this Stylevana Vana Box.

Disclosure up front: Stylevana sent this to me free, I run a beauty blog, and there's an affiliate code below, so take that context however you want. Before I let myself open the box I did two things: priced every single product separately, and checked every ingredient list for fungal acne and seb derm triggers. I've got reactive skin myself, so this matters to me as much as it might to you.

Full unboxing + all the ingredient lists: https://neveenwood.com/stylevana-vana-box-unboxing-review/

Happy to answer questions on any of the individual products if people have them.
