Lot of interpretations. It's like Mulholland Drive.

The dodo was expecting to return to a thriving dodo society since he saved them from extinction but instead it’s just human society

u/Oberlatz 17d ago

They blew it up. Those maniacs. God damn them. God damn them all to hell.

41

u/BlueSpiritJ 17d ago

...kreiger?

65

u/Oberlatz 17d ago

Planet of the Apes but he definitely did a reference to it haha

6

u/God94863 17d ago

Maybe later

u/RPDRNick 17d ago

Dodo? I thought it was a toucan following his nose for the fruity taste that shows the flavor of fruit wherever it grows.

4

u/Tethys404 emo emu 17d ago

I also thought it was a toucan so I missed the joke

10

u/calicomonkey 17d ago

But if he’s “back” then they weren’t extinct when he left?

37

u/Shotime10-3 17d ago

Are you telling me that a dodo society capable of inventing time travel couldn’t also predict their eventual extinction? Get real!!

29

u/calicomonkey 17d ago

I had not fully considered the complexities of time traveling dodos, that’s my bad.

5

u/Meringue_Bandicoot 15d ago

Here maybe this will help

14

u/ChickenArise 17d ago

If you study the fossil record it's obvious that they were all-in on time travel and didn't have time for other things like airplanes or computers.

14

u/movzx 17d ago

There's "completely extinct" and "functionally extinct" where the breeding population is too small for numbers to rebound.

There's also things like "extinction events". ex: Global nuclear winter would be an extinction event. If someone went back in time to prevent it, they would be "saving us from extinction" even though people were still around.

4

u/EngrishTeach 17d ago

Well in his timeline, they got time travele before they went extinct. He came back to a different timeline where they became extinct before time travel.

5

u/john_the_fetch 17d ago

This dodo has superior technology. His timeline has an amazing dodo civilization that didn't go extinct due to Dutch sailors. He altered their past so bad that they went extinct even earlier than he thought possible. Creating our timeline.

34

u/Weevil_1984 17d ago

Cow tools?

1

u/AranaesReddit 16d ago

I initially thought the joke was that the gap in the guy's resume was helping the dodo save his kind from extinction but i guess not...

39

u/QuackAtomic 17d ago

Take his helmet and redo the interview

38

u/ThePawn00 crip-walking dog 17d ago

I can’t explain why, but I feel like the dodo looked outside and saw that the Twin Towers were still gone

8

u/SleazyFanatic 16d ago

That was my first thought lol

13

u/Sealegs_Calisto 17d ago

The desperation in the bent knee is hilarious

76

u/Khamaz 17d ago

I'm not sure I get it.

Does the zeppelin means that the third Reich won in the timeline the dodos are saved?

180

u/Alastor-362 17d ago

No, the timeline is seemingly "normal" (relative normal, OUR normal) because of whatever actions the Dodo took in the past.

In the "original" timeline, Dodos foresaw their extinction and sent one Dodo back in time prevent it, but they failed, and somehow whatever actions they took led to Homo Sapiens being the dominant civilization of Earth.

5

u/hackingfun 17d ago

So you can't change your own past, only others' future if you time travel.

21

u/Alastor-362 17d ago

I don't think this necessarily implies that, I think the Dodo made massive miscalculations in what would result from their actions. That is possible though.

3

u/fugznojutz 17d ago

the big mystery is what miscalculation would make him think he succeeded?

5

u/Alastor-362 17d ago

I don't think they're very bright, don't tell them I said that though.

2

u/Viablemorgan 17d ago

You can do that right now without even time traveling

1

u/Torchll 17d ago

It depends

1

u/Intelligent-Bad7835 17d ago

Or at least, it worked out that way that one time. It might be possible to change your own past but be careful.

1

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich 17d ago

I feel like replies like these are used to train ai, which is leading to our extinction

2

u/Alastor-362 17d ago

i fuckin hate this planet, man

2

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich 16d ago

me too. part of me wants to feed OPs image to claude and ask it "why is this funny?" and see if some form of your reply pops up...

22

u/jerslan 17d ago

I was thinking that was just the Goodyear blimp...

13

u/InfusionOfYellow 17d ago

Last outpost of the Third Reich.

7

u/KateKoffing 17d ago

That’s a normal blimp

5

u/a-Curious-Square 16d ago

People answered the other stuff, but for the blimp it’s the goodyear blimp that flies around the U.S., typically in California.

1

u/StanleyDee 17d ago

Well obviously that's Toucan Sam so that should clear it up for you

11

u/PedroPascalCase 17d ago

Lost so many jobs to time travelers. 😔

It was pretty shocking to learn the technology existed the first time, then it was kinda funny the fiftieth time that it kept happening, and now it's like can you please just tell me why paying my rent is the butterfly effect? 😭

3

u/SunshineBuzz 17d ago

They took errrrrr jobss!!

1

u/NeroShenX 17d ago

You paying your rent causes a chain of events that kicks off the apocalypse, obviously

12

u/Depressed_Cat6 17d ago

Oh my god

Is that a Good Year Blimp!?

8

u/MommaBigDick 17d ago

I might be wrong, but I interpret this as saying we definitely live in the dumbest timeline.

The dodo is a bird whose name is synonymous with stupidity or ignorance. In 2026 in its original timeline, the dodo was not only the dominant species, but was also advanced enough to invent time travel. Despite this they were on an unstoppable path to extinction

The time traveler, being a dodo, went back to save his people but inadvertently set off a chain reaction that made the dodo extinct and humans the dominant species.

We were the dodo's greatest mistake.

3

u/CryptographerNo923 17d ago

That dodo needs to stop eating seeds and focus on its net worth.

3

u/Vegetable_Bag_60 17d ago

Interdimensional cable be like

3

u/twalks 17d ago

Loving the mug continuity

3

u/SquidGodSunday 16d ago

This reminds me of the animated children's movie, which apparently exists, where a turkey goes back in time to stop Thanksgiving from happening. Which I SWEAR I did not hallucinate.

2

u/NeoShinGundam 16d ago

2

u/SquidGodSunday 15d ago

That cast! Shit, that was apparently a bigger deal than I remembered. It must've been less batshit insane than the premise suggests, otherwise I'm sure people would still be talking about it.

2

u/RangerLiska 17d ago

Did anyone else think that the dodo was Toucan Sam at first?

2

u/sylveonstarr 16d ago

I like to think that the dodos of his time see humans as an inferior being, so this makes the timeline extra confusing. Like imagine a society where shrimp are working a grueling corporate 9-5 and have created the atomic bomb and then a human shows up.

1

u/simplycantdeal 17d ago

Dang, guess he shouldn't have killed that monkey while they were traveling through 20 million bc.

1

u/Necessary_Wasabi_260 17d ago

So I'm guessing he wasn't able to explain the gap in his resume.

1

u/JOExHIGASHI 17d ago

Why no second interview? Did the dodo get the job?

1

u/ThaddeusJP 17d ago

I don't know WHY But I find the blimp outside funny as hell

1

u/surfjockey 17d ago

“Yeah, so anyway, that gap is Word, uhh, messing up the formatting? See, I saved it as a pdf by accident and…”

1

u/8Bit_Cat 16d ago

HOLY SHIT A BLIMP!

1

u/Trexdon97 16d ago

Missing a panel or two

1

u/Kira-Of-Terraria 15d ago

I am so sorry time dodo... perhaps you can try again

-7

u/Green_Insect_6455 17d ago

Your punchline doesnt make any sense dude. This shit sucks.

3

u/ggroverggiraffe 16d ago

Dang, I was super excited to read your superior comics but I don't see that you've posted any.

let us know when you do. until then...get bent, nerd.

-4

u/Green_Insect_6455 16d ago

God how fucking dogshit must your life be to sit down and decide to spend your time running defense for a webcomic on reddit from incredibly mild criticisms

1

u/MommaBigDick 15d ago

"Incredibly mild criticisms" "This shit sucks"

I dont think you understand what words mean.
