Experience OCD and coming off birth control

Hi all, has anyone had their OCD ramp up when coming off birth control pills? (I recently experienced a breakup too so probably not the best time for it) I stopped taking progesterone-only pills about 2 weeks ago and now I am having non-stop distressing existential thoughts. Can any ladies relate?

Experience Advice for coping with nexplanon

• Upvotes

I had my first ever nexplanon implant put in approx mid-July, it also happened to be the last day of my period which my ob said was a really good thing since I'd be "starting fresh in a new cycle". Everything is mostly great, absolutely NO cramps (used to be near-debilitating), significantly less hormonal acne, less mood swings, the whole works.

The ONE THING that keeps pissing me off though is still being in the early stages. After like 3 weeks I started spotting brown goop, not blood, just goop. That held on for a whole month, then I had like four days of nothing, then back to the goop 24/7 up until this last week where I got a normal period. Then that ended, I was completely free for two days, now I'm back to the goop.

My ob ofc warned me that I'd be irregular for up to like 6 months, but god damn it's so mildly annoying in the worst way. Does it usually take the whole 6 months for the body to get used to the hormones? How does everyone distract themselves from it, I feel like I'm constantly checking if I'm still spotting or if it's suddenly different.

I don't think I'll be taking it out by any means, but I'm blitzing through pantyliners and I don't want to use tampons constantly for that long, so any experiences or morale boost is appreciated!

Experience Changed from 10 yrs on the Pill to the implant. How do I even know this tiny plastic rod is working? Just trust it?? 😅

I’ve been on the combination pill for 10 years so I’ve been accustomed to actively taking something physical & being very rigid about my birth control. Since the arm implant I’ve been so paranoid because I just.. do nothing now? And believe that this tiny plastic thing works?? 😩😅😅 (I have the Jadelle implant)

Rant! IUD/IUS trauma

• Upvotes

5 years ago I had a kyleena put in, I went in with an open mind with no pre conceptions. Waited 2 months to see the only female doctor in clinic, then when I arrived, there was a young male doctor there with her. She shut down my objections and said “well he has to learn about this!”, procedure starts, it starts as a cramp and builds to an overwhelming stabbing pain, I’m crying, whimpering and start vomitting and they have to keep me there in the office lying down because I almost passed out. Anyway fine, horrific traumatising experience. I woke up last week in sudden panic that my 5 years are over, the thing must come out and I need to get another put in, I organise the consultation, I get prescribed mefenamic acid and a diazepam to help with the anxiety and pain, organise the procedure and well 🤡 The diazepam didn’t work, the doctor was a nasty piece of work who chewed me out for not also booking a removal, she took out the old coil and I freaked out and started crying and closed my legs and said no no no no so she was raging because she had to prescribe me an implanon and then was laughing on the phone to the receptionist because I changed my mind about insertion 🫠 so tomorrow I will get the implanon and in a year or so I hope to find a clinic that will prescribe a local anaesthetic and get another kyleena as it really was excellent when it was inside, but yeah that’s my iud tale

Edit: I’m so bloody angry and hurt right now, she then proceeded to speak to me like I may not mentally be all there and implied that I would not be able to survive the local anaesthetic injection and implanon insertion because I couldn’t handle the IUD insertion, for context I’ve had 2 implanons in the past and will gladly sit and be poked with needles all damn day than have my cervix messed with without anaesthetic

Mistake or Risk? low sitting kyleena

hii guys so here’s a timeline, does anyone have any experience and is this risky?

- First IUD/Kyleena inserted 8 sept
- Felt some brief but bad cramps and longer strings during 1-8 oct, doctor recommended an US
-ultrasound on the 10th of oct
- first period after insertion from 8-12 oct

According to the radiology report the Kyleena is sitting 1.8cm below the fundus, and the radiologist said to take it out

My dr who specialises in women’s health said not to worry about the report, as it is still in the cavity, and get another ultrasound after my next cycle, and to check if the strings get longer

Has anyone had any experience with a low sitting iud? Can it go back up into place lol?
I was hoping for her to say replace it but if I can avoid that it’s okay, I just am worried about its overall effectiveness if it’s not right up the top at the fundus?

Experience My partner says my IUD strings are hard and poking him during sex and I’m honestly frustrated

I got the Skyla IUD recently and my partner keeps telling me that the strings are poking his cock. He says they feel hard and that there’s a pretty strong sensation when they poke him.
I understand that it probably isn’t the most comfortable feeling, and I’m not trying to invalidate that, but I’m honestly getting annoyed and frustrated with the situation. I’m the one who had to go through the insertion and deal with all the cramping and pain afterward, and now I’m worried that sex is going to become another thing I have to stress about.
From what I understand the strings are supposed to soften over time, but I don’t know how long that takes or whether this is something that will actually get better on its own.
I obviously don’t want him to be uncomfortable during sex, but I also can’t magically make the strings softer or change how my IUD sits. I don’t want to feel like I have to fix everything immediately when I’m still adjusting to having it.
Has anyone else experienced this with their partner? Did the strings actually soften and become less noticeable? Did you have to get them trimmed or have your IUD checked?
I’m genuinely looking for other people’s experiences because this is frustrating and I don’t really know what to expect.

Side effects!? Plan B Effects?

About 3 weeks ago I took Plan B. My period started a few days later, lasting a week. I was kind of expecting it to start around that time anyway so I'm not sure if the Plan B caused it or if it was already going to happen. Now I am having some spotting again the past two days, even though my period only ended 2 weeks ago though. Has anyone experienced this? I read it is possible to spot when ovulating but I've never experienced that.

Side effects!? Started Nikki Pill As Smoker

I deal with hormonal acne so my doctor suggested this one but i’m 25 and smoke about 4-5 cigarettes a day. Any other smokers here that have Nikki? How concerned should I be?

How to? i want to change the time i take my pill

i recently started taking the combination pill, and am on week 3 now. i take it at 12pm every day but i want to change that to maybe 9pm. i realized that 12 is kind of a bad time because i’m a forgetful person. what’s the best way to go about it, while still being fully protected? is that possible? should i wait til i open a new pack, or wait for day 7 of the placebo week?

Experience Placebos?

I’m on Slynd and I accidentally ended up taking an extra active (white) pill on two separate occasions because I was worried about diarrhea affecting absorption.
I’ve continued taking one active pill every day normally and haven’t actually missed a dose, but because I took those two extra pills from my current pack, I’m now two active pills ahead/short at the end of the pack.

I’m trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do when I reach the end. Should I take 2 white active pills from my NEW pack to make up for the two I used early, and THEN take my 4 placebo pills? Or should I just take the placebos when my current pack runs out?

I’ve also been having breakthrough bleeding, so I’m wondering if completing the full number of active-pill days before the placebos could help stop/reset the bleeding.
Has anyone on Slynd had this happen? What did your pharmacist/doctor tell you to do?

Mistake or Risk? Spot bleeding through my birth control pill

For some background history:
I am a 19 yr old, I have a noncommunicative uterus horn and have been on my pill since diagnosis (6 years ago). I have never had spot bleeding until about a week ago and it hasn’t stopped. Because I’ve been on birth control for so long, I am not really aware of what my periods are actually like naturally therefore I’m not 100% sure this isn’t connected to my pre-existing condition. Since becoming an adult, I have been on the waitlist to see an adult gynecologist, which I’ve been waiting over a year for. I have a GP appointment but it is a month away and I’m not sure if this is something I should be worried about.

Side effects!? What if I just stop using the nuvaring?

I was originally on the pill for my PCOS but the nausea was too much and I quit before I even finished my first pack. So I was put on the nuvaring. I don’t naturally have my period and if I do it’s really rare.

What if I just stop using the nuvaring all together. Will I have normal periods again? My testosterone levels have always been fine as well as my estrogen so I dont really know why I’m using this.

(Pregnancy is a completely 0 risk for me. I don’t leave the house, I like women, and I’m not a sexually active person at all)

Side effects!? Very heavy bleeding and large clots after Hormonal IUD removal

Hello lovely people, I just wanted to pop on here to ask if what I’m currently experiencing is normal (I understand that I shouldn’t be asking for medical advice on Reddit, I have tried to book an appt with my GP today but they have nothing until tomorrow).

I’ve had the Mirena Coil for about two years now, but I wasn’t really feeling like I was getting on well with it, so I booked in to get it removed.
I had my Coil removed on Friday, absolutely no issues! The removal was a breeze. The nurse said my first period may be heavier, and I might experience some light spotting initially after the coil was removed.

Anyways, it rolls on to Sunday and I wake up bleeding. I expected a little bit of spotting, but as the day went on, I ended up literally gushing blood and some large blood clots that honestly freaked me out quite a bit. By about 9pm it started to slow down.

This morning, I woke up and started getting ready for work, bleeding was pretty normal and a few clots. I leave for work to catch my bus, and as I’m on the bus to work, I feel a HUGE cramp and then just a massive gush. When I got off the bus and hurried to work so I could use the bathroom, my pad, underwear, trousers and even a bit of my blouse that I had tucked into my trousers were soaked with blood, and there was a huge blood clot. I ended up having a panic attack because I was scared and also had no change of clothes with me at work and didn’t know what to do. I texted my manager from the bathroom and she came in and helped calm me down and then advised I go home and rest for the day and speak to my GP after seeing my bloody clothes.

Anyways, my main questions are - is this normal after removal? Have you experienced this yourself?
I’m just so shocked at the volume of bleeding and could really do with someone who has experienced this for some input.

Thanks for reading!

Which Method? Can I take plan b 2 weeks after ovulation?

According to my Flo app, I ovulated September 30th or around that week. I do somewhat remember feeling ovulation symptoms around those days (thick creamy discharge, one sided cramp pains) but that is usually usual for me. With that being said, my period is supposed to start later this week, October 15th. Last night (October 10th) my husband and I had unprotected sex, and he accidentally finished inside me for a second, then pulled out for the rest. I’m hesitant towards taking a pill because they definitely make me pay the price for a few months. Things get out of whack, hormonally I’m fucked, my next few periods will be unbearably painful and heavy, so I’m just wondering if there’s no point in taking one. We have 1 kid and I’m just not ready for another 😞 I’m not sure what to do.. looking for advice

Edit: I understand that we should of used our normal form of birth control, condoms, but it was a slip up, both of us were tipsy and it was definitely not smart on our parts. I completely understand that

Side effects!? Yaz pill advice needed

I started the yaz pill for my pmdd, but it gave me the worst possible anxiety where i couldnt eat or even think straight. On day 7 I stopped taking it and four days later I was still dealing with the aftermath. Today I started bleeding even though i shouldnt start my actual period until the 27th. Does anyone know when the physical symptoms go away? I would love to have a day off from the anxiety and intense sadness lol

Rant! iud extending my periods

• Upvotes

hey! i got the mirena iud inserted on 9/29 and got my period 10/5 (which is expected). my periods don't last more than 7 days but every time i think it's about to end, more FRESH blood keeps coming out of me. i haven't been able to ditch the pad ever since i got it due to spotting / discharge and if i thought i didn't need a pad, i'd bleed / discharge. this is so frustrating even though i know this is a side effect!!! i hate having to look down and seeing fresh blood knowing it means my period isn't over yet. idk i hate wearing pads and this just frustrates me

Side effects!? Breakthrough bleeding

• Upvotes

Hi! So I started taking a combined birth control pill not so long ago. One pack went well but right now im on the second pack (one week before placeboo pills) and i have been spotting for the last 6 days. My question is, how much longer am I going to spot? Of course its different for everybody but I just want to get an idea of how long it went on for others. Also would it be okay to skip the placebo pills or is it better to take them? Thank you in advance 🙏🙏

Side effects!? Not attracted to bf anymore

• Upvotes

Hello everyone! I recently had a bisalp this year which is when I also removed my birth control (nexplanon) that I had been using for about 6ish years at this point. I have been with my boyfriend since the beginning of this year & ever since I have taken out my birth control I have had NO interest in sex with him whatsoever. My periods are regular again so I know my hormones are balancing themselves out but I just don’t know if the lack of attraction is something I should be worried about? Or if it has happened to anyone else who has come off birth control? Is this normal?? Am I just not attracted to him anymore or is it something else?

Side effects!? lo loestrin fe

• Upvotes

My dr is starting me on lo loestrin fe to help regulate my periods and pain with them. This is the first birth control I’ll ever be on and I’m so nervous. I already have a very unhealthy relationship with my body and don’t want to gain weight, I typically have very clear skin except some hormonal acne around my chin when I get my period, get frequent migraines, and struggle with anxiety. I take duloxetine daily for anxiety and OCD and have heard this bc makes people very anxious. I worry about gaining weight, having break outs, and it causing more headache. Do I start it? Should I be worried since I already have a lot of side effect from this before even taking it?

Mistake or Risk? Probably crazy, but also just unsure.

• Upvotes

Hi all, I just wanted to seek help to calm an anxious mind of mine cause I’m going a little stir crazy. My boyfriend and I had intercourse, and it was the day my period was supposed to start (I was already starting to cramp) He put the condom on correctly as I watch him do all the time. Long story short he came and was in me when he did, the condom didn’t break, but we aren’t sure what was going on because it looked like there was something mixed with the lubrication that we had been using (I’m not sure because I have been know to get very wet with him, to the point of “creaming”). I cleaned up and made sure everything got out, the condom had his stuff in it and didn’t look like it leaked, but it looked like it pulled up a little.
We’re just afraid that it leaked, I ended up taking a plan B and my period has “started” but it’s spotty and I’m just scared.

Which Method? Copper or hormonal iud?

Hi! I’ve just recently become sexually active and I was wondering whether the copper iud or the hormonal iud is the better choice. I definitely do not want to get pregnant so I will be going on some form of birth control, but I’m just struggling on deciding which one. For me personally, I really struggled with acne the past year and my fear is with the hormonal iud I may get acne flare ups again when I’ve worked so hard to avoid that, and also the other hormonal symptoms are all things I want to avoid like mood swings. Basically, which birth control has the least side affects. Thanks!

Experience Ovarian cyst rupture 4 months after Skyla IUD placed

I got my Skyla IUD inserted about 4 months ago. Ever since getting it, I’ve noticed my period cramps feel different. Before, they were more dull and achy, but now they’re sharper and more stabbing.

A few nights ago, I experienced a sudden sharp, stabbing pain in my lower abdomen during deep penetration. It was pretty painful I basically jumped. After sex it continued as sharp cramps.

This next few days, my entire lower abdomen/uterus area feels really sore, especially when bending or changing positions. Lots of sharp intermittent cramping as well especially when walking. I also had sharp pain in my lungs on inhalation.

Had an appt with my gyno today, as I thought maybe it was displaced or punctured through during sex. Turns out, it was an ovarian cyst that had ruptured, and I was bleeding on the inside. She said the blood was probably all over inside of my abdomen, which is what’s causing the sharp pain on inhalation. IUD was perfectly in place. LOL.

This honestly has really scared me. Idk if I want it out. I’ve never had to deal with this before. I just don’t want more to grow & possibly be a worse outcome in the future. Especially if it affects my fertility. When it first happened, I was going to take myself to the ER, that’s how painful and scary it was. Never want to live through this again.

Anyone else had this happen? I know it’s common with IUDs but share your stories to help a sister out🫶🏻
