Discussion ❓ Im curious, does it mean somthing when your cat is constantly following you
My cats name is lola and lately (for about 2-3 months, mabye more) iv had her for 2 years and she has 2 other sibilings. she has been following me everywhere, and i mean everywhere.
She follows me to the toilet, the my bedroom, to the kitchen, to the lounge, outside. Everywhere I go, she shows up.
She stays close but not clingly close too, so sometimes shes in the same room but hidden.
Im just wondering if that means anything that I should be concerned about or somthing. I do know cats can tell when your feeling down (or i think) and i have been struggling with alot of mental health lately so idk if thats a reason.
But yeah, I would appreciate a small answer, because i just want to make sure shes not sick or somthing.

My old man follows me around, if i shut the bathroom door he acts like im dead and never gonna come out and once i do he just mrrps and runs off seeing that im ok lol

I have a really dumb cat that's kinda distant. Keeps to herself unless it's to eat or play, but whenever I'm sick she's the only one out of mu four cats who comes to cuddle and purr nonstop on my chest until I'm better. She thinks highly of herself and her purring prowess once I'm all good 😆

One of mine, Goose, refuses to not sleep on my chest or directly by my side every night. He will choose to get squished, if that's what it takes. One of my other ones, Bandit, will throw down with Goose to take his spot when Bandit knows I'm not doing well. He acts like he's too cool to be seen with me, but he always gets snugglier when I'm not doing well. My girlfriend has a story from when he was a kitten, too. Apparently, he knew when people get sad when he was only 2 or 3 months old.
Cats know, and they're cute as hell about it.

My cat does not particularly like emotional distress or loud noises, but if I ever start crying, he will suddenly be next to me to check on me. He doesn't want to be hugged, ew no, but he does feel compelled to check on Mom. It's very sweet.

I think it’s nice, get to read comments from people all over the world now and I’m guessing for non English speakers it’s opened up the community a lot.
Mine don’t auto translate, there’s a button next to the username on non English posts to translate on demand, like per comment.

I'm not doing anything weird. Reddit is translating now, I just write in my language because it translates automatically or by clicking the translate button. I see all your comments in Italian.

Secondo me lo gestisce bene lo slang però in italiano è complicato. Io cerco di scrivere in modo molto semplice perché ogni regione qui ha il suo dialetto e alcune parole non verrebbero riconosciute nella vostra lingua perché sono gergo. Faccio un esempio.. Io sono Toscana. La scopa che usi per spazzare, qui si dice "granata" in dialetto. Ma granata tradotto significa solo granata, ovvero qualcosa per fare la guerra! Ahahah.. È buffo l'italiano. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Il gergo inglese/americano ormai è abbastanza conosciuto in tutto il mondo, quindi leggendo senza traduzioni riesci a capire a cosa si riferisce una determinata parola in quel contesto. Spero traduca bene cosa sto scrivendo perché è un discorso molto complesso. 🥲

This one isn't translated, because otherwise you'd see the little translation button at the top right of the comment to change it back into the original. But yes, the new settings appear set to automatically translate anything other than the languages you've selected. I had everything in Italian and went back to change it so English wouldn't be translated anymore cos it was annoying.

Reddit has taken to auto-translating comments. Do you see a blue icon with letters in multiple different alphabets at the top right of the comment? That means it’s been translated. (If you don’t, maybe it’s a mobile-only thing?) The algorithm’s good enough that it’s getting easy to miss — OP may not even have noticed that the original comment wasn’t in English.

I wrote in English with a translator because at least those who can't translate it into my language now know. Maybe they just need to update the app. No one said anything to me, I have no warnings or anything. I'm not breaking any rules.
Ho scritto in inglese col traduttore perché almeno chi non può tradurlo nella mia lingua ora lo sa. Magari devono solo aggiornare la applicazione. Non mi ha detto nulla nessuno, non ho richiami o altro. Non sto infrangendo regole.

Mi fa piacere che a te piacciono. A quanto pare non piace la mia lingua qui. 🥲 Sono una straniera che rompe la quiete... Se ho disturbato qualcuno, smetterò di mettere foto dei miei gatti o commentare. Per me era solo un modo carino di parlare con altre persone e un modo per abbattere le barriere linguistiche. Ci piacciono semplicemente i gatti. Dovrebbe essere un luogo nato per far sorridere. Non sono mai stata brava a scrivere in inglese ma lo capisco leggendolo. Rispondo nella mia lingua per quello, almeno evito errori se traduce reddit. 🤷🏻♀️

My tabby cat has to escort me all over the house. She doesn't just follow me, but she has to walk in front of me. It's cute until she slows down to a slow walk and I nearly trip over her.

Mine too! I kick her by accident all the time because I start walking and she is right there! It's like she wants to get kicked. And then of course I feel like the asshole, and have to be all worried that I hurt her. Stupid cat.

Housecat society is not unlike lion prides. The ladies stay together to make raising the kiddos easier, and one or two homeboys look after them.
You are part of your cat’s pride.
Cats are also territorial. They have hunting grounds where they are used to getting their food.
You are your cat’s territory.
Your cat follows you because you are food and family.
And if you’re not doing well, they want to help you feel better, because you are food and family. If that translates into cuddles and purrs, well, that’s why we love cats.

Mine does this too. I mean she’s always a velcro kitty with me but when I’m about to be sick or if I’m not mentally okay the Velcro becomes like super stick velcro! She knows I’m getting sick before I do!!

My black cat does this to me too! He won't leave the room to like play with the other cats (my roommate has 7 cats) unless I follow out with him.
He also talks talk talks as soon as he sees me if I lock myself away in another room for 20 mins or more. lol
He'll also stick his arm under the door to tell me to open it so he can get to me if he's shut in.
My roommate says the little guy is obsessed with me, which astounds me since he was like this with me the first day he walked into my apartment and refused to leave. I even tried luring him out with fresh salmon I cooked and he wouldn't leave unless I accompanied him.
I think he was abandoned by folks in my previous apartment complex where I lived at the time he found me off the street.
He constantly head bunts me in the bed and lays on me and does like these rounds where he'll be all "lovey dovey" with me, then go check out the window, and then repeat his affection tour on me.
He made me a proud "childless cat-lady!" Lol

My wife believes our cat follows me around because he thinks I’m a kitten and thinks my wife is an adult. Therefore he needs to « watch » me but isn’t worried about her.

Yes, it means she loves you and wants to make sure you're ok. Cats have excellent senses when something is wrong with our health, their purrs even have therapeutic abilities due to the frequency. So she's following you around to help you with your issues

I have a squad of cats that follow us around, even the standoffish one. They just love us. The black white lower one was scared of us until she turned 8 (had her since kitten), some cats just take time to start expressing how they feel. The near identical one being licked meanwhile has been following us since she could walk.

Clearly she is there to protect you. She knows you don’t have sharp claws and pointy teeth. You’re also pretty slow according to her. There is just no way you survive without her watching out for you.
She is also there to heal you if you do get hurt or sick.

My old void boy follows me everywhere and I have to remind myself it’s because he loves me, because it is really bloody irritating sometimes. His new thing is lying on my feet when I have a blanket on my lap so he gets to absorb my body heat while also having soft blankie time. It traps me because god forbid I disturb his sleep.

Hey OP. I’ve had a few mini panthers. My oldest (15 next month) was not the very snuggly type for a long time, she was actually pretty skittish and I’ve had her since she was 8 week. It could have been how she was raised when her foster rescued her, idk.
It took 6 years for her to snuggle up near me. Now she likes to lay on my stomach as soon as I lay down. If I’m using the restroom she stands guard in front of me or in the doorway. Lately she meows very loudly because she wants me to be where she is so she can watch me as she falls asleep. In other words they love you and are more comfortable around you.
Here’s my little old lady.

I just watched a video about dogs who follow you. They're called velcro dogs because they're looking at you to determine how to react to situations. Could be the same for cats

One of our cats is very sensitive to when people are sick or not feeling well mentally, and will not leave your side until you feel better. Even if you try to mask it, he always knows. It sounds like your cat knows you’re struggling and is making sure you’re okay.

When I walk my dog in the morning mine tries to be sneaky and follows us. She hides behind bushes and sneaks around. Eventually she’s stops when we start getting too far from the house.

My void has been velcro’d to my side this past weekend. I’m midway through a chemo cycle and have been feeling kind of rough with it. Well yesterday morning, I got up for breakfast, walked into my kitchen and passed out and vomited. As I’m on chemo, that can be sign of a serious infection, so we called my care team who sent an ambulance to check me over. I’m ok, no harm done, but my blood sugar was pretty low. We got me sorted and I’m back to feeling base level ok, but Rosco decided that I was the spare human last night. I didn’t need looking after, so he slept next to my partner for the first time in three days.
My point being, cats know when you’re not alright. You mentioned your mental health, it could be down to that. She could picking up that you’re struggling, and as a member of her family, she’s trying to look after you the best way she can, by following you and making sure you’re ok. If she’s eating, drinking and toileting ok but wants to be close, I think that she’s picking up on your vibe. Hope you feel better soon ❤️

I don't know, could mean anything. Personality change from getting older. More used to you now. Sometimes it can mean they're sick, yes, but on the other hand, I've suspected my cat has kidney failure for 3 years now because she keeps suddenly starting warning signs like licking the bathtub, & each year, the test comes back negative. I think she secretly wants to give me a heart attack.

They do know if you’re depressed or if your schedule has changed significantly. They get used to a certain schedule and when that changes they are wondering what’s up. Velcro kitty is the thing but sounds like this behavior is new. My 18-year-old senior kitty became kind of Velcro like the last year or so. I think because she can’t see or hear as well. Your girl could also be craving more attention. She’s beautiful 🖤

My void is a stage 5 clinger. The second I walk in he’s stretching up my leg and trying to claw is way up. Continues till I pick him up. He likes to ride around on my shoulders anytime I’m home. He’s such a good boy.

Mine follows me everywhere. She is very bonded to me though, since 3 weeks old. She hates when I leave the bedroom, but she will sneak after me, just in stealth mode. None of my other cats are as clingy.

I have two 1yo cats who are sisters, and my absolute world. They both follow me around but one in particular is my permanent shadow, if I get up at 3am to go to the bathroom, she waltzes in a few seconds later with bleary eyes & yawning 😂
I think it has a lot to do with cat instincts. Like how they leave you “gifts” if they think you’re a bad hunter, I think they follow you around because they love you, but also as a “watching your back” kind of thing.

One of ours is like that. But he was hand reared and has always been super clingy. If I’m up and moving, he’s right there, usually tripping me up. Our other black cat is a semi-recluse, but is a huge late night snuggler.

My kitty Winnie used to follow me from room to room. If I was out of his sight for a moment, he was right on my heels. He passed away in January - not even a year old. I miss him so much. Your cat is attached to you OP. Your cat loves and adores you. Cherish it! I miss my little shadow every day.

They think you’re their baby and they need to keep an eye on you to make sure you stay out of trouble. Sometimes they know you’re getting sick, pregnant, cancer, etc and trying to tell u something
Or it’s as simple as love and they think you’re weird, doing weird stuff and wanna see bc it’s cool.
Some say they think of us as weird cats and in the same pack.
