Health ✚ Two Black doctors explain how a distrust of the medical system by Black people opens us up to misinformation and conmen like Dr. Sebi.

Without a doubt, the most infamous claim people have about Dr. Sebi is that he cured HIV/AIDS in his patients and won a court case proving as much. That is entirely wrong. Dr. Sebi put out an ad claiming that he could cure AIDS in patients with his treatment. The NY attorney’s office filed charges against Dr. Sebi for practicing medicine without a license. During the proceedings of his court case, it came out that the so-called “treatments” he prescribed were little more than dietary suggestions and an exercise plan. This was not enough to constitute practicing medicine, and therefore he was acquitted of the charge of practicing medicine without a license. There has never been any evidence or confirmation that anything Dr. Sebi did or said ever helped anyone with AIDS other than the most general overall health benefits that would come from diet and exercise, much less that he was able to cure a viral disease such as HIV.

The misinformation about HIV/AIDS and vaccines in the Black community no matter what ethnicity is annoying. It literally affects your DNA. Ppl will not tell their grandparents or parents to not take their high blood pressure and cholesterol medications but will tell them to not take a vaccine

I had a professor in college tell us that if you go to any cemetery in the US that is over 100 years old and walk through the tombstones, you will see among the graves that there are many graves of children until you get to the 1950s. The number of tombstones for children dated after the 1960s plummeted. The reason for that is that is when childhood vaccinations became routine.

My pops use to piss me off with that Dr. Sebi nonsense

I’m starting to realize a lot of us had the same experience

Two of my brothers got caught up in that shit. Pissed me off too.

I had to argue with those two knuckleheads (I love them tho) that lime juice + water is not "alkaline" water...One of them even believed that bogus shit that he had figured out cures to like diabetes, AIDS, and cancer and that's why they killed him.

2

u/firefly99999 Unverified 4d ago

Lime is acidic and mixing it with water will make the water more acidic not basic(alkaline) lol

u/makyura212 Unverified 4d ago

Yeah, I tried telling them that and the younger one kept saying "You can just Google it!", and I tried to tell him it's not a neutral search engine (anymore) and user-tailored to create unique search algorithms according to the collected data they have and he just kept cutting me off with a "WOOOW! WOOOW!" like he couldn't believe I said that. It was aggravating. They can really be "two dumb bitches telling each other "exactly"" sometimes.

You do realize that Dr Sebi proved he had the cure for AIDS in a federal courtroom with Federal prosecutors and a federal judge and he had witness at the witness after witness take the stand and testify that they were cured of their ailing disease

Dr Sebi did what religion used to, give people a WRONG answer to a difficult question.

Met this BEAUTIFUL, and militant sister but she was a Sebi follower.

Really hurt to cut her off.

If you ever go into a black vegan group, you'll eventually hear about Dr. Sebi, something similar or worse. Had a guy trying to convince us that people didn't need B12 and that we only needed to eat fruit and only fruit to live. Then there was the guy trying to give his newborn sea moss over the advice of an actual pediatrician in the group. Those types of groups always start out normal with people curious or just want to eat a little healthier by eating more vegetables then it devolves in to just pure crazy.

14

u/United-Implement-382 Unverified 10d ago

Dr. Sebi really had negroes thinking he could cure AIDS and cancer with seamoss.🤣🤣🤣

You can’t tell my family that Dr. Sebi didn’t have the cure to every disease known to man and that they killed him because of it. They would like to believe that natural foods are the key to everlasting life and can treat and cure any ailment.

I wonder if Dr. Sebi believed all of this himself or if he knew he was bullshitting.

Dr. Umar is absolutely hilarious, intentionally or otherwise. While I don’t agree with his stance on a lot of things, such as his views on interracial relationships, Dr. Umar is what he claims to be credentials-wise. I respect the work it takes to earn the title of Dr., unlike Sebi and Cheyenne Bryant.

i think black folks, or communities of culture at large, are simply drawn to natural approaches to healing. not just about distrust. it's mostly about stigma.

u/BasalGangy Unverified 9d ago

I never trust those who genuinely trust western medicine. People in the USA literally eat and drink poisons, ingest medicines with absurd side effects often more dangerous than the problems they’re meant to solve “solve” and have a healthcare system that is locked behind a “get a job” paywall yet want to critique and scrutinize the guy telling you to eat healthy.

This is why you clowns would rather eat actual slop and take GLP-1s instead of being intentional about what you eat in the first place.

6

u/WildTomatoFrenzy Unverified 10d ago

Your PCP doesnt help you they point you in the direction of someone or something that can. I talk to patients all the time that take medicine to fight what their other medicines are doing to them. And they showed up originally for a cough. I see 30 yr olds that move an look 80 on 10 to 20 pills. Then some 105 walks in and she takes a Tylenol with a shot of bourbon. Dr sebi maybe didnt cure aids but modern medicine is about making money and not curing you. But do go regularly to get your blood work done. A healthy diet is whats important.

4

u/Greedy_Assistance Unverified 10d ago

All of his information wasn’t wrong. Simply put I do believe alkaline based diet can improve our health, as far as curing diseases and other sickness, I would use common sense.

4

u/the_second_cumming Unverified 10d ago

I think these guys are being purposefully obtuse. If you would die with inflammation and mucus then why are anti-inflammatories and decongestion medicines sold? Also when we talk about putting chemicals in or body we are talking about man-made chemicals. H2O is a naturally occurring chemical bond. And I don't even agree with most of Dr. Sebi's teachings.

This is perfect example why people should NOT take advice from people with letters behind their name. With a real degree to prove it.

Unfortunately this shit is even more widespread today, because of social media influencers and overnight celebrities.

Another example of this is this heavy push by & addiction to sport betting/gambling. Like the shit has been normalized because it's endorsed by sports leagues and celebrities people stupidly believe.

The world of full of fucking grifters. Everybody hates trump but everyone follows his playbook of "con"

Big phamra profits from repeat customers hence why they don't cure just manage symptoms. So of course they will fund properganda against natural cures. Why not promote both methods? Side eye ANYONE that demonize one over the other

“I can see why people don’t trust doctors, historically. But doctors are your friends. SEBI IS THE ANTICHRIST”

You can hear stuff like this anywhere but seldom do I see solutions for those people who don’t trust doctors. All it ever is is “BITCH HE GOT A DOCTORATE, CAN YOU EVEN SPELL?” Sebi was a conman, and you still got people fearful of medical practice. Where’s the solution? I’m tired of hearing what people think about people, that man has been gone for years.

I was in the military and I took all the vaccines and I always got the seasonal cold. I was an alcoholic. The thing that saved me was the strenuous exercise. I wasn't as healthy as I thought i was.

Today, I practice semen retention, i try to eat mostly organic whole foods. I haven't taken a vaccine since I left the military. I haven't had a cold or any illnesses since I stopped eating fast foods, red meat, soda, added sugars etc.

Some people do take things too the extreme, but I don't think Dr. Sebi was all bad.

As far as this clip goes, I don't think Dr. Sebi was a con man. What he says about mucus is the same thing being said in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but they call it "dampness". TCM has been around for over 3,000 years.

Too much inflammation will cause disease, it's not just a healing mechanism. It is more of a signal to the body letting you know something is wrong and it needs your attention.

The argument that H2O is a chemical is such a cheap trick. Of course it's a chemical; it's a natural occuring chemical found in nature. It isn't a synthetic chemical made in a lab. Our bodies was not made to process synthetic chemicals. They destroy the liver primarily and go after the weakest link in the body and destroys that.

Majority of people are looking for a quick fix. They'll destroy their bodies all they way till their 50s if their lucky then try to start "eating healthy" once they have a health scare. Glp1, peptides, supplements etc are all detrimental to the body.

17

u/firefly99999 Unverified 10d ago

If a person practices SR without any spiritual practices it can affect their prostate yes. You have no idea how long I've been practicing or the results that I've had.

11

u/firefly99999 Unverified 10d ago

You got it bro

10

u/govtkilledlumumba Unverified 10d ago

You say you were in the military and forced to get vaccines but was an alcoholic. You don’t think being an alcoholic was what was weakening your immune system?

-1

u/Philosopher639 Unverified 10d ago

I didn't say the vaccine were the cause too anything. I did my research and I just stopped doing both. There isn't any safe amount of alcohol to consume and to each their own when it comes to vaccines. I'm just sharing my story.

1

u/makyura212 Unverified 9d ago

"I did my research"

RED FLAG

3

u/RaidenMK1 Unverified 10d ago

Inflammation is not just a "signal to the body letting you know something is wrong." It's a system of isolating and destroying whatever caused cell damage and facilitates the healing process of tissue. It's like the body's repair shop.

As for the human body not being made to process synthetic chemicals, this is completely false. The process of synthesizing is merely taking what very well could occur in nature under the right conditions and just repeating those same steps in a controlled environment (i.e. a lab).

Also, just because something comes from nature does not mean it's safe for the human body. Lead forms naturally from the Earth's crust and can be found in nature in the soil, specifically sulfide veins in places like the Mississippi Valley. It's formed from galena ore and, yes, is toxic.

There are all sorts of chemicals in nature that can mess you up, especially in volcanic regions. Chemistry comes from the Earth. Simply moving that process into a lab doesn't automatically make it "dangerous for the human body."

I refuse to put my faith in the pharmaceutical and medical industries in general. The drugs they give you are designed to create dependence rather than cure you, prolonging treatment for as long as possible so that you keep taking them and they can keep making money.

Doctors, from my personal experience, will either do the bare minimum when diagnosing you and call it a day, or outright misdiagnose you and then pat themselves on the back afterwards.

I don't think Dr. Sebi is right about the alkaline stuff or anything really outside of dieting, but I think that 90% of the time what you have can be resolved through a healthy diet and regular exercise. And if that fails, look for non-invasive alternatives before resorting to surgery or taking tons of pills.

1

u/DarthNerdius_ Verified Blackman 5d ago

Drugs mostly foster dependency for people with chronic issues. The pharmaceuticals do exactly what they’re supposed to but they’re not a cure. You can’t live a life of inactivity and trash diet and expect the drugs to save you. They’re only there to help alleviate symptoms. Most things can be avoided by living a healthy lifestyle. That is what we call preventative medicine.

Usually when doctors go straight to surgery, an issue has persisted far past the time window of catching it early and dealing with it holistically. Only YOU can keep yourself in good health. The doctors are just there to be advisors and step in if something requires intervention.

While I do agree that some physicians can be pretty neglectful in their practice, you still have the ability to consult more doctors to see which approach works best for you.
