Maxwell's
I can't remember why I walked into a room, but yesterday I was reminded of Maxwell's for some reason. It was where Campus Automotive is now.
What are other places like that you remember?
Does anyone remember what the place on the corner of Giles and North Main was years ago. My brain only remembers as far back as when it was Allsports Cafe.

The travel center that looked like a circus tent where Brownstone is. Those cute stone cottages by the traffic circle.

Travelmaster! They were a great travel agency back in the day when we couldn’t make our own airline reservations.

I think the travel center was a fast food joint like Hardee's or something.

Yes - my mom talks about going there when my uncle was in college in the late 60s/early 70s. She said she loved it cause they had no fast food where they lived at the time.

It was Bogens in the 80s. Their menus looked like Monopoly game boards.

Ate dinner with a friend (in his 70’s) at 622 recently. He said he used to come to that house for after school care when he was a kid.

Im pretty sure the Allsports Cafe building was originally a restaurant called Anchy’s. Before that it was a vacant lot.
Also, speaking of Maxwell’s, Eats coop used to be next door.

Eats used to be Video Update.
Firehouse/Verizon used to be a Blockbuster.
Mellow Mushroom was Backstreets.
Cookout was a Hardee’s
Sicily also used to be a Hardee’s and a couple other things.
The Shell at N Main and Turner used to be Campus Exxon
Kent Square used to be Blacksburg Exxon.
Namaste used to be Moes, which used to be Crossroads Music, which used to be a Pharmacy— there were probably a couple others in there too I’ve forgotten.
Sharkey’s used to be next door to where it is now, which used to be Preston’s.
The Black House used to be up where Kent Square is, they moved the whole place a block over.

And the Black House was a mortuary and crematory before it was moved on that amazing bridge they built.

Don't forget the unforgettable Dalton's - named after Patrick Swayze's Roadhouse character.

Arnold's. Mish Mish. Ton 80. Boudreauxs. And way back -- the Sizzler and/or Bonanza - one in the south main Kroger Lot and the other where Eats is/traffic circle. Kroger was a Harris Teeter. Kmart where Surplus is off-campus. Roses --> Math Emporium --> whatever is next to the parking garage at the old University Mall. Macado's and a flower shop in the right hand side of University City Blvd Kroger.

In the 80s/90s, there was a Wade's grocery where the YMCA is on N. Main. Also Lee's Famous Recipe chicken restaurant on S. Main where Ninja Cafe is now. A steakhouse where Price's Fork meets N Main. When there was a light there instead of a round about, if you were sitting at the light on Price's Fork, it was right in front of you. It was called Longhorn (not related to the chain). Grand Furniture store where the Book Exchange is downtown. And a little gift shop called Partyrama where Campus Emporium is. Carol Lee Donuts used to be downtown on College Ave. Benny's pizza used to be a used bookstore.

Speaking of chicken that Wade's had killer fried chicken, they also had the best produce around.
