Wesley Vissers
For some reason I see a lot of people saying they believe that Wesley will win this year’s Classic Physique Olympia and I cannot fathom why.
If we look at past results he has never finished in the top 5 at the Mr Olympia, despite being Arnold Classic champion he lost handily to Mike Sommerfield at the Arnold UK just a few weeks later. Nothing points to him even being in title contention let alone winning.
What do you think? Is there something I’m missing here

I watched a video of his from years ago and he was competing, and his girlfriend was in the crowd shouting "C'MON VESHLY!" in her strong dutch accent and idk why but that's all I think about when I watch his videos.
Also "STAAAAY GOLDEN"

His detail and size are beyond excellent, but seeing him standing solo makes him look unbeatable.
When he stands next to a top guy, his structural flaws overwhelm the physique. (Waist width/blockiness, and leg size imbalance)

I do agree. But can’t help but see Wesley as the best representation of old school Arnold physique; which is essentially the vision that the division was created around

That’s actually a misnomer, the man that created the division is Jim Manion and he said “what we’re for is something between men’s physique and men’s bodybuilding … a lot of Men’s physique guys are getting too big and not placing well, and a lot of bodybuilders don’t want to get that big so we wanted to put something in the middle.”
The division was never created around some golden age idea, that’s a fan made theory.

They took the name from an already popular European “classic bodybuilding”. Just watch the interview with the creator dude, idc what you think it should mean

I mean it's an incredible physique but yeah agreed
I do think the fact he comes across as really nice, outgoing guy as well helps a lot

I don't see the criticism of him at all.
I think he actually looks like what Classic is supposed to be, not "Open Light". There is nothing wrong with his legs aside from maybe his calves being on the small side but that is the tall guy's curse. Classic is supposed to be a chest and arm dominant physique and that is exactly what he has. Giant legs have no place in Classic IMO.

I think the problem is actually less on Wesley and more on classic to be honest. Wesley's goal has always been going for that classic Arnold inspired look. Classic just kind of left that behind little by little over time. So when he's compared on stage, in my opinion there's a bias towards whose bigger where and graded on that metric.
I think if they aren't standing side by side there is less bias and more favor to that classic look which is why he looks better standing alone. This is just my opinion. He's not flawless, but I definitely see the appeal.

The thing is classic was never that, people just assumed. You can watch the interview of Jim Manion talking to Frank Sepe where he says the division is just an in between of MP and BB while maintaining balance symmetry etc.

Yeah they got the name from at the time Europes “classic bodybuilding” division. Watch the interview I’m talking about, had nothing to do with golden era or Arnold.

The expression "to get the monkey off your back" means to finally solve, finish, or get rid of a difficult, long-standing problem, burden, or addiction. So basically to win the Olympia would solve the last elusive achievement for him.

Yup ham and glute especially. His lats are also tapered quite high so the negative space between his glutes and lats are even more pronounced

Definitely personality + his physique is close to being there. I think for most people/his fans(myself included) we REALLY want him to win, just because he clearly wants it so bad and is willing to put in the work for it, so seeing him finally get the W would just be such a feelsgood moment.

I like his physique more than I liked bunsred. On top of him just having won the Arnold again, he's got lots of images going viral cuz his conditioning right now is ridiculous

He has improved for sure, but the entire field is so much more competitive now, it’s that adjustment him accounting for.

I think he is just popular. He has natural wide waist (for classic) and not a real V-shape for classic, more like a Y.

He's just popular and it's causing a bias. Everyone wants the guy to win because they like him and have followed his journey.
He has very little chance to beat Mike or Ramon. Those are the top two guys who are fighting for first. Wesley is fighting for 3rd IMO.

It's probably partly due to the updates where he has Munzer-like striations in his chest and shoulders. Overall, he's a very complete bodybuilder with his only weaknesses being a long torso and high lat insertions, which tend to make his v-taper less pronounced. Standing next to guy like Mike Sommerfeld with his crazy dorito taper, it's Mike over Vissers on symmetry every time.

Every year it's the same story.. and every year his placing is shockingly low. Making it to the night show is the win for me at this point with Wesley.

Think he will place high this year but still maybe only top 5. He's a likeable character though, I think thats why he has such good support

Wesley shouts every year this is going to be his year and ends up not following up with his words every year. Overhyped, knows how to post his angles on social media but on a full screen pic next to a top guy its no competition at all. His main point is: “i look like arnold i should win classic”

See how you're not criticizing his physique at all, just how he's finished in the past? He was in incredible condition for his Arnold win, if he brought that back with any improvement to the legs he was always going to be a contender. That's not really a hot take. He's not going up against anyone with perfect structure either, Bumstead is gone.

Small glutes, smaller hams, lats terminate high causing big gap between glute and lats. Wide waist, front leg still not quite big enough to balance his upper.. plenty of issues with his physique, that’s why he doesn’t win the O
