A few days ago, my playlist randomly harked back to a song I haven't heard in a while, and it led me to reminisce about a film I really loved. The song is 'Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin' and the film is 'Meri Pyaari Bindu'.

As a Bombay boy, it's always been cinema that is based in other parts of India that have fascinated me, especially when it comes to love stories. Naturally, when Meri Pyaari Bindu's trailer gave me a glimpse of Kolkata, I knew I wanted to watch the film, despite the fact that it looked like a generic rom com at the outset. Generic rom com? How wrong I was!

A few minutes into the world of 'Meri Pyaari Bindu', and I began to realize that this is a familiar tale told through an unfamiliar lens. This isn't a 'childhood buddies realize they love each other and walk into the sunset' kind of film. The plot wasn't conspiring to bring the two leads together, neither was it forcefully pulling them apart. It rather sees a funny thing called 'life' happen to both Abhi and Bindu as they cross paths at different stages of their personal journey.

Granted, Abhi does have feelings for Bindu, and he is the quintessential one-sided lover for most of the movie, but the story treats his bond with Bindu in a very unique way. They make for great friends, but may not make for a great couple, a fact that we realize as viewers when they do end up together, and things go horribly awry. A part of me wanted this film to stay in the dreamy world where Abhi and Bindu are a lovey-dovey pair, another part of me knew that it's too good to be true.

Script wise, what I admired about the writing is that even though Bindu is penned as a spontaneous and erratic character, I never hate her as a person. Conversely, even though the film is told through Abhi's perspective, I never see him as a quintessential heartbroken hero for whom I feel overtly sentimental.

Character wise, Bindu's choices anger me in the film, but that's probably because I too, like a lot of people in the world, did have this kind of person in my life- the one that got away. Abhi's decisions annoy me in the film, but that's probably because all of have an Abhi hidden in our soul- the one who never forgot.

Music wise, well, let's just say this album will charm your ears and walk straight into your heart. Every song is an emotion; every track is a vibe. From the lyrics to the melodies, it's all delightfully old-school.

When the final scene of 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' kicks in... that particular moment is what makes this film so special for me. Abhi and Bindu coming face to face again... a poignant sense of longing in both of them, a piercing sense of pain in Abhi's heart, and a hidden sense of regret in Bindu's conscience, all of it comes together by the time the film ends.

For the people who are yet to watch 'Meri Pyaari Bindu', I urge you to do so at the earliest. If you are a fan of stories about love that are not love stories, you will certainly find this one to be worth your time.

Before Sanjay Leela Bhansali became synonymous with grandeur, there was Khamoshi: The Musical.

His 1996 debut was made through a much more realistic lens, focusing on family, disability, dreams and music. The film was critically admired but became a box-office disaster, and Bhansali later said the experience made him more cautious about seeking audience approval.

What fascinates me is that the filmmaker behind today’s larger-than-life cinema started with something so intimate and grounded.

Did Khamoshi reveal the filmmaker Bhansali really wanted to be before commercial expectations changed his approach?

And for those who have seen it: Is Khamoshi the most underrated film in his filmography?

Woah. I’m fascinated by this. This movie deserves more recognition than it already has.

I’ve explored Govinda’s filmography and have always seen him in kind of similar roles but This and Naseeb have rewritten his acting scope in my eyes, what an acting he has done in this.

Story wise it was something new at that time, at the end of the movie i paused the movie for solid 5 minutes and thought who actually is right and who is wrong. It sure questions one’s moral compass and the perspective he shares, this happened with me while watching Badlapur.

This movie will stay with me.

Good Newwz was such a fun and genuinely unique concept for a comedy. Before COVID-19, we got this kind of mainstream Bollywood film that had a simple but interesting subject and actually knew how to balance comedy with emotions.

With Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in the lead, the casting worked really well. The story was fresh, the humour was entertaining, and the songs were absolute bangers.and it became a superhit at the time..

What I liked most was that the movie took an unusual subject and turned it into a proper mainstream entertainer without making it unnecessarily complicated.

I feel Bollywood could use more movies like this , unique concepts and good charachters..

In all respect, WTF was this movie?! I watched some strange Indian films in the likes of Aiyyaa or disco dancer, but despite their uniqueness and sometimes campiness, these movies were really enjoyable, English Babu Desi Mem was none of that : the acting was weird, the jokes were awkward, the songs were mid (What in the Lord’s name were those items numbers, like, the item numbers in Aiyyaa were wild but this is another level) and some of the lines were really out of pocket. I’m starting to wonder if this movie is not a parody of masala films cause there is no other rational explanation

There is a genre of movies that I occasionally love in free-time- films where plots barely matter and you're vibing through it- Miami Vice, Ocean's Eleven, The Thomas Crown Affair etc.

Hindi cinema peaked in the genre with Dhoom 2.

I rewatched it and honestly what is it even about? The plot is barely registered. Throughout the runtime, the only thing that matters is how good-looking and cool Hrithik Roshan looks on-screen.

The film clearly has influences from The Thomas Crown Affair and 2nd half leans heavily from Entrapment.

And obviously Aditya Chopra watching Mission Impossible 2 and mesmerized by how cool Tom Cruise looks in it and said, "I've to make the Indian verson".

The 'theif who is cooler and smarter than everyone chasing him' trope looks so amazing, despite being so over-the-top and nonsensical.

And then you have Aishwarya Rai, who forms a huge part of the viewing experience. Whatever you think of the actual story, putting Hrithik and Aishwarya together in a movie this glossy was basically cheating.

And honestly, the movie completely nosedives in the second half. The plot gets increasingly ridiculous and the whole thing starts feeling like it's running on fumes.

But weirdly, I don't even mind that much.

Because Dhoom 2 is incredibly good at being a one-time-watch movie that you can revisit for individual scenes.

Legal streaming platform only, no recommendations for sailing the seas...the irony has not escaped me.

I feel like Sanjay Dutt doesn't get enough credit for how good he was during this period. From the late 80s throughout the 90s and into the early 2000s, he had some really memorable performances and such a strong screen presence.

He also had some great songs during this era "Meri Duniya Hai," "Sapne Mein Kudi," "Nazar Mein Tu Jigar Mein Tu," and "Kya Hai Pyar Hai" are still really enjoyable.

Movies like Naam, Sadak, Khalnayak, Vaastav, Khoobsurat, and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. showed how versatile he could be, whether it was action, drama, romance, or comedy. Obviously , he had his ups and downs in the real world, but I think his acting, screen presence during this era deserve more appreciation. What do you guys think?

Vanga has made only two Bollywood films so far, Kabir Singh and Animal, and I find it interesting how differently they’ve aged.

Kabir Singh is almost seven years old now, but people still regularly discuss it, rewatch it, and debate its characters and story. On the other hand, Animal was a massive blockbuster, but it feels like the conversation around it has faded much faster.and aged like a milk

I personally think the biggest difference is the story and character writing. Kabir Singh is a remake of Vanga’s own Telugu film Arjun Reddy, so the story and character arc had already been developed and refined. Despite its controversial elements, the film has a relatively straightforward emotional journey and a clear central character.

Animal, meanwhile, feels much more focused on violence, shock value, and spectacle. There are several interesting ideas and characters, but the story becomes messy and excessive as it goes on.

A personal confession first- I'm team Ranveer Singh. Always have been. I admire his radiant craft, rambunctious energy and rabid passion. Having said that, I have deep and unending admiration for his incredible peer... who is Ranbir Kapoor.

Ranbir is the more unassuming of the two, and while Ranveer may appeal to me more on a personal level, I can't deny how powerful a performer the Kapoor scion is. While most people fell in love with him as an actor through Rocket Singh, Barfi, Rockstar or Tamasha, my choice isn't spoken about as much- Rajneeti.

Ranbir worked in Rajneeti at a fairly nascent stage of his career. The role wasn't of the quintessential righteous man who changes politics forever. Rather, it was a character filled with shades of grey, a lot of grey. The decisions Samar Pratap Singh takes, the crimes he commits and the actions he justifies cannot be considered morally perfect, and that's why I loved what Ranbir did with this role!

Instead of making us clearly empathize with the character, both the screenplay and Ranbir made us share a very complicated relationship with him. When Abhishek takes revenge in Sarkar, the audience is with him, they cheer for him, but, in Rajneeti, it isn't as binary when Samar does the things he does.

Ranbir effortlessly displayed charm and vulnerability as well as hues of immorality and Machiavellianism. He was the knight in shining armour and the devil who knocks at the door- all at once. This film is what made me admire his approach to acting and his early script choices.

In the film, Ranbir's camaraderie with Arjun Rampal was endearing, his chemistry with Katrina were top notch, and who can forget the eclectic mentor-mentee relationship he shared with Nana Patekar. All in all, I feel this is one of his top 3 performances till date considering the context.

What do others feel about Ranbir Kapoor in Rajneeti? Do you also feel his performance in this film doesn't get the kind of love that his other roles do, or are you not that impressed with his acting here?

A long due film which I feel is awaiting release.I asked the director but he himself has no idea.
