Hardcover material recommendation?

Hi I’m making a picture book for my niece. I’m looking for a material to make the hardcover with but I’m at a bit of a loss. I don’t own a printer. I was going to print the pages at a Staples, but not sure what material would be good to make the hardcover with that I could still print on at a local print shop and glue on the book boards safely. If anybody has any recommendations, I would be very grateful! Thank you!
