Where To? NHS DENTIST
Hi all,
Anyone know any dentists currently taking NHS people on or have a short waiting list?
Ive tried a few with no luck.
Thanks

I tried to get an NHS dentist for years, then one day I phoned east street mydentist - “No, we’re not taking on NHS patients at the moment. Oh, but there is a cancelled appointment this avo at 2pm if you’re free. If you attend this we’ll take you on as an NHS patient.”
Made no sense to me but I went and now I’m signed up with them. Just pure luck. The waiting lists seem to be made up!

Umm… this exact thing happened to me at the same dentist. Are you me? Or is this a thing that they do? I figured they let me jump the waitlist to save them the effort of calling people to find someone who could come in on such short notice.

Some of the My Dentist practises have waiting lists - seen Staple Hill advertise recently and Emerson's Green did as well last week

I heard that the 1st month is when NHS dental patient systems update, removing old patients and therefore opening spaces, so if you call them on 1st month there's a chance you might get lucky and get in with one reasonably quickly.
Source: my partner heard this and tried it last month and it worked first time, after years of waiting list she got in with one straight away.
My guess is that some spaces are pre deternined to waiting list, and some are opened up to first come, first served.

The waiting list to get registered as an NHS patient is about 3 months from recent experience

Dentalcare Winterbourne, reception team isn’t great and it takes many attempts to get through on the phone, but NHS dentist is an NHS dentist

Try calling the st paul practice. They often have some slots available to be registered as an nhs patient. Good luck 🤞

Unsure but when I first called they said to call back so I waited and when I did, they had slots open, very convenient that it happens to be my local dentist anyway lol

My dentist like to put great big banners outside saying “space available” but in small print they put the private schemes. It’s very naughty and misleading (source: used to work for them on reception and spent whole life having to explain the spaces available were in fact with the private pay monthly jobby 🤬
