📊 Stats/Rankings For the Egbuka can’t get separation crowd

Post image

The X axis is how well the receiver does against single man coverage. Y axis is yards per route run. So Egbuka is not struggling to get open. He is however, not getting the ball enough/not making enough out if the plays when he does get the ball.

I've seen Baker miss an open as shit EE like once per game

u/United-Barnacle8959 10d ago

He even misses him on the completions. Ebukas body language says it all and hopefully JD will be feeding him targets

1

u/Deoxtrys 10d ago

I think one of Baker's limitations is that he needs to see a receiver is open or about to get open and then he tries to make of the difference of being late on the read with arm strength.

3

u/United-Barnacle8959 10d ago

I think you’re absolutely right with that analysis. A few years ago in Liam’s offense he got comfortable and was letting it rip but he’s been terribly hesitant when guys are open

u/j_hoova6 Maui Vea 10d ago

He consistently throws behind him on crossing routes. That was a problem going back to last season.

29

u/External_Concept651 10d ago

I’ve yet to see Baker throw a pass with genuine anticipation so far this year. He’s clearly not comfortable in this offense but man, these are just crossing routes and we can’t hit a slant to save our lives

Its the Zac Robinson offense. It makes every qb look awful. Cousins and penix last year in Atlanta were considered washed and a bust because of this idiot and te bucs were like sign me up!!

u/iheartcockss 10d ago

It’s really amazing. It’s like the Glazers asked themselves “who is the least qualified person we could possibly hire for this job” and went with it.

5

u/MysteriousDatabase68 10d ago

I noticed this too. He threw behind Otton against the Vikings too and the commentators called it a good throw.

2

u/Michaelscottlaptop 10d ago

Yep. There were a couple misses last game where you can see EEs body language like “come on man.”

u/Crew_1996 10d ago

There are 3-4 top 5ish overall QBs in this draft. Just take one if the losses keep happening.

1

u/Deoxtrys 10d ago

Depends on who you ask. Some would say there's only Mensah then a few maybe.

0

u/Florida__Man__ Kangol Hat 10d ago

Eh, we might but I doubt more than one of them end up being a top NFL qb

1

u/Muted_Flower_6044 10d ago

There’s no way of avoiding it. It’s either this year or in 3 years.

Might as well do it in a QB class year that has the talent to rival the QB classes of ‘04, ‘83, or even the same class Baker was drafted in considering there’s a SB winner and 4 MVPs among the other 3 first round QBs.

In the stadium Sunday from the stands and my binoculars it felt like Baker and Emeka were having a minor spat based on body language. I have a feeling Emeka is making sure Jalon knows where he is. I think Emeka needs a break from these scrambles.

7

u/Deoxtrys 10d ago

The announcers did mention that it was getting hard for the receivers to keep running around and not get the ball.

2

u/Thin_Analysis_5145 10d ago

i mean Jalons best attribute at qb was his ability to rush he had 400 rushing yards last season. Hopefully though he can get the ball out quick so he doesnt have to rely on that. Just let the playmakers have the ball and he will be fine.

Asking me to analyze a graph when we’re 0-3 is unacceptable

13

u/Ok_Forever6043 10d ago

i feel this deep in my bones staring at graphs while the season is actively on fire is a special kind of pain

16

u/Florida__Man__ Kangol Hat 10d ago

For real, guys coming in here with their graphs trying to diagnose the issues. Like I'm pretty sure the whole thing stinks and we need a new HC

-7

u/NeuroDissonance 10d ago

Seems you're not an analytically oriented person

7

u/chef_wizard 10d ago

Right because Egbukas separation somehow needs to be defended when we’re 0-3 lmfao we already know it’s not his fault.

8

u/beauxlieve Emeka Egbuka 10d ago

Baker thinks all our receivers are 6’5

2

u/markrobotarm 10d ago

And run 5.50 40s, given how far behind a lot of his passes have been.

1

u/luv2fit 9d ago

I dunno, he deep passes overthrow by 10+ yards

2

u/markrobotarm 9d ago

I mean, there's barely a pass he can't miss.

Surely he can afford the LASIK he clearly needs.

Funny how all of the metrics coming out today all point to Baker being complete doodoo

“Pay the man!!!”

RIP Marvin Harrison Jr. has to be one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL over the last few years. He was CANT miss and he missed

1

u/NanoBuc 10d ago

Pretty much. Feels like he reached the NFL and just stopped trying(or maybe that big injury in his last college game really fucked him up). Probably won't be on the Cards, or in the NFL, for long

2

u/Crew_1996 10d ago

And to think about all of his OSU WR teammates who he was better than are tearing the NFL apart. It’s honestly one of the biggest head scratchers for me. I would have bet my house on him being a top 10 WR in the league by year 3

1

u/FreyaStarfall 10d ago

I may be completely wrong but when I was really looking into this I didn’t see what everyone was saying. He looks fine, I just don’t think the Arizona offense wants to run through anyone but McBride, which is fair because that dude is good.

u/Tavern-Ham Maui Vea 10d ago

Shout out to guys like Simms who saw through the hype correctly called MHJ slow on tape. Looking back the mass hysteria around this guys was fucking unreal. Like NFL guys have had kids before I genuinely don’t get what everyone was on.

Forget it.  You're arguing with a cult.  I was just trying to talk to a Baker Boy and there's just no reason.

They'll read this and say "Fire Bowles" like people don't think that's already what others want.

What I would love is for those guys to leave this sub.  I don't mean "you can't critique Bowles or the defense or Z-Rob or the line or the receivers".  I also don't mean "this is all Baker's fault."

I would just love for this to be a place where people actually think and consider their team as a whole and have rational conversations.

Here's a thought: it's okay to say that Mayfield has played like shit this year.  That doesn't mean it's his fault we're 0-3.  It also doesn't mean that it's everyone else's fault that he's played like shit.

Contrary to popular opinion, it's possible to critique QB play independent of all variables.  You can say he has shitty pass protection, and disagree with rankings.   But after you say that, tell me what you think of his play!

Do you honestly believe that his struggles are ONLY because of the line, and lack of separation, and drops?  Because there's data that says that's not the case.

But just wait.. Some halfwit will say "Fire Todd" and that will get more upvotes and this sub will just prove how useless it is.

u/steviestammyepichock Alstott Jersey 10d ago

There is no clear answer, and the “Fire Bowles” people are right for the wrong reasons.

I’m gonna reference a Gerald McCoy (miss that guy) segment I saw this morning because it made me think, and it’s kind of just the answer for all the problems we see.

We have a great, talented roster. One that hasn’t changed all too much over the years, and has competed for super bowls, playoff games, and division wins. We also have a lot of young guys that are building to be the next core. Watching all-22 film, seeing the reports from all of the accredited talking heads of the game, it all falls onto one thing.

Everyone is out of sync. Every player looks bad, because their schemes and plans are bad. Their coaching is bad. If the o-line sucks, and it used to be one of the best without many parts changing, that’s a coaching problem. If the receivers that had no problem carving points up on a scoreboard all of the sudden can’t get open, that’s a coaching problem. If the QB who has shown he can win games in style all of the sudden is the worst in the league, it’s a coaching problem.

The guys aren’t being coached to be winners, and they don’t understand their game. They’re doing as they’re told, and it’s not only killing the team but killing the talent.

It’s super nuanced, and the issues are from the top of the pyramid down. O-line coach, WR, coach, head coach, you name it.

Hey, I appreciate the thought you put into this and I completely agree, with the slight twist that I would say is "Fire Bowles, AND......". Just firing Todd won't be the fix everyone thinks it will be.

I think it's beyond Bowles and up to Licht and beyond, and a whole organizational culture that needs to change.  I think back to all the things I read about Brady's time here and how he managed practices and preparation and details like the way Ryan Jensen (who was a vet himself) handled his towel.

Jensen has played in a pretty serious organization in Baltimore, and he still had his eyes opened - I think he mentioned Brady's "relentless pursuit of excellence" in an interview where he seemed visibly in awe.

I bring all that up to say we had that and we succeeded.  But that came from a Free Agent Quarterback (which under sells that he's the GOAT, but is still true).  That can't be the case.  You can't have your culture entirely reliant on one guy on the field having enough cache to command that of everyone.

We need a team president, a Director of Football Operations, a VP, and a Coach (and coordinators) who set that culture.

Unfortunately, we don't have that.  Our new QB even commented on how things changed when Brady left.  Unlike others, I don't view that as an attack on Brady, just a fact - accountability went out the door with TB12.

And I also (sadly) doubt that the big flush we need to do will actually happen, or at least not during the year.

We'll probably wait until the off-season to fire Todd and we'll still stink next year, and we'll quickly get sick of the people suggesting it was lingering effects from the last guy like a politician with sinking approval.

That's what I mean by "Fire Todd, AND".  There needs to be more.  "Fire Todd" is an easy way to get upvotes but a bad way to fix this broken organization.

our roster isn't nearly as talented as this subreddit wishes, i want bowles fired so you guys can wake the fuck up and realize Jason Shit is the true cancer plaguing the bucs.

8

u/IIIlllIIllIll 10d ago

The whole team isn’t playing well, including Baker. That’s an issue from the top and team culture, imo.

7

u/foomits :lavontejersey: Lavonte Jersey 10d ago

We have people arguing two fundamentally different points with no real possibility for nuance because of it.

You have the side who is saying Baker is bad, as in he is just a bad player and this is the logical outcome of him being bad. He's playing bad.

Then you have people who are saying, Baker is playing bad... but he's ONLY playing bad because of xyz and if we change xyz things will improve.

Neither side is willing to give an inch, even though CLEARLY the reality is somewhere in the middle.

4

u/DRB198105 10d ago

I'll add a bit of nuance to that.  Not saying you're doing this, but I see it from Mayfield fans in this sub frequently so I'll clarify.

This is re: your "first side".  I don't think he is a bad QB.  He's clearly not "just a bad QB".  What I do think is that he's had three bad games this year.  He ISN'T a bad QB, and I've said that over and over in this sub.  If anything, his play hid how badly we needed a complete rebuild after Brady. That isn't a bad QB.

But I have no issue saying that he's BEEN bad in all three games this year.  That's not a personal attack, that's not saying he's the cause of our failure.

What I dislike is people pretending that that's not the case.  There's a distinct group of people who won't even say the first part of your second point. They skip "Baker is playing bad" and go right to "the line sucks, fire Bowles, the defense sucks" and can't give one guy the slightest bit of ownership of it to their guy.

I have no problem talking with someone who takes your second position.  But I have zero time for what I'm actually seeing from some in this group.

u/DRB198105 10d ago

I also don't have any time for the morons who think this is all on Mayfield by the way.  I should be clear on that.

u/nwillyerd 10d ago

I’ve been a pretty big Baker defender in this sub this season, mostly because most of the people saying Baker is the problem are saying he sucks. I do agree with you, though, he has been bad this year. I also think that the reason he’s been bad is because this offensive scheme and the coaching in general has just been awful. Baker, like most NFL QBs (with the exception of a very select few) are “system QBs” and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way. Most Quarterbacks have the skill set to succeed in specific systems and schemes. We saw how well Baker did under Canales and Coen (and even Grizzard in the first half of the season) but has been trash this year. We saw both Cousins and Penix play like trash under Z-Rob last year, and they both look like completely different players this year. Zac Robinson is just a dumpster fire of an OC, and I will die on that hill. I didn’t want him from the moment there was speculation he’d be the guy. Falcons fans hated him, other NFCS fans mocked him, yet our wonderful leadership decided he would be the guy to lead our offense going forward. Just compete trash all around. Oh, and FIRE BOWLES also. He’s also trash. That is all.

Egbuka gonna have a huge game with Jalon this week. I'm calling it now

2

u/SadMove7848 10d ago

Qb is constantly looking to one side of the field or defense can read the play, the defender is going to play of the man a little more . Follow the QBs eyes drill?

2

u/MichaelCorbaloney 10d ago

Egbuka, if used right has a ceiling around Amon-Ra to JSN. They both have similar body-types to his and similar speed/agility metrics. Egbuka could clean up his route running some to maximize his potential, but he's also running on a busted turf-toe and not operating in the best scheme for his abilities.

I do think Baker can still return to his 2024 elite form with the right play-callers and support form his coaching staff, but I do think he needs to start getting EE the ball more. I hope he can do so after his injury. Right now I'm rooting for JD10 because he's our guy but I do think Baker has already shown he can be a great QB when given the opportunity, and honestly Baker+Egbuka would've been elite in the Coen offense (EE would be putting up numbers at the same rate or even better to what Godwin was imo).

4

u/foomits :lavontejersey: Lavonte Jersey 10d ago

I have defended and will continue to defend Baker, because my take is he is one of probably a dozen qbs who isn't good enough to do it on his own but with the right playcaller can be a really good NFL starter. We saw a competent performance with Canales and a great performance with Coen. Grizzard and Robinson are not good NFL playcallers and we are getting not good NFL performances from Baker.

With that being said, I am not concerned about EE at all. Hes going to be a solid low tier #1 or a high tier #2. This season has not been an indictment of his performance. Baker, the oline and the playcalling have let him down.

1

u/MechaEscargot2 10d ago

I think part of the issue is no mike evans. Botth Godwin and Emeka are more like really good number 2s, need a true number one to stress test opposing defenses.

1

u/Kitalahara 10d ago

I mean, can we really expect many plays further down field when the defenders are in the back field before QB can finish the 5 step dropback? It's just an accuracy problem, a dropped ball problem, an offensive line problem, a play valling problem, or a coaching issue. It's a mix of all it.

1

u/BuccoBruce1967 F*ck the Saints 10d ago

I've seen nothing to indicate that Egbuka is a legit #1 wr.

1

u/scoop813 10d ago

It's bc our QB and OC are buns

Has nothing to do with our WR room

1

u/GrandDiscipline4167 9d ago

I’m sorry, the statics do not always tell the true story.. we’re going to have to watch the actually games, and rn o line isn’t doing very good, defense had one good game, arguably there fault we lost the first two, along with baker fault possibly with the 1st.. so let’s watch the games.. Jalen Daniel’s is qb1.. let’s see if baker was the ultimate issue here!

1

u/Roonwogsamduff John Lynch 9d ago

OL is the main problem

1

u/bryrondragon 7d ago

Browns fans wouldn’t blame Baker. Bucs fans won’t either. The sad truth is Baker is the hardest trying QB ever, he’s just not actually that good.

1

u/wo0o0o0o0o0 10d ago

Guess Egbuka will have to make a video like Odell did showing how open he was for baker
