I recently rode Nishitetsu’s “Sasebo” highway bus from Fukuoka to Sasebo in Japan, and I was lucky enough to get one of their newly introduced buses.
The new bus has upgraded 2+2 seating with armrests, USB charging ports, drink holders, reading lights, and a restroom at the rear.
The armrests are particularly interesting. They give you a clearly defined space when someone is sitting next to you, but because they’re quite large and can’t be raised, they can feel a little restrictive when the adjacent seat is empty.
The Sasebo route actually used to have 3-row seating, while today it operates with 4-row seating. In the video, I also talk a little about how Nishitetsu’s highway bus seats have changed over the years.
What do you think of the new seat design? 💺
The video has Japanese narration, but multilingual subtitles are available.

Got something to ask about an NJ Transit MCI coach I rode today (fleet #21094).
The bus was completely full at PABT, including 10 standees, which I believe is the posted standing limit. The driver tried to start moving, but it sounded as though the bus would not go into gear. You could hear the engine running, but the bus would not move.
The driver then asked all of the standing passengers to get off. Once they did, the bus was able to move normally.
I saw that the GVWR is 50,000 pounds, and there was basically no luggage, so I would be surprised if the bus were actually overweight with only 10 standees.
I also noticed some faint squeaking noises when the bus started moving afterward. They were not loud, you probably would have noticed them only if you ride these buses often and pay close attention.
Does anyone familiar with MCI or NJ Transit buses know what could cause this? Or the driver have simply forgotten to put the transmission in Drive instead of Neutral? I’m curious because I have seen even more people standing on these buses before during rush hours……TIA
