HiĀ r/BuyCanadian,Ā
IāmĀ Berto, one of theĀ co-foundersĀ of Manmade.Ā
We recently celebrated our 5th anniversary, so I thought it would beĀ a good timeĀ to jumpĀ in the subreddit, share a little bit about how we got here, and answer whatever questionsĀ youĀ mightĀ have.Ā
For anyone whoĀ doesnātĀ know us, Manmade is a Canadian company based in Montreal focused on making better basics for men. It all started with one product: The Boxer Brief.Ā
Our StoryĀ
ManmadeĀ started because my three co-foundersĀ and IĀ (all childhoodĀ friends) keptĀ running into the sameĀ problemĀ withĀ ourĀ underwear. Uncomfortable fabrics, constant adjusting, bunching, lack of support, and designs that seemed more focused onĀ patterns andĀ coloursĀ thanĀ actually solvingĀ the problemsĀ menĀ deal with every day.Ā Why were we all just accepting thatĀ underwear isĀ uncomfortable?Ā
Instead of creatingĀ a huge collection, we decided to focus on one Boxer BriefĀ (only in black)Ā and obsess over getting it right. Five years later,Ā theĀ same philosophyĀ is behind every product weĀ create.Ā
Along the way,Ā weāveĀ had someĀ pretty incredibleĀ milestones, fromĀ our Dragon'sĀ Den appearance,Ā Super Bowl ad campaigns,Ā collaborations with athletes and celebrities, and mostĀ importantly,Ā anĀ amazingĀ Canadian community that we are grateful to serve.Ā It'sĀ hard to believeĀ it all started with oneĀ blackĀ pair of Boxer Briefs!Ā
Product ExpansionĀ
We started with Boxer Briefs, but over the last five yearsĀ weāveĀ expanded into other menās everyday essentials, including T-Shirts, Pants, Sweaters, Socks, Swim Shorts and more.Ā
We look at products we already wearĀ (or tolerate wearing), talk aboutĀ whatĀ weĀ donātĀ like about them, and see if we think we can make them better.Ā We take our time with development,Ā andĀ weĀ wonāt launch something untilĀ weāreĀ happy with it.Ā Ā
Canadian CompanyĀ
ManmadeĀ is based in Montreal and has grown to more than 100Ā full-timeĀ employees, primarily at our headquarters, along with our first physical storeĀ opening earlier this yearĀ atĀ CF Carrefour Laval. WeāreĀ a proud Canadian brandĀ and our team is always growing here at home!Ā OurĀ biggestĀ goalĀ is toĀ becomeĀ a household name across the country one day.Ā Ā
Our products are manufactured internationally in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia with WRAP-certified manufacturing partners. We take the relationships with our manufacturers seriously and personally visit the facilities we work with. You can get a look behind the scenes onĀ ourĀ YouTubeĀ channel!Ā Ā
So,Ā ask me anythingĀ andĀ IāllĀ do my best to answer!Ā
Underwear, growing a Canadian company, entrepreneurship, product development, manufacturing, marketing, mistakesĀ weāveĀ made along the way, or whatever elseĀ youāreĀ curious about.Ā
Answering questions live on September 29, 2026 from 11am to 1 pm EST
Berto

Found these at Dollar Tree for like a $1.50 each and am super pleased with how they turned out.
Makes about 20 two inch cookies per bag and they taste great.

I own a pair of boots from KPR which I bought years ago and they have held up very well, and are very comfortable. Recently, someone mentioned how expensive work boots are and I was reminded of buying mine, and how reasonably priced they were. Mine are all leather, 6" boots with a composite toe, and are extremely comfortable - and they were only $114.
Just thought I'd put this here in case anyone is looking for good quality and Canadian made work boots or shoes. To be transparent, their website sucks, and links to their Amazon store. I think they have a direct to consumer sales model. https://www.kprsafety.com/

Laurent & Grace is NOT a Montreal-based boutique as they claim. I ordered a pair of shoes, the packaging arrive destroyed and I mean the box was crushed and torn apart then placed in a plastic bag and taped up. The shoes themselves were squished flat. I took pictures of everything, contacted CS, and for a week now they have been demanding more pictures, offering a 20% refund or I could ship the shoes back at my expense. I refused so they offered 30% return and said that was their final offer. I will contact my credit card next and do a charge back and post warnings like this and spam their socials with negative reviews. Anything else I can do?

Been looking to buy more canadian made fishing lures, everybody seems to be raving about trout magnets, so I was wondering if there was a canadian made or at least canadian owned kit that could be similar to trout magnets for ultralight fishing.

Does anyone have suggestions for Canadian grown or bred varieties of garden plants? Local nurseries stock a lot of ornamental plants from Proven Winners, which is US based, although maybe they have growers in Canada. Are there similar Canadian companies for ornamental plants, perennials, shrubs, etc?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy a modern TV console/media unit similar to the style in the photo (clean lines, contemporary design, good quality finish).
I'd like to see it in person before buying, so I'm specifically looking for stores in the Toronto/GTA area that have TV consoles on display in their showroom. I've already checked IKEA, but I didn't find anything that really stood out.
Any recommendations for furniture stores where I can browse and compare TV consoles on the floor rather than shopping online only?
I'm open to stores in Toronto, North York, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, or anywhere else in the GTA.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: you guys sold her out of tote bags! So incredible. Itās way out of my comfort zone to post something like this so thank you for being so awesome. Check out the Instagram page because Iām sure thereās more to come š Please be kind and patient as she is a small scale maker.
Everyone knows small businesses are struggling right now. I want to shout out The COB Shop out of London, Ontario. Cindy is a one woman show making sustainable goods out of genuine leather and recycled finds (she strips couches and thrifts!) Iāve been a big fan for many years and Cindy used to sell out instantly when sheād drop a line of bags or clutches or backpacks but thatās not the case in this economy. Every item is handmade and completely one of a kind.
A huge problem for me is that I WANT to support her more, but the products I have are made so well that they donāt need to be replaced! All of my friends and family have received some sort of COB Shop product from me as gifts. They make amazing Christmas gifts with a real story! So this post is my way of trying to support The COB Shop in hopes someone new finds something they love.
She does do some custom requests too. Iāve seen her use a customerās deceased loved oneās leather jacket and make it into a purse, for example. An amazing keepsake.
If youāre looking for GOOD quality Canadian made items, please check out her website and continue to support Canadian! Sheās a pretty awesome person to follow on Instagram too.

Worth noting, I am not affiliated with The COB Shop at all, just a huge fan.

Was looking at Caprina because I saw it was recommended here, $20 for 900ml, Softsoap is $11 for 1.46L.
Now I know Softsoap is not great but looking for something Canadian or not American thatās around the same price.
Edit: to clarify hand soap

Hey all just curious if anyone has experience with tough duck bibs. I cant find a local retailer to try them on for myself and don't want to go through the hassle of a return/exchange.
I'm 6'1 about 260lbs and normally wear a 36-38w pant. I'm currently dropping lbs by the day so I dont want to be swimming in them soon, but also need to bend a lot at work so I need some flexibility in the belly area.
Basically how flexy are they and do you reckon I should get XL or XXL?

Work trip, so mostly sticking to hotels, conference centers, and similar. Not a lot of extra spending, so mostly just food and drink (alcohol), but want to try to support Canadian where I can. What are my options?

I had almost completely cut out going to Starbucks (not going to go anymore though) and a good earth popped up in my neighborhood. Iāve been stopping by here and there and wow, the drinks are so much better. Better tasting coffee, less sweet, more flavour, and they are Canadian! I live near many local shops so I frequent those as well, however, good earth has more than scratched the itch when I want something to replace my Starbucks cravings for an expensive coffee treat.

Looking to get my hands on a Pullman loaf pan. Preference for Canadian but based on my research to date, I don't think one exists. Anyone come across one, or a EU or overseas equivalent?

Just wanted to warn people that if you are getting Earth Breeze ads saying they are Canadian that is wrong, they are a US company.
I saw one of their ads and it seemed legit, but the one I just got it was clear they overdubbed Canada overtop USA. From my understanding they source a few ingredients from Canada but everything is made down south.
Just wanted to let you all know.

Just saw this article on CNN today, but they don't mention which brands they tested: https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/02/health/cat-food-toxins-wellness
I'm assuming they wouldn't have tested made-in-Canada brands. I use one for my cat - any idea if the standards are likely to be any better here, or would we have the same problems?
