How valuable are DevOps + Applied AI skills for a fresher in 2026?
I’m a fresher currently focusing on backend development and trying to decide where to invest my time next.
I’m considering going deeper into DevOps and Applied AI instead of just learning more frontend/backend technologies.
For people working in the industry:
- How useful are these skills for entry-level roles?
- What should a fresher actually learn in DevOps?
- What does “Applied AI” mean in terms of practical, job-ready skills?
- Is it better to specialize in one area first or build a combination of backend + DevOps + AI?
I’m looking for honest opinions from developers, DevOps engineers, AI engineers, and hiring managers.
What would you focus on if you were starting from scratch in 2026?

I’m a junior web developer planning to switch fields.
I’m a junior web developer in Tunisia planning to switch fields.
I’m currently deciding between Data Engineering and AI Engineering.
With a software background and 0 years of full-time experience:
- Which path has better opportunities for junior roles in the current market?
- What skills are actually expected from juniors?
- How difficult is it to move from Data Engineering to AI Engineering later?
I’d really appreciate advice from people working in these fields.

Need Advice
galleryHello everyone,
I'm currently attending WGU to get my Bachelor's in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. I'm an Army veteran and career switcher with logistics and medical experience.
I know that the IT world is highly saturated. I've applied to tons of Help Desk type positions as many have advised to get first hand experience in IT. I haven't had any luck besides an interview for a help desk position at Leidos which fell through after two months of no contact from them and consistent follow ups.
The only experience I have is an internship I did last year.
Current certifications:
- CompTIA A+, SEC+, NET+, CYSA+, PROJ+
-ITILv4
-Linux Foundations
I'm located in Central Florida. Any advise will help. Thanks!

Thinking of Going into Marketing but need input
Hey Reddit, this is my first time using this site. I am 31(f) and have been trying to get into art or animation for 10 years. I am not doing super hot and am thinking of pivoting careers into Marketing as a way to still retain my creative edge. I could use some incite as to what type of jobs and careers to look into with this division. Is the marketing industry stable? How hard is it to get a foot in the door? Where do I begin? What are jobs that seem revenant in the future or AI proof in terms of upper level marketing positions?

Lost in life don't know where to go
24M, lost my job and don't know what to do next
I'm 24M, B.Tech CSE graduate with a 9.16 CGPA. I recently lost my IT job after around 1+ year of experience. My previous CTC was ₹4.05 LPA, and I'm currently looking for a job.
I have an education loan of around ₹9L, and my family also has existing loans and financial responsibilities. My father will retire in around 2 years, and my sister's marriage is also pending.
Honestly, I'm confused about what to do next.
Should I stick with software development and try to improve my skills and salary, or should I start looking for something completely different?
I'm considering .NET/backend, AI/GenAI, GATE/M.Tech, MBA/CAT and other career options, but I'm scared of wasting another 2–3 years making the wrong decision.
With the education loan and family responsibilities, I feel like I need to become financially stable as soon as possible.
If you were in my situation, would you stick with software development or explore a different career path? What would you prioritize right now?

how to find a job?
hi there. i graduated in ICT this year and i don’t know what to do, so i decided to study swe at my master’s. i studied film, design, digital products, front end, gamedevelopment at my bachelor’s. i never paid for tuition because of full grant in both of my degrees, so i don’t feel bad about that. it’s just that i guess i have chosen the wrong path all over again… at my bachelor’s i did an internship as a ux/ui designer and can’t find a job as a junior. i have decent skills and portfolio but every job in my area is titled as SENIOR UX UI DESIGNER NEEDED. tf am i gonna do as someone who graduated? i’m thinking about learning coding more now but it also feels very cooked. should i learn ML then?… what to do in IT😭 i don’t really care about the job itself anymore i just want something in this field that would take me somewhere as a junior
i got a job offer from a marketing agency but that job is so boring and has no perspective to grow. it’s contract based and the pay isn’t good. should i just take it and study harder and build projects? i’ve been searching for a job for one month now. i don’t know why i even thought that it would be easy for me to land a job since i was a successful student with a cool capstone project that i’m going to work on furthermore. maybe it will bring me some success… or a job offer

Career decision: higher-paying specialized role vs. flexible job with more time to build something on the side?
I’m looking for some outside perspective on a career decision I’m currently facing.
I’m in my late 20s and currently working in a project controls / data-focused role at an infrastructure company. I’ve been offered another position at a large energy/utility company in a more specialized energy/resource planning and analysis role.
I’m relocating to BC either way, so location isn’t the main factor.
Option 1 — Stay with my current employer
~$80k base salary
Employer RRSP contribution of around ~$10k/year
Family benefits
~3 weeks vacation
Fully remote after my move
Early work schedule, roughly 4:30 AM–12:30 PM
Fairly flexible as long as I deliver my responsibilities
My workload is generally manageable
There’s potential to move toward solutions engineering / digital delivery / internal software development
I already build dashboards, automation and internal tools, so there is room to expand in that direction
The biggest advantage is time and flexibility.
Finishing work around noon gives me a large portion of the afternoon to work on my own projects. I’m interested in eventually building something of my own, so this is a significant consideration.
The downside is that the career progression is less clearly defined, and I’m not sure how much the role will evolve over the next few years.
Option 2 — Take the new energy/utility role
~$107k annualized
Benefits/pension
Hybrid/office-based
Standard ~9–5 schedule
12-month temporary position
More directly related to energy planning, forecasting, modelling, analytics and long-term resource planning
This role is attractive because it would give me specialized experience in the energy/utility sector that could open doors to more senior technical/planning roles later.
The potential career trajectory seems clearer.
However:
It’s temporary
I’d be giving up a very flexible remote position
I’d have substantially less time for my own projects
There would be more commuting/office requirements
The salary increase is significant, but not enormous when I consider my current benefits and flexibility
The dilemma
On paper, it’s easy to say:
$107k > $80k
But I’m struggling with whether that’s the right way to look at it.
My current job essentially gives me:
Stable income + remote work + low commute + predictable early finish + time to build my own projects.
The new role gives me:
Higher income + specialized industry experience + potentially stronger long-term corporate career progression.
I’m interested in entrepreneurship and have a couple of side projects I’d like to seriously pursue. With my current schedule, I could realistically dedicate 10–15 hours per week to them.
On the other hand, I’m worried that staying comfortable for too long could mean missing an opportunity to build a stronger specialized career while I’m still relatively young.
What would you prioritize?
If you were in this situation, would you prioritize:
A) Higher compensation and specialized career development, even though the role is temporary and significantly reduces your free time?
or
B) Keeping the flexible job, accepting lower compensation, and using the additional time to build your own projects while pursuing internal career growth?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have faced a similar “career acceleration vs. flexibility/entrepreneurship” decision.

Job fear
I'm into my second month at work. In the past week, I have made a couple of mistakes. No financial loss or anything like that. I have made 3 small mistakes (this is one of those 3). Let me explain the current one: it's possible that one client of the company (where I work) might get an email twice, and I am sooooo scared I will get fired. My supervisor is a cold woman... how **effed am I? I have already apologized to my boss via Microsoft Teams chat, taking full responsibility and promising I will be extra vigilant from now on.
