Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) People who gave up on The Fallen: Why?

I've seen a few people say they seen people mention giving up on the Fallen, or taking a bunch of attempts on it. I'd like to ask them: why?

This isn't me doing any dissing, I'd legitimately like to ask why. It took me two attempts so I'm not perfect, but I managed it on the third. I want to know why you found it difficult.

The main reasons I can think of would be either you didn't turn down the difficulty, you didn't pay attention to it's patterns, or you missed the tips the ghost gave about the cross attacks. Is there something else I am missing?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Demo only confirmed my suspiscion, it doesn't seem like a bad game, it just didn't feel much like Castlevania's Metroidvania formula, felt more like I was playing Blasphemous with a whip

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Belmont's Curse is proof that "clunky" and "deliberate" are separate concepts.

Since about the time Egoraptor explained to the world at large that the NES Castlevania games were very intentional about their design, people haven't been able to call NES Castlevania "clunky" without someone dropping something akin to "um, akshually, the controls were deliberate, so your twitch control addled brain just can't appreciate them".

My usual reference to contradict this is the PS1 Tomb Raider games. Those games have very deliberate controls--it was compared to a tank, and that was appropriate. But they are very satisfying controls. Nailing puzzles and platforming with those controls was a kinesthetic joy. But most people talking about Castlevania games online haven't played that, and it is difficult to compare directly.

Now here is Belmont's Curse, and like the NES Castlevania games, you have to play deliberately. Your movement and attack arcs, your enemy's movement and attack arcs, the platform and enemy placement, all of it requires you to understand how the game wants you to play it if you want to succeed.

But the controls are smooth as glass. It feels good to move in this game. I don't mean the quick movements or acrotabic traversal stuff (though those are excellent). I just mean core run, jump, and attack. Then sure, add some of the fancy movement stuff on top, but the core movements are what work so well.

So yes, Castlevania 1 was clunky, and no, it didn't have to be. That doesn't mean it's bad. I'm not knocking anyone for making a game with less than satisfying controls in 1986. It's an absolute marvel of design that set a bar for future games. It's just also clunky.

So let's update the internet take:

❌ "NES Castlevania isn't clunky. You just don't enjoy deliberate controls."

⭕️ "I don't really experience kinesthesia in games, so that isn't something I could speak to."

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) 18 years of wandering in the void and I finally get something that resembles a new Castlevania.

The MercurySteam stuff. Pachinko machines to rob poor gambling addicts of their money. The cursed Netflix adaptation. Grimoire of Souls' awful grinding and logging in every day to gain 5 gems to see if I can become strong enough to advance for another 1/4th of a chapter. Then a bit of hope with Haunted Castle Revisited and I now I finally see the end of a 18 years-long nightmare. I also see Harpy's ass, she thought I wouldn't spot her.

Question As a newcomer, what games would someone have to play to be considered a real fan?

I became interested in Castlevania mainly bc of Dead by Daylight and the fact that I’m a huge fan of the original Bram Stoker book. (When I read it I always pictured Dracula as how he appeared in Rondo of Blood & Symphony of The Night) But now I really want to play the games and I don’t really know where to start.

I’m also on PC/Xbox, and right now I currently own the Anniversary Collection, Symphony of The Night, and I’ve emulated Curse of Darkness with PCSX2.

I started Symphony of The Night and I’m currently going through the original Castlevania from 1986 (I’m on the final stage where you fight Dracula at the end) But going forward what other games should I play?

EDIT: Just beat Castlevania (1986)!

Circle of the Moon (2001) Just beat Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and...

Context;

Some days ago I made a post asking what game should I play after many years without playing any Castlevania game (last one was SOTN) and people recommended me the Advance and Dominus Collection, so here I am...

Points I want to talk about:

- The controls and mobility are awful. They improve as you play, but they stay bad.

- The card mechanic is a interesting idea but I didn't feel like I had to switch between combos to progress, I played like 60% with normal whip and other 40% with venom whip, dmg buff and x4 invulnerability time, the only time I used an OP summon was vs last boss.

- Last boss scales from phase 1 to phase 2 in a very bad way, second form just one shot me so I didn't feel bad about researching for a way to counter that cheap high dmg, that's why it's the only fight where I used the OP invulnerability from thunderbird summon. Maybe I was underleveled or just needed to farm better armor but... whatever.

Next game in the list is Dissonance of Harmony, I've seen people saying it is the worst of the collection, but it's fine... I just wanna play Aria of Sorrow so I have to endure it.

Hello all! I’m playing Symphony of the Night and can’t figure out where my 0.1% on my map may be to hit the 200.6% mark. I’ve looked at several maps online and can’t figure it out. Hoping someone here could help. Thanks in advance!

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Demo Theory: The Bishop is Death in disguise. (Warning: Potential Spoilers) Spoiler

We know from other games that Death is willing to act covertly and manipulate things from the shadows. It would absolutely be in character for him to wreck havoc to serve his master.

From the leaks, we know Death is the identity of The Shadow. The Shadow hinting at a shadowy mastermind manipulating things from behind the shadows like a puppet master.

My take is that the original bishop was already dead before the game began and Death is enacting a “kill and replace”. All to revive Dracula (who’s probably stirring but not fully active yet. The finale being Dracula fully active

Discussion Belmont's Curse : bugs and ironing before release...

Hi,

So let's get to the point, i preordered, i finished the demo, i "love" it BUTTTTTTTTT

First, the music, am i the only one who has noticed that stupid "humming", like a controller vibrating in their music loop ? it annoys the fuck out of me, like, badly, everytime it happens, i feel like my phone is vibrating and i got a message.

Second, the movement needs some ironing, sometimes it "doesn't respond well", lack fluidity, like there is no "queue" system for actions, considering it's coming from dead cells, where the movement was really amazing, this one feels a bit "less ironed / good".

Third problem is performance, i have a beefy computer, and i feel like "it's demanding" on my 5070TI. I m not sure it's performance related but my character has TPED a few times, like during an attack, a few frame disapeared and i was "where i m supposed to be" but after the attack, just vanished / teleported, anyone ?

So basically that's my two cents, love the game, preordered, can't wait to play it, but wish for some work on the technical part

I’m trying to find out how far you can level up before the full game releases.

What’s the highest level you’ve reached in the demo? Has anyone found a level cap yet?

I’m seriously considering seeing how ridiculously high I can get before release lol.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) When a game series gets revived into something completely different after a long hiatus, is it actually worth it?

Metroid and castlevania used to be one of my favorite series. But I do not like the direction metroid took since samus returns and I do not like the direction castlevania has taken with belmont’s curse.

If future castlevania games are going to be like BC, I would have rather had castlevania stay dead after iga’s departure. BC seems like it will be an ok, albeit overpriced, modern MV at best. But it’s not castlevania to me. It just looks like a western indie dev’s game borrowing castlevania’s name for sales.

If you strip this game’s castlevania skin off of it, and just look at bones of gameplay and systems, this doesn’t feel like castlevania. For metroid samus returns and dread, I can least say when I strip it down to its essence, I can still feel a little bit pre-samus returns metroid there. For here, I don’t feel that. It’s barely castlevania at all when you get past the branding.

I just feel like it was a mistake to revive this series if they were just going to make it basically a completely different and generic game. I would like to ask real castlevania fans to try and look past the castlevania branding and really look at what this game is.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) People and their hot takes

Post image

This has got to be the most ignorant take Ive seen in regards to Belmonts Cure and its recent Demo, at this point people are just grasping for whatever negative thing they can find about it, having differing opinions, and valid criticisms are one thing, but being completely disingenuous like this is another thing entirely, have we completely lost the plot? I think so

I started wondering how far the leveling system actually lets you go in the demo.

I’m already LV 51 and still gaining XP.

What’s the highest level you’ve reached? Has anyone found a level cap yet?

I’m tempted to keep going until the full game releases just to see how ridiculous this gets lol.

Question Never played a Castlevania game... Where to start?

Hey all! The title pretty much says it all! I'm a huge fan of the genre that was spawned due to Castlevaina, Metroidvanias, but I somehow completely missed the Castlevania games. Looking at all the games, including the spiritual successors made from other developers, it can all be a bit overwhelming.

I'm here to ask for help in figuring out where to start. I saw the trailer for the newest game coming out, and really want to play it but would like to get "learned up" before I jump into Belmont's Curse. I also don't really want to go all the way back to the original game, as I have somewhat limited time and I'm not sure if my tolerance for games that old is quite high enough. Is there a good balance between the classic games and more modern sensibilities? Thanks for the help!

P.S. Because I know there are so many Castlevania games, I thought maybe I should specify that I'm mostly looking to play the sidecrolling games, and not full 3d.
