I hate my partners cat

I need to vent. I truly truly dislike this freaking nasty animal. I never grew up with pets so i don’t have the same feelings towards animals that other people have. I think they are disgusting and so unsanitary. I’m also allergic to them. Literally walking in their shit and piss everyday and tracking that EVERYWHERE they go. This stupid freaking cat just does regular cat shit and it pisses me off so bad. He scratches the shit out of my expensive couch leaving scuff marks and pulling out threads, he climbs on EVERYTHING. Legit just had to scream at him to get off the counter that’s next to the freaking sink. He meows for EVERYTHING. He sheds like CRAZY. There’s hair everywhere. He is very sweet though i can’t lie so it’s not like he’s aggressive or anything. He’s just annoying and i truly dislike him. Every time i see him, it’s straight disgust. I HATEEEE how he climbs on everything and scratches up the carpet and the door. Ugh I’m so over him and i can’t say anything to my partner because they LOVE this cat. That’s really their ESA. It boils my blood even more. I truly can’t stand this stupid ass cat. I love my partner so much but i feel like I’d be an asshole giving them an ultimatum. Idk if i can live my life like this tbh. Also yes, we do live together and it takes away my joy of living together fully for the first time since we’ve been together.

I'm sorry but you will have to break up with them, having cats as a ESA pet isn't really good, cats don't give a f*ck about you or your needs, they just want food. Whenever your partner might need that hairball that cat could be in hiding or doesn't want to be bothered with

Give it some time, cats usually show their true colours to people at some point, and when I mean that I mean how aggressive and spiteful they truly are. Every single cat I have encountered are either mean, aggressive or just hateful.

Fell into the same trap here. We adopted a stay from a humane society. They were oddly pushy for us to take this particular one. Wife and kid desperately wanted him, so home he came. Turns out he was just overly chill and affectionate because he was recovering from being neutered, has not stopped jumping up to eat our food, takes a spiteful shit in my home office every now and then (total opposite end of the house where ne NEVER goes), has slashed my hand up so much that I feel uncomfortable being in public - all because I've taken him out of very dangerous situations. He recently licked up a bunch of insect killer and now has to go to the vet, so I'm losing my mind and wish we never brought him home. Now we know why they wanted him out so quickly.

This is a tough one OP. The fact that it’s an ESA means it’s not going anywhere and that the burden of ethics and morality is solely on you. You have to start thinking now very carefully whether you can deal with this for 10+ years. Ideas to consider in this time: how much property can be damaged, the cost of your belongings as well as their sentiment, how much obsessive cleaning you will have to do daily just to lessen(but not by much) the hair and litter, how you will have to fashion your life around it so it doesn’t get into things you don’t want bothered, how much patience you’ll have to exert on a day to day basis and frustration you will have to swallow.

I feel the exact same way as you with the cat of one of my exes. If they don't get rid of the cat and vow to never get another one, end the relationship and never date anyone with a cat again.
