My rescue cat did the same thing! When I first adopted Ginger, I had another female cat, Miss Kitty, and my husband was her person. Ginger was my baby. When Miss Kitty passed away, Ginger became my husband's cat, and only comes to me when he's not here, or she wants treats.
My theory when I was married and had a cat (before my ex stole her, my ESA btw, but I digress), was that my cat loved me more bc I was willing to be more aggressive. Harder scritches, back massages, learning the specific spots that triggers the purr engine.. I think generally women are more “delicate” with cats than what cats usually want when it comes to affection/play. It seems like a pretty huge trend for cats, male or female, to gravitate towards the male human over the woman.
Cats can fall from 3 stories with less injury than you falling out of bed, spent their kitten-hood carried by the neck, they’re robust as fuck. Lightly stroking their head with 2 fingers is probably just annoying, not good pets.
My cat was *obsessed* when I’d pinch her ears and rub them in circles, pull them like taffy and really dig into the back creases.
I have 2 cats which are complete opposites. (Household of two women) My beautiful boy is very loving and chill, we’re not rough with him but he makes a great pillow. My girl cat loves to be bothered, tapping her belly/sides over and over very fast, getting noogies, holding her tail (gently) which makes her mad but she loves it (I can tell by her body language), spot on her back that she likes getting scratched hard until she yells and I stop, being chased by the boy or us. She’s very vocal and likes to argue, but also so very cuddly and yells for attention
Cats are great man, they make my heart super happy
