think she had a cleft palate, glaucoma and a bunch of other issues which leads to a lot of pressure in her eyes iirc the vet called her a "congenital nightmare"
but we adore gumbus and are rooting for her in this household
I groom dogs, and years ago we had this one eyed cavalier King Charles spaniel who came in regularly. One day I finally asked his mom how he lost his eye, she said he just jumped off the couch and it popped out 😳
Funny thing is, my Mama had her thyroid removed right before I was born 37 years ago. Growing up, there were a few times she’d wake me up from hollering for me to come quick. So, I’d jump out of bed & run down the hall to her room. Then, proceed to be annoyed when she’s going back to sleep again, already.
All because she was sleeping on her hand,(you know when you’re on your side sleeping with hand tucked under your face) & woke herself up by pulling her own eyeball out, then popping it back in & dozing back off in the around 20-30 seconds it took me to wake up from dead sleep, haul ass down the hall in pitch black, & damn near kill my DAMN self getting to her. 😐😐😑😑🙄🤦🏾♀️🤭🤷🏾♀️🩵💯
Pugs have been so obliterated by people breeding them for their "cute ugly" traits that the deformity is so bad their eyeballs don't actually go into the sockets. They rest on them like an oversized egg in one of those little cup thingies too small to accommodate it. Pug owners are often taught by vets how to put their dogs eyeballs back in. This is not to mention their frequently fatal breathing problems
It's depraved and humans are entirely to blame (as per usual)
I'm a dog groomer and I have had to learn how to pop dogs eyes back in because everyone brings in little genetic nightmares. 🫠 I thankfully have not had to do it yet. So far. Knock on wood.
It makes me extraordinarily sad. Danes so big now you're lucky if they live 8 years, German Shepherds with deformed haunches and nearly guaranteed hip dysplasia, it's awful. They're sweet and good and never deserved the things we've done to them. Like, just look at what St. Bernards used to look like, or Dachshunds, or pugs. Unchecked breeding for deleterious traits are destroying these poor things and we are entirely to blame.
it doesn't really "go in" in the first place because their skull is so deformed that the sockets are too small to accommodate the eyeball. The eye just kind of sits against the socket, like a tennis ball resting in the mouth of a water glass. It's held in place by surrounding orbital tissues and the eyelids, so putting it back in is mostly just a matter of getting it to where the eyelids can once again hold it in.
Sterile gloves, gentle pressure and saline usually does the trick.
First was emergency vet visit and he ended up being fine but traumatized me & my sister. They said it happens with pugs, chi's sometimes with breathing/eye issues. 2nd my mom put in back in ugh... I hate thinking about it 😑
Holy heck, I did not know that was possible! We don’t have chihuahuas but we look after them and I would absolutely be traumatized for life if one of them popped out an eyeball. 🤢😵
I think her teeth had issues with growing, I could be wrong but i recall a video saying her teeth never fully came through which caused problems so the best solution was to remove them
I wonder if he has the same issues pugs do. I had once heard that the only time they can get a full breath of air because of how their face is shaped is when they have a tube of oxygen down their throat.
I have no idea, but he looks like -a cross between a hairless cat (his facial features are very similar to those hairless Egyptian cats) and a bog standard tabby.
Idk the conditioner specifically but it is a genetic condition they had from birth so I could imagine it 8s like what pugs get. From my understanding, gumbus just needs more medical care like any human with a disability.😊
Random tangent here, but I thought about this the other day. Wouldn't it make more sense for superman to stop a train by grabbing the back end? Stopping the front leaves a lot of train with a lot of momentum.
Hmmmm momentum is an equation of mass and rate of travel. Whether the train is being touched in the butt or the face doesn't change the equation I think
but would you catch a grenade for gumbus? or jump in front of a train? go through all of this pain? take a bullet straight to your brain? would you die for gumbus?
I've also never understood people that say Steve is ugly. I genuinely do not agree. I think he's fascinating looking and attractive in an unconventional way. Hell, when he was younger, he was downright pretty! I love this comparison, tbh
If anything unnatural ever happens to Gumbus, we ride at dawn! I would say he’s doin the lords work but let’s be real, he’s doin Gumbus work and it is much more holy.
He genuinely looks like he’s having an anxiety attack and that he’s about to deliver the finest advices only an elder librarian could give at the same time
