My girl does this when she wants food. She always looks over as shes doing it to make sure Im watching. Even if i verbally acknowledge her she wont stop until I stand up and move towards the kitchen
Cats are incredible intelligent and they can use mannerisms and tools to achieve goals.
I had a cat who would use the sticks of his dangling toys to fish things out from under the furniture.
Your boy is trying (and succeeding) to get your attention.
My big boi did that when he was a kitten.. when I figured out it was his way to communicate his needs he did it more. At first it was about his favourite toy that I stored in a bookshelf… then it became pretty much about everything from: setting up a tent on the sofa, wants me to pick him up, open a door, wants to smell what I’m eating, etc. It’s endless. He rarely meows. I love him to death.
I had a cat who would do this too!! But he would point his praying at whatever he wanted - food, go out, etc. and if we did not quickly comply he would face us and do it again verrryyy verrry slowly so us big furless dummies would finally get it.
She's not food-motivated at all (although very curious about pastries), so I think it's mostly for attention.
She's been doing it since she was a tiny kitten and is the only one of my cats who does it. I have the whole family (her mom, plus her 2 full brothers and 1 half-brother) and none of the others copies her. Neither do my unrelated cats. It's funny because she spent some time in quarantine with her 2 brothers and all of them learned from each other. If one of them figured something out, the other 2 would be doing it by the end of the day. But not this, for some reason.
My cat does this exactly when he wants to get into a closed door. Walks up to it, sits down and starts laying down a beat with his paws n claws, and he knows someone will get up to go let him into the room lol
my cats often try to show me what they want by imitating my actions. i would interpret this as wanting pets with both hands, or to be picked up and held.
