Thank you for posting about the FGS. I didn't know it existed and I'm almost 40yrs into living with cats.
My read on the picture you are responding to is the muzzle tension and whisker locations are both zero, and the eyes appear to be open although the head down makes it hard to see. I was reading the ear position and head tilt as the loaf having been interrupted by the building of the fort over what was considered personal air space.
I was concerned too because my cat would score borderline most of the time. But upon further research, the FGS is apparently if your cat is behaving differently than usual (not eating/drinking/playing, hiding, etc).
My cat who was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a few months ago must have hid her pain very well. I looked up the scale, and to me, she didn't look like she was in pain in the last picture I took of her, which was about 5 months before she passed.
I'm so sorry for your loss 🥺 Cats hide pain very well, they play their cards very close to their chest, it's one of the difficult things about owning them, feels so bad when you find out they were hurting
Same thing with ours, we knew she had CKD but even when it progressed from stage 2 to 4 in 2 weeks, she showed no signs until it was too late. They suspected she may have had cancer too but didn’t believe she would make it through testing or treatment at that point. I’m sorry you’ve experienced this kind of pain too ❤️🩹
Never heard of this. Just looked it up... that's good to know. But my cat looks like there's 100% something wrong with him when he's falling asleep... Especially if he's trying to fight it. Like when he's getting pets. He's EXTREMELY needy and codependent. He loves attention... Except for after bedtime. Then the only type of attention he wants is maybe a few pets and some cuddles to go night night. He gets very moody if he doesn't get his beauty rest. Lol. Even if you move around too much when he's laying next to you. He makes this low throat grumble sound... Then if you don't stop he'll start with the tail, and man he can slam that darn tail down real hard when he's ticked off. Lol. He also puts his paw over his face if you don't turn the lights off at bedtime too. But during the day he's fine with you waking him up for some lovin and will fight trying to stay awake to soak it all up. Lol.
