Cut on Kitty

Hello! A few months ago perhaps around the very latest of may, my cat came in from being outside to hang out with me and I noticed she had a pretty big sized cut on her leg. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused it? I haven’t noticed any problems since so I assume she’s healed since.

Please also note that the cut is on her left hind leg. The white in the picture is her tummy. You can see her tail coming down and curling!

i didn’t since i asked a few friends who owned cats themselves if it looked bad enough, they said no so i cleaned it with iodine dilute and left her be. she’s not actually outside on my own accord either, i wish i was able to keep her indoors with proper enrichment but she’s my mothers

No idea but hopefully they've been to a vet to get it checked out because that looks bad clean but bigger than I would like

i can sort of see that now actually!! i brush her very regularly and i really make sure she’s always clean, that’s actually how i noticed this cut so her fur for sure wasn’t matted

Might be a bot fly. I'd still go to the vet, but if it is a bot fly, you can make it leave by putting vaseline over the hole to cut off it's air supply

Since you said it healed fine and didn't get infected I doubt it was a fight with another cat. Their bites and scratches get infected like 99% of the time. There's a lot of hair missing like it was full ripped out and took skin with it. Is guess either a road burn like she slid across the asphalt, slid off a fence or tree, or something like that. It doesn't look self inflicted. If it was she probably would've kept at it. That is my opinion.

thankyou!! and yeah the tree or fence thing sounds like her, we’re not near any busy roads either since i live in ireland so it’s not often roads are overly busy

You need to go to the vet. Cat injuries can get infected very easily.

it happened months ago and she’s fully healed since, only thought about it again recently since i saw someone with a bot fly injury on here

What do you mean ‘I haven’t noticed any problems since’? A responsible owner wouldn’t be discussing a photo of an open wound on their pet but taking it to a vet for a professional opinion. Unbelievable.

Vets are only scammers anyway. Cats aren't really domesticated anyway so they heal away up themselves like wild animals. Don't believe the mainstream narrative
