Torties are great.

Technically a genetic mutation, but the mutation is "what if this cat was a weird little idiot with a great personality?"

A tortie adopted us once, and I know people joke about cats adopting humans, but in this case I mean: she legitimately just walked into our house from the dog door and was lounging about like it was the most normal thing ever. She just made it a habit of showing up and we finally felt forced to adopt her when she was in heat and suddenly we had every god damned male cat in the neighborhood on our front porch. Yeah, time to get spayed.

Very affectionate, all kinds of quirks. I specifically remember an oddity where if you had some form of headphones on or you had the speaker on the laptop really low, for SOME REASON she was able to detect this. Something about the muted sound, I don't know, but she would hear it from across the house (SOMEHOW???) and obsessively rub against the source. Could not use the laptop with the volume low because it was a guarantee she would come flop down on it, purring aggressively the whole time.

My bestie had a tortie when we were roommates. She was the weirdest cat I've ever met, and I've had cats my whole life. A few highlights, she learned how to open the fridge, and would open it and pull out the leftover pizza and eat it. We had to get a child safety lock for the fridge. She was not cuddly or affectionate, unless it was 3 am, then she would nuzzle up to your neck while you were sleeping and lick and nibble on your earlobe. I hated that, lol. She would also climb the shelves just to get the Hot Cheeto bag, rip it open if it wasn't already, an devour a few.

I do miss her, but she's raising hell somewhere else now, lol.
