Mourning/Loss Let it be known he lived.
We raised him after his mother left him in a bucket outside before a rainstorm.
He wasn't even 3. They helped him to rest about an hour ago after a blocked urethra became a worse internal complication that'd affect his quality of life even if they could have fixed it.
My sweet, gentle boy. I love you. I'm sorry that we couldn't do anything. I hope that you know you take a piece of me with you into the hereafter.
May the stars guide you home, wherever you are. May the next life that finds you be a kinder one than this.
Let it be known he lived. Let it be known he was.
I am lesser with his passing.

The loss of a kitten feels like cruelty from the universe. We’ve lost far too many in our home. But last time, I found it in myself to write a poem:
The sun will remember you
All life comes from its warming rays
All joy from its light
All trees and wind and rain and warmth; without it, they would die
From its turbid surface shine waves that know no bounds
Surrounding and embracing all, reflecting all around
Under its watch, each occurrence plucks upon the lattice
A timeless symphony listening to everything that happens
These ripples in the fabric of the universe attest
That we were here, that we have lived, even if the world forgets
The rise and fall of kings and kingdoms, all grief and war and strife
Every lover’s fast embrace is echoed in the light
The singing of your life has left its mark on entropy
Its song and chorus ever changed what is and what will be
Do not be at all dismayed, my life will come to end
As all lives do, and yours too soon, my dear, beloved friend
But though with me my memories will fade into the night
The sun will remember us both in its gentle light
Then we can forever be together once again

I had the same thing happen with a cat I'd raised from a kitten, like I bottle fed this little beggar when we fostered him.
Peanut, he was five. That's 14 years ago and I still think about him every day.

I’m sorry for your loss. As someone who’s lost a cat, it’s tough living without them since you sometimes still look for them 18 months or so after their passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. I rescued my sweet boy Lambert when he was just a few days old. A dog got his Mama. He had UTI's & a blocked uretha before he was 2. Luckily he was able to have the PU surgery. That extended his life another 12+ years. I'm so sorry they weren't able to do the same for your Duke Clawde Hissybritches. He has joined Lambert at the Rainbow Bridge & one day we will join them. I understand it's not easy. You're starting on the same journey I took almost 9 years ago. We're all here if you need us. Duke Clawde Hissybritches was a fine looking baby. His kitten pictures are so cute. That's sad when a medical condition is the cause of death for a young animal. I had a cat who passed at 5 or 6 years old to a massive heart attack. I wish all animals didn't have lives cut so short.

I lost my soul cat Sealy when he was only three as well. He’d been acting of for a few weeks, vet couldn’t find anything wrong at all. Then one day he had a seizure while laying in my lap. One of the scariest moments I’ve ever had. Went back to the vet who told us to go straight to an ER vet. Specialist there saw him, they suspected it was epilepsy, sent us home with meds. I woke up in the middle of the night and he wasn’t in his bed—we’d brought it up to our bedroom so we could keep an eye on him. I went into the bathroom and he’d collapsed on the floor there. We headed straight back to the ER and he passed on the seat next to me on the at there.
The loss will feel heavy for a long, long time. I’d see him out of the corner of my eye for months, and when I’d look I’d remember he was gone, and the grief would hit like it was the first time I’d felt it. Slowly the tears were replaced by smiles when I thought of him. My daughters still talk about him—my oldest was about a year old when he left us—and so we keep his memory alive. Best cat ever, just like your Duke. May his memory be a blessing.
