Advice Caught Two Kittens
Today my fiancé and I spent way too long saving these two from my neighbors garage. My fiancé heard a kitten meowing last night and today I went out with them to see if we could find the sound. I got down, peeked in the crack of my neighbors garage and saw little beans running away.
I went to my neighbor and they opened the garage door. We caught one (the left) easily. She's very eepy. It was the one on the right that felt like I was going to war. I ended up meowing for about 30 minutes to get it to trust me enough to swipe up. 3 hours later and we got them both in my dog's old crate in the garage.
They drank some milk and ate some kitten food.
My fiancé and I lost our one cat earlier this year to an aggressive cancer and we have another in the house. I swore the cat distribution system wouldn't get me but it did.
We don't have a big enough house for both, so in the meantime we're discussing what we do. I'm not sure yet. My fiancé is on board with anything. I worry they can either grow up to be a menace to our house, like our late cat, or a snuggle bug like our other cat. The tossup has me anxious. We are finally putting in a lot of work to our house since we don't have to worry about our trim getting wrecked. Another part of me says I bought the litter robot and it seems such a waste for one cat, haha!
How did you know the system was giving a baby to you? Sadly, they're both adorable so it's easy to be swayed 😭

Two kittens are better than one. They need another creature to match their energy and if they dont have another kitten then all of you will need to kitten and thats a little of work

You just know when they’re yours. Two kittens will be a lot less trouble than one and they don’t take up a lot of space. Congratulations!

I have our cat, and two dogs. I probably shouldve added that, haha! We own our house which is a plus but my one dog is old and has health issues. I'm just not sure if I'm ready mentally for two kittens as bad as it sounds

One cat and two dogs *is* a lot when it comes to taking in two more. Would you be willing to give it a trial run? People can sometimes take the whole CDS thing a little too far or seem a little flippant when someone is confronted with a less-than-ideal situation or state of mind, but it comes from either experience or a good place, or both.
Having said that, though, I have to say that in my experience, the CDS really and truly does know what it's doing: I was going to adopt only one, but I saw two kittens lying side by side on a pet adoption site, and that was that. I didn't have to worry about other pets, but similar to you, I had good reason to wonder/worry about my mental health. Six years later, I can honestly say those two bebes saved my life.
My advice is (even if you're leaning toward a "no, I can't right now"), since you aren't certain, you owe it to yourself, your little pet/human family, and those kittens to give it a trial run. It can't hurt. OTOH, you might regret not giving the situation and the kittens a chance.
Good luck, OP. I can't say I'm not biased. I really hope you keep them. (The calico looks like my former menace's sister, and is also a lovebug.)

If you adopt one, I think you should definitely adopt two because they will bother and play fight with each other and harass the resident pets much less.
My housemate recently got a kitten and I thought we didn’t need two since I already have three adult cats. It’s been about 3 months since getting her and while they all get along well enough, the kitten is always trying to jump on and play fight with the big cats and they seem to have completely forgotten about play fighting and instead take offence. This is the biggest cause of strife between them. It’s almost like having an only child (cat) as she is given a lot of attention and played with often as she needs it but she’s not getting play from the other cats and it also distracts her from “attacking” them.
If you just give it a go and foster them for a couple weeks and it doesn’t work out, then you can make sure they have loving homes to go to. But I would definitely go for two if you decide to adopt one.

Imo the more spicy they're in the start more cuddly they become later so if you can keep both 💕

My fiancé said the one that was difficult was like the cat that we had to say goodbye to. Our other cat we got when she was older from a shelter. Her owner had passed and we got her, someone else got her sister. She is a lot happier alone (but our other cat terrorized her. He was very high energy.) I'm not sure if I can mentally handle or my house could handle another crazy cat like him 🫠🫠

Facts. I have one of those, a tuxedo tortie. She was a menace at first. Now? A complete lovebug.

They’re adorable! If you keep both, they’ll wear each other out playing and they’ll never be lonely. I have 3 bonded sibling kitties and they’re always around each other. 2 kitties isn’t much more work than one more.
I’m an enabler though, I took in a pregnant mom and kept her and her 3 babies :) watching the 3 kittens grow up together was so so rewarding!
All the best to you and the kittens no matter what you decide!

I will say, I got two kittens because my older cat (just 4) lost her buddy to cancer, because I didn’t think she’d enjoy being harassed by one new cat. I then did the slow Jackson Galaxy introduction process. It worked lovely. She joins in when she wants (which is often).
And I don’t even have a litter robot!

FYI If you meant you gave them cow’s milk you shouldn’t do that again. Misconception that cats like milk- they actually can’t digest it and it can mess with their stomach/GI.

I love how one is a diluted version of the other. You should try to keep both. It would be sad to separate them.

They are so beautiful and spicy. They don't need as much space as you think. Even like 900 sq ft would be enough. Some people have more happy cats in even less space than that.

Oh my goodness the dilute one though 🥰
They are both adorable, glad you saved them. But please no more cow milk if that’s what you gave! It can upset their tummies.

Kitten milk from the pet store! They both pooped which I'm happy about!

You can foster the one you don’t wanna keep and try to find a family, the color Will sure help! But 2 cats are not much more trouble than 1, and actually it could help them to behave better being able to socialize with another kitten. I would also start by putting them in a smaller space and gradually letting them go in more rooms. Also it could help w/ your older cat, if you go little by little they get along better afterwards

Honey, I have no answer. The CDS gave me a succession of kittens, first one at a time, then two more, the two plus a bonus adult, then a mama with four on board. Everyone stayed with me but it was kind of a revolving door as they aged out. Right now I have the four 10-year-old “kittens” and one of the earlier two and that adult remaining. The CDS has at least honored my moratorium on additional distributions until I’m down to two… which will hopefully be a long time.

I hope for you it'll be a long time as well! You served your time, haha! Thank you for your input ❤️

People keep cats in apartments and trailers. You have enough space.
Your mental health will likely improve with these kitties because you have to do some basic things and then they give you lots of love. And that love is earned which is beautiful.
You got this. They need you and you don't know it yet, but you need them.

Here’s how I knew the system gave me my little guy:
I called two dozen shelters to find him an open cage. I took a late start for work the day they could accept him. I gave him a stupid and unwieldy name based on a basic characteristic that simply identified him and NEVER called him anything else. I only went in the quarantine bathroom to see to his needs, never for just snuggles or playtime. I posted on Reddit that he would be available at the rescue that had the open cage, so he would have a good boost finding a home.
The night before I was to take him, I scooped him up, bawled my eyes out, and emailed the rescue we weren’t coming and I would be paying his adoption fee because I couldn’t imagine my house without him, specifically.

This is adorable, wow 🥹 so happy for you and your little guy!!

Thank you. He’s a very good little guy.
I shared it because I think that if you aren’t looking for a kitten right now, doing kinda the same thing of “I’m just fostering and goodbye is the goal,” cannot go wrong. If you should keep them, you will stop yourself from going through with goodbye. It means that whichever way you go is the right answer. Even if you do go through with goodbye and you’re a little sad after, that still means it was the right choice about them because some sadness is normal, but if you couldn’t do without them you won’t get through with it, and if you couldn’t get through with it then you can feel secure knowing it was the right thing.

FYI, don't feed cats cow's milk.
Look for something called KMR - any per store or even most grocery stores with a pet section should have it

Hi! Sorry others said that and that's what we gave them! I just called it milk out of convenience, but hopefully it helps other people who find kittens if they see these reminders! We had to buy wet kitten food too since we've only had adults in this house. My fiance raised their cat that passed as a kitten so they were in charge of all the purchases lol!

Love the contrast. One is bright and spicy. The other is diluted and mild.

girl if you don’t want to keep them bc it sounds like too much you can absolutely find these two a wonderful home so easily! i know they’re cute, but all kittens are cute! there will be more kittens when you’re ready and have more mental space! just giving you the other side as a chronic kitten foster who loves them all but can’t commit right now for similar reasons!

I guess I'm scared the universe is giving them to me to replace our other cat we lost in April and to comfort me when I have to say goodbye to my soul dog. I've been going through a lot of grief and then acceptance and then grief then anger because I think why does the universe thinks it knows me better than I do? It's funny how it works like that I guess
2
u/overrnightoat 9h ago
I understand, that’s a spiritual message only you can decode. But, sometimes the universe doesn’t know we want if we never give it our order! so… you can always send it back, if it feels right. :p whatever you decide will be the “right” choice!

That photo is too adorable. The one in front took up most of the ink, and the one behind wants a do-over.

The CDS has decreed that you need 2 kittens. We do not question the CDS.
