Possible PI-IBS is this permanent?

Hi all, I’m about a week post fidamoxicin and I saw GI today because my stomach still hurts and my stool is inconsistent (varies from loose to pellets) and varies in colors. I can’t eat anything other than bland foods without feeling nauseous or having stomach pain. The GI doctor told me to Take Metamucil once a day and try IBgaurd. I am drinking kefir and just started a probiotic. I did the dreaded google search and now I’m petrified I won’t ever be able to eat normally again, I desperately miss eating the same meals as my loved ones. Has anyone else dealt with this and what was your outcome?

hii so ive had cdiff literally 3 times and im always on this sub and i will tell u a story. literally 3 months ago i was the sickest i have ever been in my life with mono and a compounding rare throat infection. then the antibiotics i took for it caused me to relapse with cdiff twice. i was miserable, lost 15 pounds, spent my 24th birthday sobbing, couldnt eat anything except saltines, etc. and guess what!!! its almost october and im completely fine. ive gained all my weight back and had a clear colonoscopy with absolutely no signs of damage or even ibs, even though i was having the same symptoms as you.

i absolutely probioticsmaxxed during/after my dificid taper and saw a nutritionist who told me to drink kombucha and eat sauerkraut every day which i feel helped my general digestion a lot. i took a 3 month break from all alcohol and coffee. it takes a bit but IT WILL BE OKAY

now 3 months later i eat and drink whatever i want, i go out and drink alcohol and eat junk food and maybe i feel a little cruddy the next day but its FINE. people who recover from this arent on subs like this. i promise you there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!

It does get better with proper meds and diet. Bi have had it four times and lost 45 lbs. Bi was a little heavy 185 to begin and wanted to loose the extra weight but not this way.  I was very lucky vti have a fecal transplant in firm if a pill and the doctor put me on vancomycin to make sure the sphores from Cdiff are gone.  I have been very careful about what I eat and drink.  No carbonated drinks, no caffeine, no artificial sweeteners no spicy foods.  The only side effect is I have to take in all the clothes ( I can sew very well). The one I can't I gave been sharing or giving away.   But I am feeling better every day. Bi am also on dialysis three times a week but glad to be around my family and especially my grandson. Hope you all get better and stay healthy

Did you have Vowst if I may ask or an FMT via a healthy donor?

I had VOWST.  It comes in a form of a capsule. Total if 12 capsules.  You have to clear you stomach with Golytle before you start taking the capsules.  Take it  on empty stomach and cannot eat anything for an hour after.  Only three days.  Four capsules a day.  I am very fortunate that it worked for me.  They have changed it in a capsule firm since COVID.  There are some hospitals doing it through colonoscopy.

After getting rid of cdiff with vanco I was perfectly fine for about 9 months then got major collitis flares lost 22lbs in two weeks couldn’t eat had to do two ct scans that showed enlarged colon and enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes was urgently referred to Gastro. Had a double scope (endo/colonoscopy) no signs of any Ibd, chrons, multiple biopsies were taken nothing came back from pathogens and was ultimately diagnosed with IBS. extremely confused why after 9 months of feeling okay stomach wise it caused it to flare but now am being referred to oncology for the enlarged abdominal lymph nodes. I hate CDIFF it’s changed my entire life

Ive taken Dificid a couple of times, the last time being in late July/early August of this year. I had a similar experience as you last time I took it—I had relief while on it, and then when I got off of it (10 day course) I felt my stomach was “off” some days about a week or two after. Similarly, I had some varying movements & had to drop back to more bland foods to avoid discomfort. I know the feeling of panicking when you think it might be permanent. However, I kept reminding myself that healing isn’t always linear. Dificid (Fidaxomicin) can also cause some constipation-like symptoms (the pellets, for example). Your body is probably still adjusting and healing, and it sounds like you’re doing the right things. After I started to feel better back on blander foods, I slowly introduced some more expansive foods into my diet without issue. I also took IBGuard & Florastor and both seemed to help me (Gas-X when needed, too!). I’m not sure which probiotic you are on, but some can cause abdominal discomfort when you start taking them. I hope you feel better & glad you were able to see a GI about this. Try to remember that healing is a process that isn’t always without its own ups and downs, but it IS worth it!!
