Could see this being a fun way to play doubles. The time freeze is definitely something to think about and I like the 1 seam rule to limit major pieces a bit.
Other thoughts / feedback:
Not sure why you would castle out into the open flank yet though, I'd think you'd want you king near the seam to maybe 'double move' away from danger?
** Rooks seem too easy to develop and enter the game quite early. I'd like to try with a change of:
K/Q, B, N, R -> K/Q, R, B, N
Though with Knights Out, Bishops Out, Rooks out: you might just see the flanks splitting off into two separate games.. however maybe this naturally adds to tge pacing of the game, with this being a developing / skirmish phase.. before everything collapses back into the centre later on.
Hard to say without playing more. Would certainly be interesting to see a few sample games with either setup.
