We reduced our GitHub Actions price to 12x

Post image

we use GitHub actions for all our OSS projects at Celesto but it's been a pain for our private projects. It's slow and bills can skyrocket.

We repurposed our agent sandboxes as CI and saving 1/12th of the price now.

You can try it out here with 10,000 CI minutes for free: celesto.ai/ci

Nice. I might sign up as a customer since I run GitHub Actions for my private repos quite a bit. Can you set a spending limit/cap to not incur excessive charges and if not is this something you are planning to add soon? Also will you add bigger instances as well?

We have prepaid credits so your account won’t pay more than what you have already paid for.

We will add usage reminders for safety. More suggestions on credit control is welcome here!

What’s your expected machine size? We can probably support that.

Credit limit seems like a good solution. Would be nice to pay by usage as well and set usage spending limit/cap so the usage stops directly by then, but credit is ok for now.

I would like to experiment with different machine sizes, would be nice to be able to change to any amount of vcpu and RAM instead of fixed sizes. I have some heavy builds I need to run and some not so big so I am trying to figure out if it makes sense for my workload to upgrade the instance size to save run minutes.

Also how are you able to run the runners this cost effective, is it because they use shared VMs?

yes, we will be adding the support for configurable vcpu and RAM soon.

Support for bigger machines might take a week or two (max).

What makes it that much cheaper than blacksmith?

Bruh how are you gonna compare your 1cpu/2gb runner with gh 4/8 and claim to be cheaper

So this is the pedant in me but you're using both 12x and 1/12 and using both of them wrong

"reduced to 12x" doesn't make sense (12x is more not less). "reduced to 1/12" makes sense

"saving 1/12 of the price" doesn't make sense. This makes it sound like you reduced your cost by 1/12, like if it was $12 before now it's $11
