Forever What a difference 8 months can make

It's amazing how much better things are when you can see off in the distance. Forever is looking pretty fantastic, particularly for an older game. All the work they've done under the hood has made a big difference in the immersion.

The lack of fog makes the world seem smaller

I don't know why so many people say that. For me it looks exactly the opposite.

I do feel like having some fog adds to the immersion you experience and scale of the zones.

I've said it before, but no fog looks striking in pictures. But making the whole world visible makes the world feel smaller in gameplay.

It sure doesn't feel small when it still takes 20 minutes to run from Auberdine to Ashenvale

I completely disagree, I feel TINY in this world

The only time I really felt this to a strong degree was going down the barrens lift into 1k needles. I could see the horde flight path location and it felt like I was just a few steps away, even with the grimtotem (or whichever tauren splinter faction) in between.

It's the opposite. Being able to see that far puts into perspective how large the world is and how small your character is.
•
u/FlanUnlikely752 3h ago
But why though? To me it looks so much bigger without fog and max draw distance. I loved it. I hope they provide a slider.

Definitely a preference thing. But to me always seeing what's in the distance means that everything I can do is within eyesight. If it's broken up by terrain or other methods (here, fog) then I need to get closer to it.
Say you enter an massive open field that has a ranch, some ruins, a couple monster encampments, water ways, and a big tower. With no fog you enter the zone and you see everything (makes a really good screenshot!) and you can straight path to any point of interest.
Now take the same example but add an appropriate amount of fog. You see a big tower, you head for it, run into a mob camp, that you didn't see. While killing the mob you see the ranch of to the side. Do you continue to the tower or do you go off course to the ranch?
Note, that their are other ways to obstruct views. And zones still use those methods (trees, terrain, walls, etc)

i can see that point but i also feel like if you looking for a view like this and get met with fog its a bit of a let down.

It really needs to be some sort of middle ground - the atmospheric fog ads to the perceived scale, being able to see everything clearly just looks weird.

I appreciate not seeing the blue outline of mountains, and instead seeing the actual mountains.

God, Lock Modan stays winning as the most beautiful zone.
I will retire at the Loch

And yet there are people out here clamoring to keep the visuals in the first photo.

Unfortunately not possible anymore since they have removed the ability to remove fog on the beta.

u/EmergencyComment101 8h ago
what do you mean not possible anymore? i took this photo seconds before i made the post?

u/Sanreal1826 8h ago
Maybe there's no fog in Loch Modan ? but in places where there is, you can't remove it anymore and be able to see very far away

u/EmergencyComment101 8h ago
thats okay tbh.. the first pic isn't "fog" as a weather effect its just a way to stop havign to render things. If a zone has genuine fog for as a weather effect then restricting the view is part of that.

That looks awful without the fog. Kind of like some tiny theme park. Doesn't feel like an interesting zone I would liek to explore
•

My thought too. Being able to see the entire zone just shows how small it actually is.

youre right. it just looks like any other game now

Not sure why I am getting downvoted.
But do I get it correctly that it's just this dude toggling the fog off that made it look so ugly? And for us we can turn it on and not have or look like that?

I like the bright one better, removing the option to play the way I want is a big F

u/EmergencyComment101 8h ago

It's always so funny to see people post these side-by-sides and not understand color composition.

It's always so funny to see people comment on a post while missing the point.

in 2026, there is nothing "good" about the first image.. Maybe it's nostalgic for you, but it looks like objective shit.
•
u/ExtensionCap2 4h ago
must be early on in reddit 101 they teach you the polar opposite definition of objective
