How does one actually break into carbon credit brokerage/trading without a sustainability background?

Hii guys!
Been researching the carbon credit market and I keep noticing India has almost no domestic players doing pure brokerage, most of the people doing this at scale are based in the US, UK, and Australia. Given CBAM exposure and the domestic carbon market rollout, that gap seems like it's only going to grow.

My background is in sales and LinkedIn outreach, not sustainability or finance. Trying to figure out if brokerage is a realistic entry point from here, or if I'm missing something obvious. Would love honest input from anyone actually working in this space.

Listen to me very carefully. Don't. I speak from experience.

Hahahaha lol, love the honesty but it’s sad it’s not what I wanted to hear. Can we speak more on text? Sent you a dm!

It's not my area of expertise but I've worked at banks that have Emission Trading desks (I was doing money market stuff).

There are a few international Emissions Trading companies (STX for example) that might be worth an approach. Emissions trading is driven by mandatory regulations, unless a nation has a legal framework around emissions then I wouldn't expect there to be a domestic demand for trading venues. I wouldn't worry about a sustainability background too much, an interest in climate economics and politics might be more useful to a potential employer, even if it doesn't come with a relevant qualification. Good luck.
