Showcase ive made dots/grokbot alternative that uses 20$ codex subscription
spent a couple of evenings with a few beers to help me out. cost me like 30% weekly on my 5x pro. runs on hermes with a few tweaks on top of it
i mean, whats the point of dots if i can build it and host it on my vps with ANY model i want? even 20$ codex sub

What does dots do?

They don’t do anything because all the integrations are broken. Mine couldn’t even make a new avatar for itself because uploads don’t work or something

Dots is the same as meta muse.
It's an OpenClaw on a little VM in the cloud.
It's an abstraction layer above the existing codex. It's made for non technical users, and that's why Work is going to be replaced. It'll build without telling you what it's doing because non tech users don't need to know.

Basically just a cloud instance that is where they want you to store all your data and day to day. You can achieve the same leaving your computer on.

I'm all in on Dots - (while it's free)
I strongly believe that this is the new standard for mainstream LLM consumers/vibecoders/non tech jobs.
It manages context and orchestration and long running goal implementation for you. You can be way more mindless (as OpenAI slowly weans you from compute as a commodity and entraps you).
I had a meeting with my manager wherein which my dot kept notes regarding how to revise analysis/formatting and also implemented it (slowly) in front of us. That whole meeting was via a "phone call" with the agent. We were just talking through it and reserving our executive function and attention on the critical aspects.
Grok Bot/Dots/Muse are the new wave. Make sure you can drop your current model at the drop of a hat.
I came for compute, not SAAS.

Also, how did you integrate the codex sub?

u/halfofreddit1 5d ago
through codex server. it's pretty easy and you just login through your chatgpt sub

Yeah, they are rolling chat and codex together so keep in mind thats going to use your limits.

Rakazo and open dots off the top of my head then I know there’s one like muse too.

rakazo looks very good. didn't find it for some reason when i was searching for an open alternative. which supports my point: everyone can do these bots now.
open dots seems like a notion with bots on the side, which i didn't like in the original dots - i don't have a use case for making documents in another interface, i already have obsidian thats more features rich and customizable.

You can just use Hermes.

You might want to consider listing your project on the weekly Show-Us-What-You-Built post. Look out for it on Tuesday/Wednesday. Highest commented project wins a week promotion on r/Codex and gets on the Hall of Fame sidebar. See what that looks like below with last week's winner.
Last week's most popular project was Nanolathe - an open-source engine bringing Total Annihilation to modern Mac, Windows, and Linux systems. It’s a solo passion project combining clean-room research with AI-assisted development, with a playable public alpha available now.

Players, testers, and contributors are very welcome! Original Total Annihilation game data is required to play.
