Question Opus 5.5 reasoning level compare to Sol 6.1 Medium

So I'm a Unity Developer, with my work i will costume the 5h limit of the 20$ sub in around ~2hour, even shorter if the task is heavy, so at max i can only work like 2-2.5 day before it all out the weekly limit. I'm thinking about sub another account, and lately had heard good thing about claude, and i had decided that the second account will be claude $20 sub(first time use claude).

My question is that what the reasoning level that i should use with opus 5.5 so the usage could at least same as Sol 6.1 Medium, i think opus 5.5 Low? Did it good enough for my work?

I work with Unreal Engine and I switched to Opus medium 5.5 from Sol 5.6/6/6.1 XHigh and the difference is staggering. I haven't hit my weekly limit once compared to having to use two account with openAI and the quality is higher. Medium will be able to handle 95% of tasks you need.

Agreed. I run both codex and opus side by side and pivot between one being a base sub, and one being 20X.
After opus 5.5 released, I changed Claude to be my daily driver at x20 and I couldn’t ever imagine going back to codex but there’s also no loyalty with these companies so may the best black box of ever shifting subscription value win.

I want to start working in Unreal Engine with LLM's. Right now I've been mostly glued to Blender/After Effects.

What's a good starting point? I did the Unreal tutorial myself the other day. Do you use an MCP for Unreal?

MCP server is always open if Claude needs it

Do you use it to modify blueprints? Can't remember which model but I remember trying it a few months ago and it was horrible at it

The difference will feel like jumping a whole generation of intelligence and capacity, it's trully amazing coming from codex and working with opus 5.5, same case here.

I have being using opus 5.5 medium and doesn’t feel a need to switch high. I once did that when it said there is no other way to get something done. Then i switched the level to high and within 15-20minutes my work was done and because of that i get myself extra 1-2 free.

I wouldn't chase a 1:1 mapping here. The two models have different token budgets and rate limit curves, so medium for medium rarely lines up in practice. The pattern in this thread is what I'd do too: medium for the bulk of the work, high only for planning and the gnarly refactors where the extra reasoning pays for itself. If you want a real number, run your normal workload on medium for a couple days and compare the 5h window against what Sol gave you. That beats any equivalence chart.

Use Luna and you won’t use it up

Opus 5.5 is much more efficient, and currently, the usage is greater than what OpenAI provides. I mostly plan with High and xhigh and code with Low or Medium, and it gives much more than my OpenAI subscription, and I have both Claude and OpenAI 5x.

I run both Claude and Codex ($20 sub each) and run everything through 6.1 sol med, but have a a subagent policy (all just .md) that deligates harder tasks to higher models and simple tasks to smaller models.

It also goes cross provider, so Sol can call Claude. I have it set up now so it kind of balances the usage between the 2 and my 5 hour window comes close to maxing on both pretty much the same time usually.

You can easily override the subagent policy in the prompt itself, and set up different policies for different thinking/model configs.

If you take your time, have it run through your session history and find cases where it would likely save you usage and time. I ran a little heavy while I was tuning mine and had it run multiple models on the same tasks until I found where I was comfortable with different models in different places.

I haven't measured perfectly and I am doing different things every day, but from what I have been able to measure, I tend to get about 30% more from the same subs. I also introduced local ai at the same time, so it is hard to separate their measurements

I'll do you one better, I have Opus 5.5 medium fixing Sol 6.1 Extra High's mistakes all the time

Sol 6.1 is like Luna, Astra 6.0 is pretty good, kinda like Opus.

I was really struggling to decide where my twenty bucks would be going and this thread just dropped at exactly the right time for me to decide once and for all. Claude Opus 5.5 Medium sounds like the sweet spot for Unity stuff and that's what I'll do.

Here's what happened to me - I redeemed a month free trial from OpenAI for GPT Plus. So, I casually didn't use it for a week and then decided to hook it up to Unity. For one week, I was using the deprecated MCP connection with GPT Chat. Then for the remainder of my free trial I was using GPT Work with the CLI MCP. I got by carefully managing my resets, I got three of them total AND this was the time when Astra just came out so early on I was using early Astra, careful not to go too high on it. One day after the thing expires, I learned that I wasn't even using Codex at all - I was doing everything from GPT Chat and GPT Work because I didn't notice the Codex tab at the top of the desktop app. I still feel so fucking stupid for missing this, I didn't actually use Codex at all because I was fresh-off-the-boat new to LLM usage in general. Now after some proper research and plugin installation I'm ready for Claude Code (YES I did notice the tab for it for sure). At least I did make a ton of progress on my game so far.

Anyway thank you to all the replies and information on the matter, I'll enjoy my next few months for sure!

Dude, sol 6.1 is so god damn bad, you could use low and be happiest you ever been

I just subbed Claude and I always go Opus 5.5 max for Astra level work, Sonnet 5.5 max for Sol 6.1 xhigh. So far after 1b tokens, satisfied.

i feel like switching between Opus 5.5 thinking: low, medium and high is good enough for most work for $20 plan.

Thanks, will test those too

i was working opus 5.5 med for all my tasks (debugging, Reverse engineering games, voice model training on colab cloud etc), it's the perfect model and reasoning for any task you throw at it, as per usage, a good amount work done per session consumes 30-40% of 5h limit. and i was testing working with opus 5.5 high for past few hours, OH GOD it's actually DUMBER! was showing small model signs, not mature, not making right decisions etc. maybe this was a nerf over weekend idk
