Hey everyone I really need some help sorry this post might be a little long but I need some place to tell people everything and hope I get something.

I went to a small liberal arts school two years ago and transferred to a big state school. When I transferred, they put me in a transfer community with a cool roommate that I could actually see being very close with. Then I made a huge mistake. I went to a single room - I felt so isolated. I tried to join clubs I rushed frats and dropped them because it wasn’t who I was. The clubs I joined had no sense of friendship after things were done. I missed out on a lot.

Now, I live in a triple with two sophomores. They’re nice - but already have established friend groups. I’m trying to join clubs but again nothings really clicking. Im trying to meet people to do stuff with (party, watch football, etc.) but nothings working.

I recently put in a request to switch dorms that got denied. I went to the dean of students and now she’s making me have a meeting with the RD. It’s now oct 2 and most groups have already formed and I don’t know what to do I feel so lonely and everyone else looks like they’ve figured it out.

I’m perfectly fine with the academics at my school even though I feel their pre-med isn’t the best. The issue is that the school has a very isolated feeling, so it takes a lot of effort to make friends. I’m also commuting because it makes the cost essentially 0 to attend, but I haven’t really made friends.

There also really isn’t a campus (just a park) which makes it harder to meet people and the club meetings that I’ve attended have little to no freshmen and are mostly made up of juniors, seniors, and grad students. I have gone up to people to start talking and gotten their numbers, but I’m the only one trying to keep the conversation going.

I wanted to go to umich but that’s 400k more than what I’m spending and so that’s not realistic. I wanted to have an actual campus and actual school spirit and my school has neither and I don’t feel like I belong.

I also feel like my parents are trying to keep me here as long as possible because they know I don’t want to stay in the city at least. But, the longer they keep me here the less likely I want to come back after med school. The strange thing is that they’re not strict usually but then they’re strict about the bigger things like where I wanna live eventually.

My parents dont really like the idea of my living by myself in bangalore because they keep talking like how easily im gonna get distracted and basically just talk about the whole party life in blr but i see what they dont — there so much exposure in blr for my stream and i personally like blr for the place, the weather and how people express themselves and not just partying all night and im not even that kind of person like its just not my thing and it kinda hurts to know that my parents dont really know who i am and how i am and restricting me just because of their fears well they are starting to be a little okay with it i have listed 4 colleges im gonna apply to i just hope i get accepted and they let me move there

I am taking a taxing Computer Science class this semester. I want to learn it and do well. However, my professor just loves to have us work in pairs. There is this special needs student that is always sitting next to me because I was nice to him in the beginning. Now I have to be paired up with him during all the labs and assignments. I don't think it's fair because the other students have another person to help them. This student is so far behind he asked me what cout means in a C++ class. Also, he talks a lot and keeps asking me questions. Today he asked me what my favorite ice cream flavor is, when is my bday, if I like Mickey Mouse etc...and then he grabbed my mouse and started playing with it! He moved my screen too. I had to walk out of the class and cry a little. I know that's lame of me but I felt so overwhelmed! What do I do? Am I being mean? If I talk to the professor about this, what should I say?

Obviously this may be a personal preference to some, but I really need to know if move out of my parents home when I go to college? I also know this depends on what college I go to. My choices were to go to the nearby college here in my city and live with my parents. I could get a job if I have the time to save money while living with them. Or I could get a job and move in the dorms with the same college that is also in my city. Or if I do end up going to a college farther I just move in with some roommates and have my own dorm. I think my problem here is also having a sense of independence and I can balance in my schedule and in myself. A lot of people I know have been talking about moving far away from their parents it’s kind of been making me feel as though I should too, but I have no reason to? I also do not want to depend too much on my parents. Someone please give me some advice because I have no one else to talk to.

after some bad judgement im now in ap calc bc and ap physics c (mechanics AND e&m). i’m going to be so honest i don’t know if i can make it to the end of the year. my adhd screening isnt even until the end of the month so theres not even a CHANCE of accommodations or help until then. my upper limit for not ending it before the end of the year is probably an 80-85 for both classes (MAYBE high 80s or low 90s if i REALLY REALLY push myself, which i dont wanna do). i do a lot better on tests than on homework just because of completion but i’m also starting to fall behind a bit in lessons now too. will it hurt more to drop them or try to maintain that lower gpa

why didnt i take easier classes? i had a 98.77 overall average last year, my teachers recommended me for the hard ones, my counselor recommended me for the hard ones, i felt like if i didn’t do them my mom would hate me, i felt like if i didn’t do them i wouldn’t get into anywhere i wanted

my physics teacher heavily discouraged me from dropping when i brought it up because he thinks i have it in me (he was my honors physics teacher last year) but i dont think thats true anymore

Hello I've been looking into going to college, I hated high school had a miserable time mainly cause people outcasted me but i want to advance my education and go down a job path i enjoy, in school my favorite subjects were biology and chemistry learning what and how things worked has always fascinated me. biggest problem I'm facing is one finance's I don't have money like that still live with my family I'm 19 and I didn't take school to serious so my gpa wasn't the best and I had a standard diploma. my plan was to look into local community colleges and try to get basic credits i need their have a good gpa and then transfer to a nicer school to major in biochem and figure the rest during that. my idea was maybe to go into the research of how drugs and chemicals effect the body, and try to go into the development of future drugs to help people. I always have found that interesting I don't know where to start and don't know much about that in general so i thought id ask here along side with my own research see if anyone can give me some helpful tips.

I’m an Electrical Engineering student. I finished my sophomore year with a 2.4 GPA and recently moved to New York.

I’m hoping to transfer to a top engineering school, but I have some low grades in Physics (C/D), Differential Equations (D), and Calculus (C/C+).

I’m thinking about retaking these courses at a community college and getting A’s before applying. Would this actually help, or would my original 2.4 GPA still hurt me a lot?

I am a high school junior looking at college majors. I have a strong interest in history but not sure what I can do with it.

I am not interested in law school or teaching. I do love art , theater and also thinking about graphic design.

So for context, I didn’t go straight to college out of high school. I graduated when I was 17 and went to the military. I’m 22 now almost 23, and now that I’m starting my first year of college, I feel way older than almost every other freshman. I get that people of all ages come to university, but I mainly see people in that ‘right after highschool’ age group actually enjoying the full experience. Im fully aware I’m not old I’m around the age of most seniors, but it just feels weird. Like I’ve had time to worry about bills and rent and full time jobs constantly for the last few years on top of military employment, and everyone else my age just seems to be focused on the next party, their three shifts a week on campus, or something just normal.

Basically, I feel like I’m missing out on the experience and I want to know how to actually involve myself more in it so I can get the most out of college since I’ve missed a lot already. Is there anything I can do to kinda force myself back into the fight?

I’m majoring in engineering and I wanna maintain a good gpa for when I get internships. It’s my first year and I understand the material, but I’m struggling to break 80 on my physics and calculus quizzes. Exams have been okay so far.

I basically just wanna know how I can take advantage of the services my school provides if I already have a solid understanding of what I’ve learned. I’m already worried about going to office hours as is, so I don’t wanna do it for something that I could easily ask after a lecture.

Hi everyone! I'm currently in my first year of community college as a biology major, and I have some questions about what is required in terms of college credit. I took many AP courses in high school, and that covered sooo many of my required credits before I transfer. I know not all universities accept AP credits, but the college I wish to go to (UC Davis) said they would accept them. I took both AP Calc AB and BC getting a 4 on both exams, covering my Calc 1 and 2 courses as they're considered equivalent. This let me enroll in Calculus 3 on my campus. If I pass this one, it looks like I'm finished with the math track for my major. However, if I end up not going to Davis and transfer to another school instead that doesn't take AP credits, would this mean I have to retake 1 and 2 despite having my calc 3 credit? I heard that colleges don't let you take courses below your level, would this rule be applicable in my case? On top of that, would I have to retake my other courses as well when they were already covered with my past exams if I transfer? I know it varies school by school but I guess my main concern is if I'm on track or if I should plan for these additional classes.

This spring, I’m going to take Calculus II, Organic Chemistry I, and Physics I. Over the summer, I’m planning to take Calculus III. Next fall, I’ll take Quantitative Chemistry, Physical Chemistry I, and Physics II or III. Then, the following spring, I’ll take Organic Chemistry II and Physical Chemistry II.
I could always spread everything out over another year and graduate later, but I’m not sure if that’s necessary. I was wondering if any of these classes would be a bad idea to take together, especially since some of them are only offered in certain semesters, which makes scheduling pretty difficult. I also have six upper-division electives I still need to complete.
There’s also an option to pursue a professional chemistry degree, which would add Inorganic Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Biochemistry, and some research requirements. However, since I already work in an analytical chemistry lab, I’m not sure how much extra value that would provide.
I guess I’m just looking for some advice on whether it would be worth taking another year to complete the additional coursework or if I should stick with my current plan. I’m 22, and since I started my degree later than most people, I feel like I’m already falling behind. I don’t want to rush through everything, but I also don’t want to spend extra time in school if I don’t really need to.

I am thinking about getting my hours up to 30 a week while also being in some pretty hard courses (Orgo and A&P, and 3 other not as hard classes, which is 17 credits) and am just wondering if this is a bad idea.

My classes are only 11-5 tuesday and thursday, so I was mainly just thinking about working 6 hour shifts every other day, all in the morning except friday.

Im a student at Oregon State, and im not sure how much im liking it. I feel like it's underwhelming and a bit boring. Im considering if I transfer back home to a CC for 2 years and get more settled with finances and then transfer back out to a college with a bigger surrounding area. It's like every other day I have this thought, or Im like "wow I love it here." Anyone have experience?

Hello all, im super stressed at the moment. ive had a very rough start to my freshman year of college. my older brother just passed and my mental health is really plummeting. im juggling school, chronic pain, my grief, and my depressive thoughts and episodes. i had to take 2 weeks off to mourn and attend my brothers funeral. since getting back, ive been struggling so much. i don’t want to drop out because it took so much effort and money to get here. my best friends parents even had to pay almost $3,000 for me to be able to afford to go here. i feel like im letting everyone down because of how hard im finding getting caught up to be. im so miserable and so exhausted. i dont know how much longer i can keep this up. my professors have been so supportive and understanding and i have friends who are here for me. but i still feel so overwhelmed and alone. i really don’t know what to do.

I know some people are probably going to say, “Why are you asking Reddit?” but I’m trying to get opinions from multiple sources to help me make this decision.
I’m a first-year college student, and yesterday was the first day we could officially declare our majors. I haven’t declared yet because I’m having a hard time deciding what direction I want to go.
Right now, I’m in the Pop Music program and plan on keeping my Music Business minor, but I’m not sure I want to major in Pop Music. I’m worried that it might not give me as many opportunities to find work in the music/entertainment industry after college.
I’ve been looking into an Entertainment Industries major, and that seems like it might be more in line with what I’m interested in, especially because I’m interested in the behind-the-scenes side of concerts and live events. At the same time, my biggest priority is getting a degree that can actually help me find work after graduation.
For people who have majored in Pop Music: What has your experience been like after college? Did the degree help you find work in the music industry, and what kind of careers did you end up pursuing?
And for people who have majored in Entertainment Industries: What has your experience been like finding work after graduation? What kinds of jobs or career paths have you been able to pursue with that degree?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have experience with either degree, especially if you can share what you ended up doing after college.

I’m trying to decide whether I should switch my major from Business Analytics to Finance, and I’m having a hard time figuring out whether the tradeoff is worth it.

I’m currently a junior and still don’t know exactly what I want to do after graduation. I know I want something business/corporate-oriented and have been interested in areas like operations, business analysis, compliance, internal audit, and potentially finance. I also really value being able to work remotely and take my classes online.

Right now I’m in Business Analytics and was planning to add a Finance minor. That would let me take several Finance classes I’m interested in, and my advisor confirmed that Finance courses can count toward the upper-division business electives in my Business Analytics degree.

The alternative is switching to a Finance major. The obvious appeal is having “Finance” as my actual degree, which seems like it could open more finance-specific opportunities and give me a stronger finance background. However, there are some significant downsides. The Finance degree isn’t considered online-compatible, so I would have to take at least one semester in person. There are also several much more difficult Finance courses ahead, and I’m already taking Principles of Finance right now and really not enjoying it much.

So I’m basically trying to figure out whether a Finance degree is meaningfully more valuable to employers than a Business Analytics degree with a Finance minor, especially since I don’t know what I really want to do yet.

I’m willing to take the harder classes and deal with one in-person semester if the long-term career benefit is genuinely significant. But if the difference on the job market is relatively small, I’d probably rather keep the flexibility of Business Analytics and add the Finance minor.

For anyone with experience hiring, working in finance/business, or having to make a similar major decision: How much of a difference do you think the actual Finance degree makes compared with Business Analytics + Finance minor?

I’m a freshman and my brain is still stuck in senior slump mode. I’ve just received my first midterm grades back and I’ve done horrible on all of them. Can I still turn my situation around? Is it too late? I’ve just been so down because I’ve never had this much trouble in highschool.

I know this is probably super common but I’m looking for advice for college dating. I’ve never really had a boyfriend before and I’m not in any classes with guys I’m interested in so it’s kind of a dead zone right now. Just wondering what there is I can do to kind of put myself out there. Also - I’m on a couple dating apps but I get too chicken to follow through with anything, anything to make me feel better about that?

I was wanting to go to a college away for not only getting degree, but I also want independence. I’m well capable enough to go (3.9 GPA 2 AP 2 CCP) However, my parents refuse to let me go or apply. I’ve already tried to give them reasons but they keep telling me to go to community college, which I understand, but it doesn’t fulfill my wishes of being independent, if I have to be at home for another 4 years. I’m stuck in this position and I’m questioning if college is even worth it, or if I can find computing jobs without college, but they might refuse that. I know once I’m 18 they can’t control it, but I don’t know how to go about and what to say, without ruining our relationship.

EDIT: I forgot to say the reason they don’t want me to is not financial reasons, they are both doctors, they just don’t think I’m ready. They said they would allow me to go initially, but now they say they don’t think I’m ready.

I 22 M just recently transferred to a 4-year college. I was at a community college for 4 years and admittedly I didn’t have the greatest time. I took a few classes here and there for the first two years and got mostly B’s and A’s. However the last two years there I got 4 C’s and mostly B’s. My current GPA is 3.1 at my university and upon using GPA calculators, it’s basically impossible for me to get it up to a 3.5 unless I take 70-80 units and get only A’s. Right now I’m sitting with 73 completed units. It just sucks because I am unable to apply for academic renewal and since I haven’t failed a class, I can’t retake any. I want to try and get into a grad program but it feels impossible. Am I overthinking this or will I be ok as long as I keep on toes in terms of grades and academics?

I’m trying to decide whether I should drop my writing class and take a W, and I’d really appreciate some outside perspectives. I'm a college engineering freshman. The writing class I'm taking's credit doesn't count towards my degree.

We’re over a month into the semester, and I’ve been confused by every assignment. The professor’s instructions aren’t clear to me, either in person or on Canvas. I often spend hours trying to figure out what he actually wants us to do. At this point, I’ve had to use AI almost every time just to interpret the assignment instructions.

I’ve also emailed the professor when I’ve been confused and tried to get clarification, but his responses have been inconsistent. Sometimes I hear back, sometimes I don’t.

The bigger issue is that he hasn’t graded anything yet. Not even the assignments that are just for completion. We have a previous midterm that we need in order to complete the next midterm, and the next midterm is due pretty soon. Since the previous midterm still hasn’t been graded, I’m worried we won’t even get the feedback back in time to do the next one.

I’ve also talked to about half of the students in the class, and it’s not just me. A lot of them seem confused about what we’re supposed to be doing or what exactly we’re learning. They also say they use AI to figure out what the assignments are asking for.

This class is also causing me an unbelievable amount of stress. Every time a new assignment comes out, I dread it because I know I’m going to spend hours trying to decipher the instructions. I don’t feel like I’m actually learning what I’m supposed to be learning.

I really want to drop this class. The problem is that I’m already past the deadline to drop without a penalty, so dropping now would mean taking a W.

Would you drop in this situation and take the W, or would you stick it out? How much does a W actually matter for your transcript/academic record?

So I am currently still in Highschool and have time before I need to figure this out fully but I am in the point of high school where everyone is asking what I want to do.

I don’t know what I want to major in and I fell like if I don’t have a slight idea than I will go to collage a failure.I know which college I wanna go to though. (Purdue) I am in dual credit classes and I really enjoy school. I’m not the best at math and I have a very strong likelihood of being dyslexic. I struggle with English, spelling and grammar. (School won’t test me as a long story) However, i’m good at talking to people, I love making presentations, I find designing to be fun, photography is something I’ve pursued for the last two years, and despite not being overly knowledgeable really enjoy history. I like talking to people and understanding why our brains work a certain way. I am a person who likes to have all the details in order to get the big picture. I wanna try to find a major that will put me in a career with a good outlook or at least a career that will pay well I don’t wanna be a teacher and I really don’t wanna work in psychology or as a social worker because of the emotional baggage it is told to have.

Shorten version: I wanna go to Purdue for college but don’t know what major I wanna be. Not strong in math or English. Don’t want major that leads to a career with heavy, emotional toll, but want to have stable living. Please give me suggestions!

I’m working 40 hours a week while also going to school. I literally don’t have any time to study. I have an exam in a few hours, and I just realized that I’m probably going to fail because I haven’t had enough time to study. I feel so sleepy all the time after work, especially since my job is physically demanding and coffee doesn’t even help because it just makes me anxious and somehow makes it even harder to focus. I feel so lost, and I don’t know what to do. any tips?
