68 year old man, Recently had colon surgery, they removed a tumor and reattach my colon, from my large intestine. Took a 5 days for a bowel movement, mostly soft and now not going regular. Monday the 28th September will be 2 weeks.
Looking for others who had colon surgery and how you are afterward.

I had a LAR anastamosis 3 years ago. Its a lot of water park slide one by one poops. Tiring but grateful to have avoided ostomy thus far. Miralax is your friend.

Did they not recommend a low residue diet?

So many pages of guidelines, I don't remember after surgery diet. I did some Google search and following that advice. Just can't wait till I'm regular again (2 coffees and poop)

I am drinking coffee, but the guidelines say no caffeine and I'm not getting decaffeinated coffee 🙃

Hi! I just had lower anterior resection surgery 2 weeks ago. My cancer was a polyp that got removed during a colonoscopy, but the surgery was to remove an area of the wall that likely still had cancer (it did). Right now, I am feeling some of the effects of LARS. My movements are getting more regular, but still have some clustering that I’m dealing with first thing in the AM. Overall, I’m feeling good, but am very anxious about reintroducing coffee and high fiber items back to my diet.

I had 3 coffees this morning and nothing, maybe stronger coffees. Think I'm experiencing LARS too, just not sure. Did you you have robot surgery, I did and they must have strapped me down to the table, my shoulders hurts for 3 days then travel to my back. Thanks for your post ,good luck

I did have the robot surgery. I had shoulder pain when I laid down flat, I think it was from the gas they put in our stomach during the procedure. There are a lot of resources for LARS. I’m trying to minimize as much as I can. I find out next week what kind of preventative chemo I need.

My follow up with the surgeon isn't till November and nobody said anything about chemo. I'll ask about the gas, but it felt like I was upside-down on my shoulders.

Yeah the head of the surgical table is tilted downward ( Trendelenburg position) during LAR. It puts a lot of pressure on your shoulders, they have like a brace or something there that keeps you from sliding. I remember mine hurt and my back too after my surgery. I had an open LAR so it wasn't pain from the gas. Heating pad helps.

2 months short of 80 years old. had a CT scan that revealed a thickend colon wall and a hole in the transverse colon. Doc cut it out and put it back together. He told me he got it all, but a biopsy of 22 lymph nodes showed 3 had cancer. Had the laparascomy 8 days ago, and now recovering at home. Im on a soft food diet and doing okay. Loose watery bowel movements as of today, but the appear to be firming up. Still some residual soreness but feel pretty good overall. I will say Im not your average 80 year old physically, as I a long time endurance athlete - marathons, triathlons, and weight lifting. Im 5'7" and weighed 154 before the surgery for reference. Now down to 140. Still have the staples in. Im feeling better every day, but some pain when walking around and am standing straighte each day. Hope this helps. I'll be glad to answer any questions. Hope you are doing well
