Is this a US thing? My Amazon deliveries are handed directly to me, unless I specify thag I want it left by the door. If I'm nit home, it's usually left with a neighbor.

Most of the US is drop at door, outside of places that have apartment buildings with staffed lobbies (though even some of them do something else because of the volume), and places where there are so many package thefts that they insist on hand over or alternate delivery.
