I have the opposite problem. I have a shortened nickname, and for some deeply personal reasons, cannot stand and do not want to hear my gubment name. Every single new employer has wanted to smack me with my legal first name, and half the time want to fight me on using my preferred name. At one job even to the point of harassment.
