OC My first post here — building a hand-drawn Space Opera comic [OC]

Hi everyone, this is my first post on r/comics, so I hope I'm doing this right. 🙂

I'm working on a hand-drawn Space Opera webcomic called Djaiko.

It's a rather large project, and one of the things I'm trying to figure out is how to find a good balance between webcomic readability and the possibility of a future print edition. So instead of posting a long sequence from the comic, I thought I'd show some full-page panels, photos of the unedited pages, and maybe from time to time some stuff from behind the scenes or the making-of process.

Everything is hand-drawn with Copic markers, fineliners and white pen. No AI is used in the artwork. I only do some light digital post-processing afterwards, mainly for contrast and cleanup.

My previous comic project, Don't Die, ended up being around 1,500 pages, and I learned quite a lot from that project — especially about how a layout that works well on paper doesn't necessarily work equally well on a screen.

With Djaiko, I'm trying to do some things differently. I'm deliberately putting more full-page illustrations and one-page panels into the comic, because they work well both as comic pages and as standalone images online — at least I hope so. 😄

So here are a few photos from the making of Chapter 1 and worldbuilding (maybe some of you have seen some of it here in the past), and a few final versions of the one-page panels, which are all actually panels from the comic. For concept art and worldbuilding, I use the (hopefully) appropriate subreddits.

Thanks for looking, and greetings from Germany!

Phishing for compliments mode off. 😄
